  1. pic of original sled... https://www.revell.com/model-kits/trucks/85-7224.html#.WfvkOeRe7IU mike
  2. Beautifully done! Very realistic mike
  3. That's interesting that your dad's truck had that air cleaner, Gary. I realize they started using them on the car 302s in '71 but figured they started using them on the trucks in '73. I've only seen the big '68-up style on the bumpside era trucks including my original '71 F100 302. The revell '68 Mustang has about the nicest one of those in scale. ...and these are 90 degree V8s, John mike
  4. Sorry for that implication but I was wondering if they were just simply fed the wrong info... and it does appear that it was a marketing issue. mike
  5. Just digging through the pile yesterday prompted me to wonder if anyone had ever made a list of the RC2 era's 'bait and switch' AMT cars, the kits that showed box art with wheels and decals that were definitely not included in the kit. Was this something that came about with the switch to overseas manufacturing? ...I recall a '71 Chevelle with non-matching wheels and this '74 GTX that came with modular and custom wheels and ugly green/blue decals... but no GTX decals or five spoke wheels. mike
  6. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones ... ordered a '68 cougar about six years ago through the big auction site and though it took a while, it got here okay. mike
  7. Any well stocked office supply store, michaels, staples etc. m
  8. Yes, the physical size of the 1:1 Mercury front and tailgate letters is the same from '65 - '68. Steve A over on the Spotlite forum made me up a high quality set a couple of years ago. I'll pull my '69 moeb truck off the shelf and use them once either I or someone else gets motivated to come up with an accurate grill In the meantime, I put some on this motormax diecast... now to get the rest of the truck up to snuff. Here's some more detail on the 67/68 Mercs... http://www.fordification.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35331 mike
  9. A look at the actual '76 and '77-'86 short flaresides... '76 -same box as 77-86 but with one year only flared tops 77-86 77-79 with round fenders, 80-86 with the squared off fenders... same box 53-72 box AMT F350 info...http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/80867-amts-ford-f350-pickups/ mike
  10. One of our local thrift stores now puts the nicest donated items, kits and diecasts in a showcase and runs two-week auctions where you enter your bid on a sheet corresponding with the number on the item. Sometimes there's good money made for them this way. mike
  11. In regards to that fragility, why not just attach a thin sheet of plastic behind the grill bars for strength? The modeller then has the choice of painting between the bars or gently sanding the backing off. mike
  12. Please don't allow minor details like 'pillow block bearings' to take time/resources away from the really important details like roof, window and sheet metal proportions... mike
  13. just makin' sure you're awake mike
  14. This thread gives a lot of great info, Bill ... especially for those interested in doing a canadian pontiac the chevs were 199119", the grand prix and catalina were 121" and the bonnys were 124" wheelbase. mike '65 GP vs '65 chev (pic by R Barron)
  15. Everyone clearcoats. Go your own way ...and maybe accent the spokes? mike
  16. Didn't Palmer also copy the AMT '70 Mustang? Probably one of their best kits. The moeb '65 Comet chassis/engine bay are modified AMT '66 Fairlane/Comet pieces. This also kind of brings up a point: if you know you might have to take flak for copying, why not make sure you're getting the most accurate pieces instead of 'good enough'. Why re-issue past mistakes? Kind of puts credibility at stake. mike
  17. If he branched out to Golden. he could have had this one in late june. Someone flopped it into the westbound lanes on the last of the curves east of town...
  18. Just thought I'd show a couple of interesting parts found in the mpc/amt '69 kit... a rally pac and an a/c bezel. These are obviously left over from earlier incarnations of the mpc mustang as they are definitely not factory issue on the '69, just the '65/'66. mike
  19. Bill, it seems the best 9" center sections available are in the new revell bronco and the 29/30 kits. mike ...as an aside, here's a view of most of the ones offered in various kits over the years...
  20. The 16" split rims on that white 4x4 indicate that it's actually an F250, Steve. ... and yes, the battery does seem a little oversized in the kit You certainly met your goal and did excellent work with what was there. mike
  21. I think the origin of those wheels was actually on the '62 Fairlane. The one I had in high school still had them on it when I bought it. mike
  22. Guess my eyes were deceiving me then... thought they might have improved the forward half of the diff mike
  23. I always look forward to your fantastic box-stock builds, Steve looks like moeb also improved the rear diff along with the front axle tooling mike
  24. Thanks! If anyone's got the roof parts from one of these they aren't intending to use, I'd be interested in making a deal for them mike
