  1. The wide 5 was also used til '42 on various 3/4ton trucks in a variety of sizes different from the common '37-9' setup. (ford data says till '47..but Ive never seen them..)Ive seen 16x4's,5's 7's... There was also special "high clearance" wide fives made for folks living in bad areas (ruts mud etc). These are 18's and over the counter by ford. There was a 15 inch wide five mad for Marmon Harrington 4x4's in the 40's but those are pretty rare.
  2. Those are widened Ford wheels. The rims themselves look 17inch..almost stepped to fit the smaller centers., least on the front they do. Factory ford wheels came in 16 inch for a fact, I think another size too, might just be getting mixed up with the big wire wheels though. They wide fives came on 1936-39 (i think..some 40's also). The Revell 37 ford wheels are wide fives, they just have the hubcap covering all the bolts and hub. Came on cars and trucks. the 3/4 ton trucks had a wider rear tires..somewhere around 7 inches! Passenger cars had 4 inch I believe.
  3. Actually..Wareham crossing is the michaels that had the 6 inch toppers! I love that plaza, always liked the layout.
  4. Michaels craft stores has these fake grass clay pot toppers. they come in 4 inch and 6 inch versions 3 dollars for the 6 inch, 2 dollars for the 4 inch. By doing some research, it seems these have been out since September 2008. I wish I read this sooner, But Il be checking my michaels craft shop for them! Thankfully there are two stores near me..possibly a 3rd. so I bought 3, to try them out. Here is some photos to see the size compared to 1/25 scale. These were only 1.99 each! These are synthetic grass fibers, nothing here is real. Some airbrushed colors will make these look even better. There is a fake dirt backside, cut these open and you get a thin sheet of grass fibers. Il update you guys when I do this.
  5. Il see what I can do
  6. Thanks so much guys Hey Luke, these are Plastruct 1/24 G scale "rough brick" 2pc per pack -item number 91612 I paid 8 bucks, not bad, considering how easy it is to create a simple life token for pictures! Mike, I just realized you are in mass, I am too! Im over down south, in new bedford. Plenty of brick buildings here to sparked inspiration since Ive been little. Sadly alot are being torn down, but most that are worth keeping have been preserved down here.
  7. I stuck this on the only concrete I have, Il make another one.. Shot dark on purpose.
  8. Here is a before and after. I used craft acrylics, I first started with some airbrushed sienna's and umber colors, I then took dullcoat, put a few layers on, then let it dry. Then a thin white skim coat of white paint with a sponge, and applied it all over till the mortar was white, I let it dry up a bit then took some water on a paper towel and scrubbed off the remaining white on the high points, it did run through to the bare brick but this aged white from the paint and blended in.
  9. Thanks guys, appreciate it
  10. Then I sprayed on some rusty red oxide, followed by black again. One of the last things to do is the gas tank.
  11. Thanks guys! I'm modeling it as the old high school car as it sits now...not how it was driven to school its just a theme..nothing Im real serious about modeling Here is the chassis.. almost complete, just gotta exstend the shocks..and sand the tires, and paint my rally wheel backing plate. Sprayed it black..again, but added some texture. little bit of baking soda and table salt, I made a mixture a few years ago..just found it earlier..woohoo. Sprayed on some Tan..
  12. Thanks !
  13. Hmmm Ok then. Using a stiff piece of foam, I dry brushed some umber and sienna's along the fender and rockers for some character. Used some wrought Iron paint as burnout rubber on the rear quarters. Got alot of touch ups to do when it comes time to mounting the body permanently. It is a very tight squeeze getting the chassis on the body.
  14. Never said it was a truck cab either. Should make for a fun build!
  15. Added the green, Looks a little bright, but I will tone it down with some sun burn fades, I did what you did V on the dash, Il paint the pad black also, with some white underneith for a subtle sun burn fade. It isnt as bright in person. Got part of the chassis done, Used Burnt sienna over the black, then red oxide, followed by black again to get the shadows back. I did this at low pressure, so it speckled all over. Kinda like the "spider webbing" with lacquer
  16. Hey Gary, its a 28-29 touring car back, grafted on.
  17. Using Revells 1969 nova. Glued down the blocks for the rear leafs to get the "rake". Il use the traction bars also. It's built like.. a high schoolers car in the 80s I modified the rally wheels from the 72 nova from AMT. I sanded the huge dish in front of the wheels, stock wheels are not like that Shooting for the faded paint rather than hard chips, warm dry climate stuff. Airbrushed with acrylics, thinned with alcohol. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  18. Awesome gary! I love it.. I did a little hot rod out of one..
  19. The wire bit is to harsh, When I was polishing the metal wheels in the testors HSO kit, I used the cotton wheels and felt pointed pads.
  20. I remember hearing about that Ed, how are the willy's coming along? You using jeep engines for the 4cyl?(just guessing)
  21. I totally agree, that will be added once I touch up a spot, thanks for the extra pair of eyes!
  22. Thank's foxer. Least someones interested
  23. ..hmm anyways I have the engine almost complete, man I love these engines. I used a wash of "folk art - artist pigments- raw sienna" for the valve covers. I did airbrush a light thin layer of black before hand. When that sienna dries..it has a nice pigment sheen to it..looks ###### real, like fresh rust or old rust on chrome. added a light layer of wash to the wheels.. I gotta touch up a lug nut..after noticing in the photos. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
