  1. Bare metal foil for trim and body parts. For larger items like rims, exhaust, engine parts, etc. Alclad II chrome through an airbrush. Here's a Cobra I recently finished. I used the Alclad II Chrome on the wheels and side exhaust.
  2. Tenax is an available glue. We sell Permatex items at our tool store, and they've got a variety of glues also.
  3. I hope those go into a regular stock status. I've got a few tuners that'd look nice with those wheels/rims. Thanks for Sharing!
  4. I fully agree with your decision and you are 110% in the right for doing what you did. It sounds like the father has no concience and is trying to make up for lack of something else. If the child didn't do the work, the child doesn't deserve the award, no matter how heart-breaking. The other option would've been to move the build to the table with the adult builds since the dad made it.
  5. Absolutely gorgeous. Your attention to detail is top notch.

    "Flammable"

I'm at an in-between stage of builds so to kill time... This started out as a Hotwheels. Stripped, painted, chromed the front end, wheels, bare metal foil for hte windshield frame, added flocking to the interior to simulate carpet, painted the interior, added plug wires, painted the engine parts, and heat-stained the headers for detail. I made the decals using Microsoft Word (no graphics program) and an image I saved off the internet with the Testors decal system.
  7. I like it. I love it. It's beggin' for a set of T/A racing decals though over that blue.
  8. Per request from others on another forum, I've created this tutorial. I apologize for the photo quality in advance. My camera's acting up for some reason. ON TO THE TOPIC AT HAND! WHAT YOU NEED: A wood base tone color like Testors Wood, Tamiya Flesh, or Tamiya Dessert Yellow. A shade of flat brown (I prefer Tamiya Nato Brown), Flat white is OPTIONAL for lighting up the Nato Brown if you wish. Lastly Clear Orange. For this tutorial, I'm using Testors Acryl Wood (my usual). Depending on what you're doing, you'll also need a couple brushes. Preferably one of which that's old, ratty, and the bristles are all shot. This works best for the darker grain later. For this example, I'm using three brushes. Step one: Paint the base color "wood" down. Do not worry about leaving or seeing brush strokes. You want these. It helps create a basis for the "wood" grain. Keep in mind, wood grain is random, but does have a pattern to it while you put the base coat on. Step two: Take a medium size brush (here preferably the ratty old brush) and using your brown, dry-brush along and with the bristle marks left behind from your base coat. Using harder/softer pressure will allow you more "grain" and sometimes leave random "knots" here/there. Step three: Take the smallest brush, and using a semi-dry brush, pick out the thicker grain and "knots" that have randomly appeared and only those areas. Step four (optional): put a coat of clear orange over the "wood" you've just painted (the piece on the right). This brings out finer detail as well as provides a natural looking luster/lacquer look to the finish. Below are examples of steps 1-3 Below is with step 4 included for a steering wheel
  9. Thanks for the info and extra shots Steve. I got one of each of the Rammunition and Raminator as well. I will certainly say that I had WAY more fun with this kit than I anticipated. The only time-consuming part was sanding the roll cage. And that wasn't that bad at all. If their new issues build as well as this one did, look out Revell. Tamiya may even get a run for its money.

    Shelby Cobra

Thank you for all of the kind words guys. They are appreciated.
  11. Superb workmanship Ismael. I've always liked this car, you've brought it to life.
  12. Here you go Dave. These are the only in=progress pics I have from when I built it.
  13. I was forunate enough to get the opportunity to build this one for Lindberg to display at the iHobby Expo in Chicago this year. I had a ton of fun building it. It's based on the same kits as the Raminator/Rammunition. I will say it's the best thing out of an American kit manufacturer in a long time that I've built. Very few issues (mostly the decals). The entire chassis/frame went together wonderfully. With a bit of finessing/aligning required, the roll cage halves/frame went together and fit very well without major issue. The potential for a full wire/detail etc. on this kit is there as well. The one major complaint is the sink-marks in the headers and a couple engine parts that required a bit of putty & sanding. Oh, if you don't have a Flexifile yet, you'll need one for the roll cage.

    Shelby Cobra

I was in a slump and the mrs. picked this one out for me to build. Nice little kit. I didn't know how I was going to paint it until I started researching the car. This is a build of an actual car that inspired me to replicate it. I made the decals on my computer using Microsoft Word (I don't have a graphics program), I also added photoetch parts from Protech and used Shabo transfers for the side-walls. I used Alclad II for the wheels, side pipes, and steering wheel to rework the chrome and clean up seams and am extremely pleased with the first time effort. Lastly, I used a new technique to simulate the "wood" steering wheel. Thanks for looking.
  15. I remember this'n. Great paint and graphics job Dan.
  16. GREAT looking build again as usual Dave. I've got the Studio 23 aftermarket decals to do mine. Did you use something else?

    1/43 diecast

Hey all. This started out life as a Hotwheels 1/43 rod. I stripped it and painted it etc. It's a gift for a friend on a diecast forum thus the "TDC" business on the doors. I'm mailing it out tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
  18. Thanks for sharing the pics Steve. I was fortunate enough to build one of the Weird-Oh's monster trucks for Ernie. Hands-down the best thing I've seen out of an American kit manufacturer in some time. With all the parts for the roll cage, it went together extremely well and the fit on everything was fantastic. The only real complaint I had was with the decals. I'm really geeked about the 1/64 slot car sets for some reason. LOL
  19. OK. MY WIFE'S THINKING I'VE COMPLETELY LOST IT AFTER THE HAPPY DANCE SHE JUST WITNESSED!!!!
  20. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE tell me that the AMT model T double kit, Double dragster, Dragula and Koach are being repopped!!!
  21. I've heard the name, seen the name, and seen the great work in pictures. He will be missed.
  22. I saw this during the morning new blurb. Apparently talks have taken a back seat until the economy settles down. I also remember seeing Dodge trying to off-load the Viper and GM was looking for a buyer to take the Hummer line a while back as well. This is a speculative rumor, but I've heard Dodge is considering dropping their truck line due to poor sales. Interestingly enough, Buick does very well in the Japanese market. The question is, if they DO merge, who's going to come out ahead?
  23. I've always loved this car. I was a generation or two to late to watch these races live in action though. Great work.
  24. I've always liked this one. I'm an off-road Ivan "Ironman" Stewart truck-race fanatic! I also wish that a kit would be done of the current baja trucks.
  25. Very cool! I don't think a set of Hallibrand wheels ever looked so good.
