1977 Olds Cutlass from 3D print from Too Many Projects
carl63_99 replied to carl63_99's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Doing the putty work, getting the back-end sorted out. Nice to see the roofline is good, won't have too much trouble getting that finished. I set the wing in place from the '69 H/O but don't like it, not going to use it. Besides having some bracing underneath, I'm using JB weld under the cut area to give it some strength. So far I'm liking how it looks. -

I'm considering the '83, having built one. Looking at other options also. tons of stuff in my parts bins. -

A little more work on the H/O nose. headlight area is very close. I now need to decide where I'm going to source the headlight buckets from before I do the final sanding. This way I have room to work with when fitting the new buckets in. I also have a tentative plan to use plastic playing cards for the grills in the H/O. That work is a ways off. On the standard Cutlass, most everything is going together, so no body mods there, just cleaning up. The 74 interior fits pretty nice, although the tuck and roll pattern goes the wrong way. gonna be a bit of work there and on the door detail. -

Using all my free time to get the rough look done. ground down the nose to get the shape. Will cut out headlight openings next. Also got the side window insert set and figured exact placement of the fastback roof section. -

I got a '74 promo in today, won it on Ebay. A bit of measuring, lots of cutting and the rear section of the roof almost fits. I have more roughing in to do and will have to think about the T tops. Cutting them out might leave the roof too weak. -

Finally finished a rental make-ready and vacation. Getting time to work on this again. After several different medium, I found these square nail sanders that take down the cross-hatch pattern perfectly. they even make a scratching sound like running a nail over jeans, which is gone when the pattern is sanded off. I'll wash and prime in a few days. -

Probably gonna get a 75 Johan kit and swap it in. -

Yes, and that is a rather pricey kit. Not that I'm in cheap at this point. Still working on gathering parts and making design decisions. I did figure out my inspiration for the second kit. 1976 Hurst Olds Proposal car. I'm thinking pearl white instead of standard white. but this should be a real looker when done. -
I got this 3D printed model of the 1977 Cutlass from Too Many Project a short time ago. Started working on it tonight. BEAUTIFUL 3D printing! My 1:1 scale was almost exactly like the one pictured, aside from red stripes on mine. Gonna be slow progress, but I'm looking forward to this one! 1969 442 Chassis and interior for test purposes. Probably going with that and major modifications.

That is a nice kit. I spent some time getting the hood to set in perfectly. It was good for a number of years, but now it's not quite lining up.
-
You didn't primer. To get rid of the lines, i.e. paint pulling away from the panel lines and edges, you need to wash, prime and sand the body down. I do like the color.
-
After several iterations of sanding and filling, I shot the silver basecoat on. Next will be the green nail polish, but I need to hit the store for supplies (i.e. Lacquer thinner) first.

I got a '77 when I was in the Air Force, LOVED that car. How can I get one of these? Or maybe two, yes two?

Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!

Things always change. Case in point, nail polish sitting next to my GT500 Pinto. Daughter saw this color and said I HAD to go with it. Silver stripes is the plan. I also narrowed the front and rear bumpers, and got the front spoiler mounted. Working on a rear spoiler, the kit one doesn't work quite right. -
One of the big accidents reported was a full-size pickup slamming into the back of the Pinto at 65 MPH. I honestly don't think many cars of that time would have fared well. I think at least part of it all was sensationalist news.

This engine is going to be a tight fit! and with all that horsepower, a squirrely one to drive too! I cut 4mm off the bottom of the inner fenderwells to make them fit, cut down shocks and dropped the motor mounts about 1mm so everything goes in.

Revell 2010 Mustang GT 500.

Got the chassis sitting right where I want. Engine will fit and the hood will close. I'm going to trim down those awful bumpers, paint them body color, and do cutouts to fit the exhaust tips.

I didn't do anything on the backup lights this time. Often I will build up a couple layers of clear or white glue to give them some depth. The other option is to open them up and put lenses in. -
Next up I'm doing this Pinto. Going with as many parts as I can from the Revell GT 500 2010 model. Already cut the chassis to fit, looks like the motor drops in fine and lines up. I still have a LOT more cutting to do, but I think it's gonna work. Color, even though I'm tired of red, will be a Coke theme mixed with the double stripes of the GT 500.

Calling this beauty about 99% done. Fairly easy build, but the chassis warped again after I started final construction. I included a pic of the tail light assembly to show how to cover it with Bare Metal Foil. That makes light reflect back out and give a better look than the dark look with nothing behind the lights. This color really highlights the sleek lines.

I really like the Molotow chrome paint pens. It took me about ten minutes to do the interior chrome trim. I flocked the bottom part of the door to be carpet, need another spray of paint to color it. -
When DuPont Chrome Illusion paint first came out, a friend got me some and I picked up this Ferrari to test it on. Paint job came out so good, I went ahead and finished the model. Although I skipped the interior as it didn't really have much in that regard. First pick shows that. Well, I messed up a 512BB and decided its interior was going in the 365. I also did aluminum tube for the exhaust and added some screen. Now she's back on the shelf.
