Winter solstice (shortest day of the year)
unclescott58 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm always happy to see the days get longer again. The lack of sunlight is hard to take here in the normally froze north woods of Minnesnowta. But like Bill's situation, it's been pretty nice around here lately. Not as nice as where he lives in Pennsylvania. 30s, and even some 40s here. And with very little, to no snow on the ground right now. Which is great for this time of year. By the way. Happy Winter Solstice, and Merry Christmas to everybody out there. -
Any old Hubley metal builders out there?
unclescott58 replied to greg133's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yea, the missing parts would be an issue for me. I've thought several times about the Model A (4-door) Town Car. But, if I really wanted one, I'd search for a complete one on eBay. -

AMT '63 Corvette kit
unclescott58 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You are correct Snake. 1965 was the first year for disc brakes on Corvette. They were standard. With the delete option of the same drums as used on the 64's. So few 65's were ordered with the drums, they not offered again from '66 on. There is a lot of talk about what's wrong with AMT's old '63 Vette. And there maybe there is a lot wrong with it. But, it still one of my favorite kits. I've built several over years. I love the way they look when they are done. They may not be as correct as Revell's 63's. Another kit I love. But, the Revell Vette represents a Powerglide car with air conditioning and standard wheel covers. And it's a curbside. AMT's, represents a four-speed, fuelie with aluminum wheels. Both are cool. And it's though for me to pick one over the other. Powerglide and air. I like it. But, fuel injection and nostalgia work in favor of the old AMT. It's a toss up for me. I'm '63 Corvette crazy. I was very happy when Round 2 reissued AMT's old 1/32 scale '63 Vette. That leaves a bit to be desired. Now I'm waiting for Round 2 to reissue the old MPC 1/16 scale '63 Corvette. Which is my opinion another very nice kit of the '63. -
What non-auto model did you get today?

Yea, I thought the decals Glencoe included with their version were slick that way. The trouble is they were thin and ripped when I tired to use them. Luckily I found a verdor on eBay selling replicas of the original Strombecker decals. I built mine model just a year or two ago. And I'm disappointed to see that those decals have already started to yellow. Hopefully they will stop yellowing beyond this. -

I too have the good old Moon/Mars Liner Rocket kit above. With aftermarket decals to make back into the original Disney Moon Rocket version. This the kit was originally put out by Strombecker back in the 1950's. And still is one of the all time classic designs IMO. -

I love these kits. About 2 years ago the above kit was reissued by Lindberg in the typical Round 2 original style retro box. Naturally, I quickly bought and built one. Shortly there after they announced they were bringing back the other four kits in the series. I was very excited to hear this. But, something went wrong and they cancelled the project. Lack of sales on the Moon Ship? I dont know? Im still waiting and hoping that Round 2 changes their mind, and brings the above back. -

How much am I willing to pay for one? Somewhere around $40.00? Less if possible. I sure appreciate your willingness to look into this. Sorry to say, if it's the version regular land landing gear, I'd not be interested in that one. And sorry. I have no need at this time for a Tri-Pacer. Just a Cessna 180 on floats. -

By the way. I don't know if this is right place to bring this up, or not. But, I'm looking a copy of Monogram's Cessna 180 with floats. Hopefully complete and at a reasonable price. The last time I believe Revell/Monogram offered the Cessna 180 with floats, was in 1994. So it's not an easy kit to find. Can anybody out there help me? -

Sounds like fun. My local airport is a few miles away. Far enough away that the planes are still high enough to rarely grab ones attention. Several years ago I was riding with a friend, and we were going by an airport on the southwest side town (Flyingcloud, in Eden Prairie, MN). And there sat a Beech Starship! Was I surprised and excited. Not often does one get to see one of those. Sad to say, we didn't have the time to stop and get a closer look. -
Okay. After looking the info at Hobby Search, using the link shown in Joe's post above. The kit is set up to be built strictly as a low rider only. No stock wheels or tires are included. As such, it's not something I'll be looking at adding to my collection. By the way, several other "low rider" kits in my collection do have the option of building other variations. This one does not.

I remember these kits when they were out in the 80's. The interiors and chassis were generic. But, I'm wondering mainly about the wheels and tires in this recent release? In the photo of the open box above, the tires look like they may have a very short sidewall. Low rider style? I would be interested in this kit, if it can be built as a basically "stock" '66 Cady. I'm sure for licensing reasons, things like the nameplates and stock Cadillac emblems maybe missing. And that would be okay with me, as long as it looked stock otherwise.

Still my favorite cartoon. I too picked up, and built the above kit when it first came out. Being from Moebuis, it of course builds out perfect. -

Speaking of trains. About two months ago I bought and built one Monogram's HO locomotive kits. The Big Boy with Duluth, Missabe & Iron Ranger markings. True, the DM&IR never ran Big Boys. But, love the Big Boys. And the DM&IR. So it was a natural fit for me. The kit built up really nice. Even though these trains do not match up well with my running N scale stuff. I liked the one I build enough to consider buying others in the series, if I bump into them at the right price.
