I've seen your work, very good stuff. I've also built a number of award-winning models and now build for fun. I am happy with how it looks now.

Thanks for the info. The method I use is also quick, easy and a cinch to touch up. I spent 15 minutes doing all the trim and panel lines.

Doing another simple OOB build. Wonderful kit, great detail. I actually had TWO of these a long time ago, GTB and a GTS, started working on them side-by-side. A couple moves and some storage did them in. Now, taking advantage of COVID time to get it done. First pics show my favorite method for doing deep body and panel lines. paint them in, polish them out. gives a nice crisp line without hours of masking. Color is Testors turn signal amber, with sand and tan interior.

suburban and camper

Really nice work on the truck. Look forward to seeing the camper progress. This should be in Trucks:Under Glass though. -
Thanks all for the compliments. I was going to paint the coves, but after doing the metallic grey, I couldn't bring myself to cover over it. It does clean up the design. Tail lights are the originals, sanded down smooth, covered with BMF then a heavy coat of Tamiya clear red.

Got this one finished today. A few touch up and details, but good for now. Concept was to do one like the 1:1 scale kits to make a C5 look like a C1, but without that terrible body stretch they do. In my opinion, the stretch ruins the lines of the car. So, I built up both chassis, determines how much to cut from the C5, and stuffed it in. I then cut down the C5 seatbacks, dash and door panels to fit. I did have a time with paint. I usually have no trouble with automotive primer and auto touch-up paint. On this one, it just would not stick. 4th time came out okay. I did a few small custom items. like the tail lights, sanded smooth. Was a fun build.

Nice work! I like the sweat on the green part, makes for something different.

DANG, that looks Sweeeet!

https://imgur.com/a/Gp4mdpU Completed my Pagani Huayra today. Incredible kit to build. Only problem came at final assembly, where there were more parts than space. I opted to not cut into anything so I can remove the panels. I think the ideal build would be to have two, side by side. One done with all panels open, the other with them closed. Only non-box stock thing I did was my favorite railroad model screen for the front and rear openings, allows for a greater view of the stuff behind. My favorite part of models is usually the paint job. Not here, loved how many parts made up the dashboard and when it's together it looks incredible!

My C6 1960 Vette project is stalled, need paint, thinking about a trip to auto zone. In the mean time, worked on getting this PITA done. TWICE I painted it black, going 1983 HO route. TWICE I had to strip it down. It's sat for a while and I decided now is the time. Opened the grill, you can see through, just hard to get a good pic. I did aluminum tubing for exhaust tips, otherwise, straight up build. In a couple weeks I'll touch up spots and give it a waxing.

1967 GTO Pro Street - Self Isolation build
carl63_99 replied to carl63_99's topic in WIP: Model Cars
A technique I use for projects with substitute dashes is to build a tab to mount the dash under the area in front of the windshield. As shown, this allows me to mount the dash tight against the inside of the windshield and adjust for a proper fit. -

I would have liked to. Problem was the Poncho engine was a POS. -
It's the 365 GT/4 BB, predecessor to the 512 BB. The kit is actually one of those Japanese motorized toys, but so well done that it makes a nice slammer.

Not sure of the brand, I have a little paint bottle that I stuffed some in a long time ago and still have some left. Whatever brand, make sure it's 100% pure carnuba wax. All other types, i.e. Turtle Wax, work too much like polishing compound and slowly eat away at the paint.

Totally worth it!

Boredom got to me and I decided to clean up part of my collection. These models sit out on display in my home-office and have gotten quite dusty. I also note I've lost more than a few small parts. So here's what I spent most of today on. Enjoy!

The 1:1 scale builds only look okay in my opinion. They do stretch the body to fit the chassis, which changes the balance of the design. The body is the Revell '60 and the rest of the parts are also Revell, which the kit I'm using was already built and I had to tear it down to use it.

The goal, fit C6 chassis and interior under a C1 1960 body with as little body modification as possible. I saw one of those kit cars where a modern chassis was stuffed under and early model Vette. Frankly, it looked horrible. The body was stretched at the doors to fit the longer chassis. It ruined the classic looks of the car. So I'm taking it the other way. I painted it once, but had issues with it flaking off the body, hood shows the grey color I'm going with. Red Interior and white cove will finish this out.

Body: MPC GTO Chassis: AMT Pro-Street Chevelle Color: Blue metallic with Orange pearl Mods: Railroad screen for front grill, Headlights drilled out, clear lenses installed, parts bin blower and intake, Alclad II window trim, gauges drilled and filled with Hasagawa 328 Ferrari gauges, Solder exhaust, aluminum tube for exhaust tips. Far from perfect, but building to keep from going crazy on isolation. Front grill and engine details hot-melt glued in so I can work on better fit later.

1967 GTO Pro Street - Self Isolation build
carl63_99 replied to carl63_99's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Rich, as I am ditching everything but the body, trim and window piece, I'd have to say THESE parts fit good. The original engine, chassis and interior; not even saving them. -

So we all know what a POS the original kit is. Case in point, chrome. I stripped the grill of chrome, cut off the back and replaced with railroad modeling screen (one of my FAV mods). I cut the "GTO" script off the extra grill inserts from the kit, BMF'ed it added black wash, and superglued it on. I'm currently thinking I'm not going to put the turn signals back on, looks cleaner. For these old kits that have ugly chrome passing for headlights, I take a drill bit and grind them back to buckets. some polishing before paint and new clear lenses make them look very real. Alclad II did the rechroming duties. -

An example of the work in progress. I like to Bare Metal Foil emblems after primer. Check the first pic of the driver's side and see chrome on the "GTO" emblem. Then, when I polish the paint off, they really pop. It's taking longer and more work than usual to get this paint smooth. Probably a couple more days of work on the paint.
