Well Dave, do you want the short or the long version? Since you wanted details...... "Once upon a time....." It all started in 1978 when I attended a Classic Chevy Convention in Memphis. One night some friends and I went to a local movie theatre. They showed "Grease" and "Corvette Summer" We saw both. About a year later, "Corvette Summer" appeared on movie theatres in Sweden. I got the idea of building the car as a model. But the Corvette script in the taillight had me stumped. One night I was tinkering with a 1/8 scale '65 Vette, and found the rear trim/nameplate. It was the perfect size! I started with an AMT '76 Vette, then scratchbuilt the front and rear ends, hood scoop and fender flares. Front spoiler came from Monogram's "SS Corvette" as did the clear roof panel, cut in half and made into "Moon Roofs" Various kits supplied the remaining parts. The paint job was done using all Pactra paint; Gold base, Candy Pagan Gold, Candy Red, and of course clear coats. The masking was a bit of a nightmare! I used very very thin tape. Took me many hours.... I know it's not 100% perfect - if you want to be very picky..... the interior was covered in red and yellow crushed velvet, I painted it black..... That's basically the whole story. I got it finished just in time for the model contest at the annual Hot Rod Show 1980 here In Stockholm. I won 1st place Custom Model. And it has picked up a number of awards over the years. Brought it to the NNL in Toledo in '92. Jimmy Flintstone liked it, and wanted to make a resin copy of it. But how would it look after he was done with it??? I think not....

Thought I'd shown this one on a number of forums before, but here goes: it's my replica of the 'Vette from "Corvette Summer".

Chevy 396 and 454 externally similar?
Modellpularn replied to kurth's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe you could use the Revell 68-69 Vette kits as a parts source. And a little tip: the valve covers have seven bolts, if they are molded correctly. The side with three bolts go toward the intake manifold, and that's all you need to keep in mind. I used to have a '70 SS 454 El Camino, that I sold.... -
Andy, the black one looks very good! In fact, I like it better without the wheelcovers, looks meaner this way. Now you just need some bad ass dudes to fill the interior, or stand around it......smoking. Cool! The second one will be a cool one as well. Nice touch with the Buick headlights. Ohhh, I have to get this kit.....

Model King 75 Laguna stock car box art
Modellpularn replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Funny you should say that, I got the same idea about an hour ago while rummaging through all kinds of models! But my object is the reissued Chevelle Malibu "Saturday Night Thunder" -
Looks great, Tim! Sometimes it's those "quickie" jobs that turn out killer, like you don't feel any pressure to finish a model in time for a contest. I need to do something like that soon....

WIP: Rusty Wallace's "LAst call" 2005 Charger
Modellpularn replied to David Thibodeau's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Wow, talk about details!!! I'm also a Rusty fan, but I've built slot cars. Just wanted to show the latest, it was finished last year. I also started with the 2004 kit, but backdated it for the sleeker front end. Here's a pic of the finished car at our slot track. If you click my photobucket link, there's a sub-album: "Rusty Wallace Dodge" showing the construction. I'd just might show how it was done, in the slot section..... -
Looks cool! Two projects at the same time, eh? I happen to have an unbuilt one..... and no, it's NOT for sale! Keep up the good work so far.

Sure, I can take pics of the magazine. But the '59 Impala??? I built a candy blue w. white pearl top '58 with glass roof from the '56 Ford kit. Is that the one you mean? In that case, Thanks! Here's the pics:

Thanks for the comments guys! It's a nice, fast track. Glad you like it. So do we! -mr moto, you think it's far away? Nahh, just a 10 hour plane hop.... the track isn't too far away from the airport
-
Oh, it's cool allright!! You're right about building a "quickie" to finish something.... I started on a Monogram Beer Wagon some time ago....

big tub, getting ready to pull out of the garage one sunny day
Modellpularn replied to jbwelda's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey cool! I've got a resto object of the Big Tub myself. One of these days I'll try and get my ###### together, and rebuild it. I like the fuel injection setup.... -
That front end treatment looks just like a Merc that was built in the old Car Model magazine! It was in May'66. I got the mag. The model was painted metallic blue, but I like your's much better. That candy red looks perfect!! Drool....
-
Oh, you don't know half of it, and how right you are....Chromecop is one nutty modeler.... always has been, but he's a cool guy. But we've done some nutty stuff together....

Thank You for the info! I'll look into the possibility of finding one of those aforementioned kits....
-
I also have that kit, but what about an engine? Is there a transkit avaliable with a correct engine? Or how about a kitbashed engine, where to find one?? I just got interested in building this car for a CBP on our swedish model forum. I had started with the Ferrari Mythos, but it doesn't really give me the right vibes. Unlike the 330 P4.... Is that a sexy machine or what??? So, where can I find a suitable engine for this model?

The name of the color is Shadow Gray, that goes with Coral. Was used on the '55 Chevy. In 1970 GM used Shadow Gray again, as it was the color on a '70 El Camino SS454 I used to own. A car I really regret selling. Good luck with your projects! I also have a customized '59 Caddy that I started about 15 years ago. Just tinkered with a custom top.... Got the Alternomad recently. Was thinking of a scarlet candy body with a white top.
-
Looks great, Andy! Nice color too. I just happen to have a '75 Caprice that I have planned to build as a lowrider also. It's got a chassis swap that's almost too good to be true.... But I won't tell, yet....
-
Love the paint Andy! It's going to be a killer, as usual... You seem to like the Citroen colors, any particular reason, like work at a Citroen dealer...???
-
Cool stuff! The fuel injection will be wild! That's from the Custom Engine kit, isn't it? I have that as well... I have one that's also been built, and fell apart,..etc. Not complete. Traded it for some spare Lindberg '34 Ford p-u parts from a friend. Now that the Big T is out again, I bought two! One is for the buildup of the tub.
-
Thanks for your comments, guys! Trust me, it IS a '57 Olds, in styrene! Harry, I really like your photoshop tricks! In fact, I was thinking along the same lines you rendered. Maybe even do the flames in metalizer. Problem is, I don't have any of it left...se if I can find some, or just go with some new stuff. I also haven't painted the headlight bezels... will try to get some pics of it with bumpers.
-
You mean, they feel the same....
-
This one started out as a JO-HAN "promo kit" or whatever they were called. Anyway, it bothered me that the front fender "planes" had mold seams all over, so they had to go. Next up was the side trim. Painted Boyd's Grape Pearl, I'd like to have some flames or graphics to liven up the car, or?? Got paint masks from RPP Hobby via Darryl Gassaway. Bumpers have been painted a steel Metalizer, but maybe I should try Alclad instead? Or rechrome em'? What do you think...?
-
I was also inspired by that jacked up red '55, but I think it was more like July '75 when it was on the cover of Pop Rod. Here's mine, finished in '77.
-
Here are a couple of Monogram Chevelles that I have very little to do to get them finished. The grey one is painted with real GM Shadow Gray paint, left from my old '70 SS454 Camino, which I did some touchup on.
