What's The Best Way To Simulate Lug Nuts On A Wheel?
Mike replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think Charlie at Pro Tech has some nice stuff, but they are expensive like most PE/milled parts. He's a great guy to deal with also. http://www.protechmodelparts.com/ -
I FINALLY found the components to complete the display I've been wanting to do. I picked up a nice 3M document holder at Kmart back in a corner on Monday night and the mrs. got me some nice industrial strength velcro tonight to mount my vintage Car Craft magazine in a display with my Undertaker build.

One of my all time favorite rides. Superb work.

What Would You Like For Christmas?
Mike replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In no particular order - The Double Dragster for my TMH forum buddy Ken Chevy 454SS C1500 pickup (I think last produced in the early 90's) Buick 62 Electra hardtop (or retooled convertible) in a lowrider style kit -
What'd You Get For Christmas????
Mike replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's what my beloved wife and kids got me - And these are the kits I got in our TMH forum member Christmas Exchange -
That's easily the coolest Merc build I've seen in a long long time.
-
Show us the goodies Santa brought you!!! Here's what I bought myself - Catalina custom and Pennzoil Skyline and a solid document holder, for my vintage magazine, with mounts to complete my Undertaker display.

Now that's good! Happy Holiday's to all.

Questions About Taking Pics
Mike replied to Rudy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I usually set up on my card table with a large sheet of white construction paper that drapes down so there is not a seam in the background. I've got a high-watt light that's constant and a pair of smaller lights I set up closer to the subject for lighting. When taking pictures, I set my Sony to the "flourescent" light setting (in the MENU options) as this is the type of light I use mainly. I also turn on the MACRO function for fine details. Plus (depending on the angle) try to keep the center focus right so that the subject doesn't blur in the fore or background. I've posted a picture below that I've taken of one of my builds. -
I wish I could participate Bobby. I can't wait to see the results of sleep deprivation and paint fumes.

Any Christmas "snoopers" Here???
Mike replied to chris coffey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nope. Mine are in the trunk of my wife's car and don't want to ruin the surprise. -
Here's a couple from the Plastic on the Prairie contest I attended in Fargo, ND about a year-and-a-half ago. The pictures do not even do the GTO justice. The doors, seats, etc. all work and the engine bay and car as a whole has plenty of detail. The big story is the finish on the GTO is beyond compare - FLAWLESS and like a sheet of glass covered it. I've never seen anything close on the internet or any magazine as far as a finish goes. I wish I could remember the guy's name, but he was part of a club that came down from Canada. Great guys to chat with as well.

"Gluebomb"?????? It'd take me YEARS to even comprehend how you built one, much less all of them in a year. Pat yourself on the back.

Actually, the kit's been a blessing overall. The only problems I've run in to, and they're minor at that, are - -the front pan didn't quite line up so I bored out the holes slightly on the chassis to fix that -The hose running from the turbo to the radiator is a tight/awkward fit that's not friendly but easily managed -the exhaust from the engine needs to be slightly trimmed to accomidate the full exhaust assembly
-
Oh, this one's a gimme!
-
Well, here's where it sits until Revell gets me the replacement sprue missing from this kit (I HOPE since the kit's discontinued). Quick mock up to check things out fit-wise. Next to clear coat and get the black spoiler and window trim done. Thanks for following along.

Picked up an AMT 70 Super Bee. Gonna paint it purple and keep it stock just like the cover shot.

I'm eclectic. I listen to everything from Jazz to HIp-hop, Country to Thrash metal depending on my mood. I'll also throw on the local radio or turn on the TV since football season's here. If anything else, throw in CD's of new songs my band is learning and get a groove on.

I Got My First Builds As A Kid!!!
Mike replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't have any immediate plans to restore it, but if you happen upon them, drop me a line. Thank you. -
I Got My First Builds As A Kid!!!
Mike replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Congrats and tell me about it !!! I LOVE the original Transformers. I was a big GI Joe nut as a kid, and had things you mailed away your points for that weren't available in stores. Lost them all in a flood 10 years ago. I do plan on restoring that Datsun 4x4 for sure. The other's I haven't even thought about yet. LOL -
Yes it was actually. I got it started, and after losing complete interest, I sent it to a friend up in Canada who's big in to open wheel racing and he finished it.
-
OK, that's a great take on a not-so-attractive car. I may have to steal that idea and make one of my own.
-
They're Fujimi wheels that I traded a fellow modeler for. I've seen a very similar finish on a fellow builder's wheels on an F1 car that he did using Alclad II Chrome where you base gloss black, then mist the chrome/silver over the top.

Well this project has officially hit a huge brick wall. I got the interior done with the exception of the gear shift (easily fixed). BUT. My clear sprue is GONE. Not a part, the entire sprue with the windshields, lenses, EVERYTHING. I don't know if I misplaced it or if one of my kids got a hold of it in the basement and did something with it. GAH!!!
