rig building, what's the worst part for you?
kilrathy10 replied to tbill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I''m with you all the way on just about any chrome parts assembly......There is ALWAYS a scar......And, like you, Mark, I hate BMF....Never got the hang of using that stuff, either......So, stripping is the best option and repainting them with Krylon's Silver Foil Metallic....But that's not much fun, either..... But even after all the "terrible" things we have to go through to get a good build, you gotta admit, it's still VERY satisfying to get one done..... I know there's gotta be something to this hobby....Otherwise I wouldn't have so many of them laying around.....Built or otherwise..... -

That really looks good, Man....I'm with the other guys....I just let the fifth wheel float, most of the time.....I do have a couple where I added some stick pins at the pivot points to make it work, but I only did that for a couple of models.....Letting it float was much easier, so that method won out..... As far as the tanks go, I think James is right, but if you make it a daycab, it ain't gonna matter, really.... If you put some tread plate there, it'll look like you did it on purpose..... -

Good to see you're getting busy, Man....Sometimes that's all we need is a push in the right direction.... -
Dude....This is one Big Flippin' Score....Wow!!!! Still can't get over how much stuff is still there....Where you putting all this stuff.....My wife would try to kill me....

Most of this is done with .060 plastic, Gordon.....I just cut pieces out to whatever I think I need.....Since I'm more about the over all appearance of the finished model and not total accuracy, I can get away with just about anything.....Just like building a fence....If it looks right, it is..... The arch was, in effect, an afterthought....I totally intended to build it that way, but I forgot to draw my pattern as such....I ended up using another piece to form the arch on both frame rails.....

Thanks Guys.....I've been able to work pretty feverishly on the trailer since I discovered the missing parts that my new best buddy, Gordon, (scale trucker) is sending me....Thanks, again, Dude....I didn't want to post anything till I found the parts, but now..............I really appreciate you, Gordon.....You're making this one possible, for sure..... And, as suggested by Clayton, I will be leaving the roof spoiler off, as well as leaving the sleeper top and cab roof, removable....I've never built one of these without stretching it, before....Seems odd, but that's gonna make this one EASY, so to speak..... As I said, earlier, I'm using the rims and tires from the Freightliner Cabover kit.....I have to say, I really like these things......They're gonna look awesome.....

Got another one going, Boys....I've always wanted to do one of these.....The Pete 377 comes from Italeri, of course, and the flatbed is going to be of my own design....I see these things every day, everywhere, all over the place, but not in my collection....Time to change that.... I'm going to build the Pete straight from the box, this time with NO stretch, if you can believe that.....Well, that is, apart from a scratch built headache rack to be added, later....Orange will be the color, once again..... The trailer is scratched up from, mostly memory....Not to represent any particular brand, though....It might resemble something out there, but that will be pure coincidence.....There will be no real suspension detail on this one, as this is my first attempt, and I want to get the basic design down.....I'll try my hand at that on subsequent builds, perhaps.....Wheels and tires will come from a Freightliner kit that I had some leftover parts from.....Anyway, here we go with the pics..... Well, as soon as Photobucket stops screwin' around, I'll get some pics, anyway....

Great looking model....Very nice paint.....I'm wondering.....Never heard of adding Simple Green to Future....Does it thin it out or something?? That and how much do you cut it with....That is, what ratio do you mix them??? Oh, and you've used up your allotted amount of memory....Either delete some earlier posts or use a photo storage site for your uploads...Like http://photobucket.com or http://fotki.com .... -
