Looks like SAE ditched their forum.
Mike replied to Phil Patterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That forum was good for about 1 year after I rediscovered the hobby. After that, the good regulars left because of the bone-headed idiots that can't act like adults. I haven't been there in three years. I still get the magazine though. -
The only LHS's around here are - Hobbytown USA - in town Grand Forks. John's a great guy and has a small store, but is more than happy to order anything Hobby Hut - Moorhead, MN where my friend Mark and I go for our club's monthly meatings Dave's Hobbies - Bismarck, ND where I was this past weekend and snagged these

My time comes after I'm done with the yard/house work and helping get the kids to bed. Usually I take a couple hours in the evening to "decompress", as my wife puts it, and it's me, the bench, my paints, an airbrush, and silence.

My little bounty from this past weekend at another LHS 280 miles away.

Great looking build Dave. I just bought this kit last week from the LHS.

Cool thread... I'm mainly a 1/64 collector of 60's Camaro's, Nissan Skylines, and BMW M3's. Here are some prize posessions from the lot aside from all of my 60's Camaro's - 1/43 BMW M3

So this all started when my 3 year old daughter claimed "I wan a oragh caw" while working on one of my own. I broke out the airbrush, she picked the colors, and my 5 year old son and I assembled it with a bit of help from little sister. The color is HOK Paggan Gold with Candy Tangerine over it. It's the Revell HotWheels snap kit and with some detail painting has GREAT potential.

It's finally done!! The Christmas present from my wife is complete. There were two sheets of decals with this kit which cover 80% of the body. Decals on top of decals, and decals. It's not perfect, as evident in the pictures, but it was a grand learning experience to say the least and a FANTASTIC kit. If you're looking for a solid challenge, try one of these kits. Don't forget the Micro Sol.

OK. Interior's complete, and I've entered the second round of decal hell and mounted the body to the chassis. Thus far it's been a tremendous learning experience in decal work. It's nowhere near a perfect job, but on a first-time effort, I'm pleased. The kit itself has had a single issue, and that was on final assembly when the rear bumper didn't want to allow a clean body-chassis assembly. After removing the bumper, everything fit well, and I added the bumper after the fact with no issues. Thank you for following along.

I've got a rolling chassis! Still a bit of touch up painting to do. It's starting to look like a race car!
-
Thank you for the comments guys. I got the engine done. Just need to add the axles and brakes then it's off to the chassis. This is a great kit thus far. Everything's fit beautifully. It's also refreshing to have a nice box-stock build.

Round 1 is done. WOO!HOO! Now I've got to wait for everything to dry good and seel them before I commence to the overlying set of decals. There are a couple small spots for me to touch up with paint, but I expected it. The air duct lips on the hood consist of 3 decals each (inside and outside combined) aside from the #18 and "t" decals in the center. Thank you for following along.

As I journey ever farther into decal hell, I've begun actually drinking the Micro Sol. It calms a person really. I've got most of the body decals on today. These next center hood decals are going to be a problem, but hey, I'm learning right? The front fender decals are still trying to lye down as you can see in the photos. If they're dry enough tomorrow, I'm going to try a slice and over-lay with the curvature to see if that helps. If you don't have patience, this is not a kit for you. Trust me.
-
Sorry, no extras. If I screw up, I'll be contacting Tamiya customer service. LOL That Audi looks SHARP. And yes, I have been patient.
-
Yes, with the exception being the rear deck lid and what will be the nose cone. Other than that, all the color on the sides is decals. I'm sure I'll be using a full bottle of micro sol on this one. LOL
-
Here's the kit - This is my first journey to decal hell and my friend is Micro Sol. I've never attempted anything this extensive with decals, but I've got to do it sometime. What I've gotten done so far is a combination of four decals. Three are combined for the bottom of the door/body portion.

Thank you all for the very kind compliments. Given the talent that's on this forum, it's very appreciated.

All done! A fun kit to build, and this is my first effort at opening a door. It was a mild success and would've been better had I thought out the door hinges better. Live and learn right? The wood panels and floor boards were all painted with various wood tones and washes. The body colors are Testors Acryl dark green pearl and white pearl nail polish. Thanks for looking. Now I think I need to build a beach diorama base for it.

Thank you for following along all. I'm nearing completion. It's cleared and needing to be polished out. I also started a bit of the BMF tonight. This is my first attempt at opening a door and it's a mild success. It opens, but with a bit of finessing because of the way I put the brackets in the door. Live and learn right?

Pat yourself on the back for a job well done! I've got the Tamiya Repsol bike to build yet.

Here's more progress. If I'd been thinking ahead, I would've run air lines to the bags from the compressor & tank. It's something for next time. Chassis and interior are complete now. I've got the rear door to paint and get mounted yet. This one's also beggin' for a bit of a surfboard beach diorama base as well. Thanks for following along.

Never sold anything at a garage sale. It wasn't a garage sale, but my dad knew a guy through work that was selling off his kits. I managed to get 15 kits for $5.00/each. Around here, there is no such bargain to be had at a garage sale.

I picked this one back out of the stash. I'd started it shortly after I got back in to building and realized I was a bit in over my head. Now that my skills have caught up, I've got it back on the bench. Colors are pearl white nail polish and Testors green pearl. The woodgrain is molded in and hand painted. I still have to put the grain on the lighter wood paneling.
