  1. I don't have a 1:1 one at the moment but have owned a '64 sedan delivery and several mustangs. I do believe the amt body is truer to the prototype, especially in the contours and general shape. With a few tweaks, as Mike says, the trmptr body is definitely usable and affordable ones seem to be easier to find. Pattern making seems to be a semi-lost art, at least as far as the comparison between the models developed in the '50s and '60s by amt, johan and revell and current offerings goes. The old model bodies, taken from carved masters, seem to possess a certain 'soul' whereas the computer developed stuff comes across as sterile and just slightly 'off' in general. Just my two cents One thing they did capture on the trmptr falcon better than anyone else amazingly was the inner fenders and braces. mike
  2. That's looking pretty slick, JC. Great capture of the 'look'. Fwiw, here's a pic of the trumpeter and amt falcons together to help with massaging the trmptr body. A lot of improvement can be made by simply rounding the lower edges of the body to get rid of the slabsided look. Should have a 3/4 view here too somewhere...
  3. I'll get around to the mod eventually. A link to Mr Ellifritt's box modification tutorial is right here... http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Repstock/library/Ford%20pickup%20standard%20wheelbase%20bed?sort=6&page=1 The fb boys benefit from our wide open forum but keep their help to themselves. Doesn't give me the faintest desire to join up mike
  4. Wandered through there a couple of years ago... wow! Cool place. Always slow down on my way by to see if any 'new stock' shows up Swap meet coming up on the site in a month; hope to be there... mike
  5. That's really nice but if it's a closed group, how does that help the rest of us? I was given a number to text regarding this box but my queries have been ignored. mike
  6. This hood comes up regularly on the auction site; only gte part I know of...
  7. Apparently there is/was a facebook source but nothing yet in the real world. Been now, what, over two years since R2 brought the kit back? Another item in nevernever land, like an accurate pre-70 F100 grill mike
  8. Roush may be building some Windsor engines, but that one is definitely an FE mike
  9. Probably better to take your politics to another forum ... most of us come here to escape and relax I do agree on the g/s and never deal with those listings. mike
  10. Every time I'm in the area I try to stop and have a look Great swap meet every spring, too. They're not kidding about that being one of the most beautiful areas in BC, being in the Shuswap just north of Salmon Arm. mike
  11. Glad they didn't ... this one looks great! mike
  12. You're right, Chris. A survey of the big auction site shows the '65 had it too. Thanks
  13. With a recent model purchase came this interesting piece, a molded-in-clear uptop that definitely does not fit the convertible I received. Anyone have a clue to its' provenance? It has the framework molded to the bottom side and the sides where it meets the body are higher than the rear part under the window...
  14. This comes up over and over... no one is forced to pay anything; they make the choice to tap that little blue box to bid or buy at whatever price. Seems to me supply and demand has something to do with it... and, as the man said, most of the action happens in the dying seconds mike
  15. Need more of those build'n'bull get-togethers, so you can have some elbow room mike
  16. I don't remember Mr Emmons getting any credit at all from Neumann in the book. Learning the basics from this book, I guess I was a student of his without even knowing it Even though there are more accurate looking materials to use these days, the basics haven't changed. Glad I still have it... mike
  17. Wow! That's never happened before .... mike
  18. A valid observation. CAD design is a great and useful tool in the right hands but the use of it in translating a subject to scale seems to have some instances of hit and miss. Following the temptation to go all out on some gee-whiz feature has sometimes resulted in other basic design elements being short-changed. mike
  19. The important thing is that you're happy with it. You were going for a 'look' and I'd say you nailed it pretty well- and gave us some great inspiration on the way mike
  20. Here's a visual to go along with that... first pic shows blue reissue of orange crate, revell tudor, amt tudor, mpc keep on truckin'/truckin'on down delivery and the mpc switchers tudor. Last pic bodies L to R... MPC tudor/sedan delivery, AMT tudor, Revell tudor
  21. That's what it looks like. Find one nice lens and you're set. mike
  22. Here's what another guy (can-con) was doing for lights on his dodge trucks, using a clear resin called 'easy cast'. I've seen it at michaels.
  23. If you like Diplomats, this might make you wince....
  24. Great inspiration Steve. While Moebius did a fairly decent job of reworking the surface features of the adopted '66 comet chassis, they left the newer style tunnel (made for accommodating big blocks with C6 transmissions) alone. Like you say, it builds up just fine and few will notice the things a real Ford nut will want to tweak. Dave, the front subframe/suspension is a common design to all these cars based on the falcon platform and the amt '67 mustang chassis seems to have the best detailed parts. A builder can go either way and still have a good looking model with this kit. mike
  25. The amt '67 mustang and recent revell sbf's are a great source for engine parts and even the amt front suspension pieces can be adapted for poseable steering. If you're really motivated towards accuracy, think about using the more accurate shock towers from the monogram 65/66 mustang or even the trumpeter falcon engine bay. The 1:1 falcon/comet and mustang shock towers were pretty much the same size and the main reason they sit higher in the mustang engine bay is because the mustang structure was basically a sectioned falcon. mike
