1967 GTO Pro Street - Self Isolation build
carl63_99 replied to carl63_99's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Rich, as I am ditching everything but the body, trim and window piece, I'd have to say THESE parts fit good. The original engine, chassis and interior; not even saving them. -
1967 GTO Pro Street - Self Isolation build

So we all know what a POS the original kit is. Case in point, chrome. I stripped the grill of chrome, cut off the back and replaced with railroad modeling screen (one of my FAV mods). I cut the "GTO" script off the extra grill inserts from the kit, BMF'ed it added black wash, and superglued it on. I'm currently thinking I'm not going to put the turn signals back on, looks cleaner. For these old kits that have ugly chrome passing for headlights, I take a drill bit and grind them back to buckets. some polishing before paint and new clear lenses make them look very real. Alclad II did the rechroming duties. -

An example of the work in progress. I like to Bare Metal Foil emblems after primer. Check the first pic of the driver's side and see chrome on the "GTO" emblem. Then, when I polish the paint off, they really pop. It's taking longer and more work than usual to get this paint smooth. Probably a couple more days of work on the paint. -

Work on the dash. Using gauge decals from the Hasagawa Ferrari 328. Pedals also came from the Chevelle kit, as the GTO ones sucked. -

The Chevelle kit is the AMT one, box shows in pic #1. The two go together pretty nice. I had to add a bit to the rear of the chassis to match up with the GTO body. The huge tabs in the back of the GTO body make for perfect alignment of the chassis. A builder could cut down the firewall to get the body over the chassis better, but for now I'm leaving it alone as it gives the hood something to rest on. -

Used the gauge decals from a Hasagawa 328. Hard to see in the pic, but you can see them when assembled. -

Not the Teal that I wanted, as I couldn't get the blue and yellow I wanted to mix. But I found a blue metallic and pearl orange, mixed them and got this. It'll work! -

I like the look of the all-chrome, no flat color on the spokes. I also have used American Racing type wheels on a few projects. I found my Vallejo black wash and did the wheel hubs. Result posted. Now to try and leave this model alone for a few years. It is 23 years old, finished in 1997. Maybe next time I disassemble it completely and redo the interior and drop a Vipe V10 in... Maybe...

I built this Monogram 1/24 440 Six pack back in 1997. Probably about 10 years ago I put new tires on it, that would be pic A. Two years ago, got these awesome wheels and tires from the Testors Daytona and put them on, pic B. One of the wheels fell off yesterday and I kinda went a little crazy. I dropped both front and rear axles about 2 mm so it wouldn't ride so high. After a waxing, she's going back on the shelf.

Looks very nice, where did that engine come from?

Very nice and clean, excellent paint job. Do you watch "Bitchin Rides?" What they pick on Nick about? The headlights are not mounted correctly, which does stand out on an otherwise awesome job.

Nice clean build. Tail lights are switched, making them upside down.

I like how it's looking. Currently working on the LP700-4 Roadster. I didn't like the way all the vents looked on the front and rear, so I am replacing them with railroad modeling screen that I get from my LHS. Following this while I work on mine. My progress is slow so I tend to not do build threads much.

Too bad, as nice and the paint and polish look, you can see the mold line going right down the fender peaks over the whole length of the car.

As I just picked one up last week at the San Antonio show, will have to watch this thread closely, learn from your mistakes! ;-)

Nice, but isn't that a 1969 Camaro?

I remember when the Monster Miata came out, 1:1 scale. They smoked the tires like crazy. It'll be interesting to watch this build.

Revell Ferrari 458 + 50 Shades of Gray Italian Style
carl63_99 replied to Kmb0319's topic in Model Cars
Looks nice, good color; and it's not red! Idea for plate, think about it, "RRRR EE" -
At 99% complete, I present my LaFerrari from Revell. Throughout the build the paint gave me trouble, tearing off in sheets once prompted a respray; then spots which left me a bunch of touchup. I used decanted auto paint, as I have several times before, not sure what went wrong. The model went together nicely on multiple test fits, from bare plastic, to a test a few hours before the final assembly and all went fine. Final assembly did NOT go easy though. I still have a few places that need to be tacked down. On the plus side, I love using railroad screen, stuff looks much better than the clear pieces and decals provided. I bare-metal foiled the "Ferrari" scripts on the intake, but you can barely see them with the engine tucked under there. But, hey, I now have all the Ferrari supercars from the 288 GTO through this one. With my builds I usually set them aside a few weeks, then go back and fix all those things that a clear mind can see. Enjoy!

I won a Lincoln Mint '69 Daytona in a raffle at the San Antonio Modelfiesta. No interest in building a diecast, but the 5-spokes and white-letter tires were awesome. So, I decided it was time to update the shoes on my '69 Super Bee. After that, I opted to upgrade the exhaust with polished aluminum and give it a nice waxing. Still looks nice for being painted 20 years ago.
