With a recent model purchase came this interesting piece, a molded-in-clear uptop that definitely does not fit the convertible I received. Anyone have a clue to its' provenance? It has the framework molded to the bottom side and the sides where it meets the body are higher than the rear part under the window...

This comes up over and over... no one is forced to pay anything; they make the choice to tap that little blue box to bid or buy at whatever price. Seems to me supply and demand has something to do with it... and, as the man said, most of the action happens in the dying seconds mike

I don't remember Mr Emmons getting any credit at all from Neumann in the book. Learning the basics from this book, I guess I was a student of his without even knowing it Even though there are more accurate looking materials to use these days, the basics haven't changed. Glad I still have it... mike

A valid observation. CAD design is a great and useful tool in the right hands but the use of it in translating a subject to scale seems to have some instances of hit and miss. Following the temptation to go all out on some gee-whiz feature has sometimes resulted in other basic design elements being short-changed. mike

The important thing is that you're happy with it. You were going for a 'look' and I'd say you nailed it pretty well- and gave us some great inspiration on the way mike

Great inspiration Steve. While Moebius did a fairly decent job of reworking the surface features of the adopted '66 comet chassis, they left the newer style tunnel (made for accommodating big blocks with C6 transmissions) alone. Like you say, it builds up just fine and few will notice the things a real Ford nut will want to tweak. Dave, the front subframe/suspension is a common design to all these cars based on the falcon platform and the amt '67 mustang chassis seems to have the best detailed parts. A builder can go either way and still have a good looking model with this kit. mike

The amt '67 mustang and recent revell sbf's are a great source for engine parts and even the amt front suspension pieces can be adapted for poseable steering. If you're really motivated towards accuracy, think about using the more accurate shock towers from the monogram 65/66 mustang or even the trumpeter falcon engine bay. The 1:1 falcon/comet and mustang shock towers were pretty much the same size and the main reason they sit higher in the mustang engine bay is because the mustang structure was basically a sectioned falcon. mike
