Revell 1962 Imperial Crown 4 door --restoration

Looks beautiful. I love Imperials. Very classy. -
Thank you, Steve.

It looks great. And you got the door to work. I’m impressed.

Looks great. I love the old “Street Is Neat” decal on the back. I remember MPC putting that slogan, in that round shaped form, on or in a lot of their kits back in the early 70’s.

Lovely Jags. All of them. Just added the Airfix 420 to my collection as of today. I’m thinking of going Tamiya Champagne Gold for mine.

What are the very best drag racing model kits of all time?
unclescott58 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Please don’t boo me for this one. I know it’s totally inaccurate. But, I love it strictly from a nostalgic point of view. And that is the early 70’s Revell, now Atlantis, Jungle Jim Camaro funny car. After the Mean Maverick, another “drag racing” car I love, it was the second funny car I ever built. And the first one in the common 1/25th scale. Again, is a great kit? Most say no. But, it will always be favorite of mine. And I’m glad I had a chance through Atlantis’ reissue to enjoy the kit again. -
Oh, I understand all of that. And I’m big fan of Chris for a lot of the reasons you listed. That’s why I tried to not be to harsh in my criticism about his building of Gurney’s Indy car. He did very good job on the model in general. But, he did say he was going to do some research on colors. Obviously like others of us out here, I’m sure he found little. So he did the best he could. And other than my questioning his choice of painting the engine blue. I think he did a great job. And choosing to paint a Ford engine blue is not a great crime. After all, that’s probably the color most people think of, right or wrong, when it comes to Ford motors. I will keep watching Chris/HPI guy’s videos on YouTube. I like his builds. I like his sense of humor. He has a very mid-west sense of humor. Which makes sense since he’s from right next door in Wisconsin. His humor, mainly reflected in his comments, remind of several of my male cousins for some reason? And that’s a good thing. In fact, being that he lives fairly close to us over here in Minnesota, I hope someday I’ll get a chance to meet him. Maybe he can to the NNL North sometime, here in Twin Cities. (How about it Chris?) There are several other in the MCCM (Model Car Club of Minnesota) who also enjoy his work, and I’m know would love to meet him too.

Nice build in the end. I’m glad to hear that the decals worked well. I am a little disappointed. He said he going to do some online research to get info for painting. So, I’m wondering where he got the idea that the engine should be paint blue? Engines painted Ford Blue really didn’t start until 1966. One of the restoration videos of the real car shows the engine apart. From what I could see, I did not see any blue paint on it. Other than that, Chris did his normal informative, and fun build. What it may lack in paint accuracy, he makes up in showing us how the kit goes together. And some things to watch out for in building the kit. Over all he did a good job.

I watching the video on my smart TV right now. He’s just started painting. I’ll be curious on his color choices.

What are the very best drag racing model kits of all time?
unclescott58 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh! I forgot. What should have been my all time favorite drag racing model, is AMT’s Cal Drag Combo Falcon Funny Car. With the Tim Boyd Racing and Writing decals used as the sponsor for the car. The only reason it did not make it as my favorite, is because the Tim Boyd Racing and Writing decals, and the Driver: Battlin’ Boyd decal will not show up well with the color I choose to paint my Falcon, Galaxie, and trailer. And that is with Tamiya’s TS-54, Light Metallic Blue. Which is really not a very light blue as you can see below. And too close to the color of the decals I mentioned above. Which you can also see below. Bummer! Now, before people start jumping on me. The above is all done tongue in cheek. Giving a fun little poke at Mr. Boyd, whom I have the greatest respect for. I did seriously debate painting the Falcon white, to use the “Boyd” decals. And it is a shame they would not show up on my Falcon in the color I choose paint it in. Not to embarrass Mr. Body, but it would have been fun to use them. -
Your Lotus Turbine Car looks great. I too have one in my stash that I need to build one day.

Tim, I have several of your books, including the one on Drag Racing Model Kits. Your books, your writing style, and your knowledge on model cars is second to none. And I can’t disagree with any of what you said in post here. I’m not the biggest drag racing guy. But, of the kits you mentioned above, my favorite is AMT’s old Double Dragster kit. It’s fun to build. With many fun variations. A classic kit in my view. -
Thank you for the info. By the way, if you see the thread I started on the 1/32 scale MPC 917, you’ll see my thoughts on Indycals decals. They are some of the nicest decals I’ve ever used. So far, I’m impressed with their stuff.
-
My Indycal decals came for this car in today’s mail. Using their decals on my AMT/Matchbox Porsche 917/10, I have no worries at all about using these on the MPC/Airfix 917.

The model looks great. I sure miss those big old Cadillacs. They sure had style.
-
If the photo above is what the kit looks like when done. I personally would not be pleased. The thing looks awful. The proportions are way off. I hope yours looks better than that when you get it Mike.

The only Entex kits I’ve built so are their clear Mazda Wankel and Ford truck Turbine engines. The Wankel did not impress me. I found that I could not get it to work. The Ford Turbine was better. But, the way it was designed, I didn’t even try to get it to operated. I also have their 1/16 scale 1937 Packard Twelve coupe-roadster. It seems like a nice overall. What little work I’ve done on it so far. Which is build engine, and assemble part of the chassis. No electric motors to move things. Or light bulbs that need to light up in that one. But there are things like opening doors, which can or can not be tricky, depending on the kit. So how is the Entex ‘68 Corvette? Who knows? I’m looking forward to hearing from others who know about the kit. And your experience as you build the kit. As Alan above stated “It does look cool!”

The more I look at, and start test fitting parts. The more impressed I am with the MPC/Airfix 917. It’s not up to the quality or level of detail of my 1/24th scale Fujimi Porsche 917K kit. But, it’s not that bad. Nor is it as complicated as the Fujimi kit. The body especially, looks better than the box art would lead one to believe. I really am liking what I’m seeing in the MPC/Airfix 917.

All right! My MPC (Airfix) Porsche 917 arrived in today’s mail. I ordered it on Friday. It’s here on Monday. Can’t ask for quicker service than that. The kit came new, still wrapped in it’s original plastic. (I was so excited to see what was inside. I didn’t think of taking a picture before taking the plastic off.) Because of this everything in the box was pristine. Even after sitting in the box for nearly 50 years, the decals look okay. As you can see from the photos below. I’m pleased. Two other things. One photo shows a comparison with my almost finished AMT/Matchbox Porsche 917/10. Another photo shows another Porsche 917 I got in todays mail. Enjoy! (Though sorry about the poor quality for photos. I did the best I could with what I have.)

The Matchbox Tyrell, is that a Formula 1 car? And is that one with six wheels?

Thank you.
