  1. Wow, that kit is worth buying for the decals alone! I happened to have the original Funny Hugger II, but it was missing the original decals, so I sold it on ebay about a year ago. If you swap the front wheels for some narrow Halibrands with smaller tires, then you could be onto something...
  2. My thoughts exactly! This one looks wicked, man! 8) Yeah, you did a great job.
  3. Olle, you sneaky devil..... But many times the seller will indeed ship to Sweden, if you ask politely. On the other hand, there's a lot of uptight people who will not at no exceptions ship outside the US.....
  4. Ohhh wow, way cool! I like it A LOT!! That thing will be so popular. I think you have a winner there! 8)
  5. Wow, thanks for the info, Mark! I believe I had the opportunity to check both the AMT and JO-HAN kits around those years, and that's why I thought the parts looked identical to the JO-HAN kit. So it's an old MPC being reissued. Did you know quite a few MPC kits were issued as Airfix kits here in Europe, like that '65 Corvette. I have a very nice box with Airfix printed as the manufacturer. It's identical to the MPC box, have that as well, but it's not in the same condition. The kits are not complete, I'm a bit of a box art nut....
  6. Here's an old build from around 1975-76. It was sold as an AMT but somehow I thought it was a JO-HAN kit, reboxed. Anyone who knows the story? And isn't this the one being reissued right now? The strange paint job is red and yellow, sponged to get that mottled effect. The side panels were masked off, and the black sprayed. Decals were applied, and the whole thing was then cleared. Pactra paint was used. It was a fun quick build, and I used only the parts and decals from the kit. I flipped the numbers around to get 06, instead of 90 as it was supposed to be. BTW, what does this (pau) stand for, when it comes to finished models? Sorry, being a foreigner it's an expression I've never heard before. And I think I've been around quite a while to pick up a lot from the english language....
  7. Wow, once again you treat us with some eye candy! Both look outstanding, but I somehow like the "stock" one better.... COX slot cars have always been one of my favorites. Keep those beautiful cars coming!!
  8. Thanks for the heads-up Jairus! I'll keep that in mind when I put some more stuff up on ebay. Which means I have to do it now! Or tomorrow at about the same time.
  9. Cool story! It put a smile on my face... very familiar memories; My first American car was a '55 Chevy 2dr HT, it was light blue and white, and I raced it some, but never for money. It only had a mild 350/4 speed. No special girl with that car. She came along a few years later when I'd bought a '70 El Camino SS454. We met through a contact ad in a newspaper. Eventually she moved in with me, and she was the one I should have married. We broke up in '89 after living together four years, and I ended up selling the El Camino, to get rid of a stupid loan! I now have another El Camino, a '72 with 350/350. But no new woman.... I like to "dabble" myself, but haven't written anything like this. I used to write about models mostly and some car sometimes, in Wheels magazine. Now I might take it up again, as a freelance writer for a fairly new magazine called Gasoline.
  10. Hey Bill, that door opening thing looks very much like a Mazda....something, can't remember the number designation right now. You sure it's not a reskinned/rebadged Mazda? I mean with auto makers swapping models between them, who knows what's what these days. Now I'm not that familiar with some of these new makes you have in the US, like Saturn. It's almost like over here now, you find these small "Chevys" like Matiz and Kalos and whatnot.....Daewoo isn't it?? NOT a proper Chevy in my book!
  11. I have heard from an English friend who lives here in Stockholm, that Sunday is not a very good day to end auctions on ebay. Is this true, or a well known fact, and if so, why? Do modelers or collectors take this day off, and watch a ball game, drink beer instead? Religious reasons? For me, it's as good as any ol' day, since I have the day off, and can do as I please. So what do you guys say about this, is Sunday bad for business?
  12. WOW! Great looking Chevy! I've seen this one before, but I don't mind looking at it again. Your photos are great too! Welcome to the forum, I'm a bit of a newbie myself.
  13. Bob, please let us know what you intend to do with your box art collection. It is something I think is so cool! And I wouldn't mind having a few. I visited the JO-HAN factory in '92, and while given a tour, they showed some old box art that sat on a shelf. I said: "you should have them framed and hung on a wall" That's what I would do....
  14. Yeah, Ed's a cool guy! I found his '33 Willys pickup on ebay, and I asked if he could ship to Sweden. Sure, no problems. The stuff is very good, and we e-mailed back and forth, he told me about the real car - Red Baron driven by his friend Ken Kull. I found the pic of the real car on Schneider Cams site, and I just went nuts when I saw it, so cool. I thought it looked orange, but Ed told me: it's red, I helped him - (Ken Kull) build it, I gave him the inside door handles"!! How often do you get info like that? Yeah, I would definately recommend Drag City Casting. No, I haven't built the Willys yet, but I still think it looks orange..... At least in those pics at Schneider's site....
  15. Why don't you try Google.... I have a little tidbit concerning GM borrowing cars etc. I was in the US in '92, and visited car dealers among other things. So I have this catalog/brochure of Pontiac cars for '93, ok. Now get this: The Pontiac Lemans looked just like an Opel Kadett, except for the grille and some other trim pieces. Sneaky, eh? So in effect, a Swede visiting US, could walk ito a GM parts dealer, order all those parts, go home and swap 'em onto his Opel, and presto; a Pontiac Lemans!! Add some American license plates, and people would really scratch their heads.
  16. Very clean, or "evil, wicked, mean and nasty".... 8)
  17. Thanks for the kind words concerning my "Elky", James and Billy El Caminos are not so common on the streets now. They used to be very popular in the late 70's, since many people imported them from the US. I think the import and tax duties were much lower on trucks, and that's why many Elkys ended up over here. This is my second one, I used to have a '70 SS454-LS5 engine, M22 trans, A/C, Shadow Gray/Black.....and I sold it!!!!! Guess I regretted losing the other one, so I had to get a "new" one. I've had it almost exactly six years now. It was red all over when I bought it, even the Corvette Rallys. This is the way I think it should look, except for a '70 front end..... Billy, that Chevy Cobalt your brother has, looks very much like an Opel Astra, save for the grille and some minor details..... :?
  18. This is my toy, cruiser, or whatever you want to call it, a '72 El Camino. Yes I know, it's got '71 front turn signals, but don't tell anyone.... It's got a mild 350 with some other cam, headers, sounds good and turns heads. To quote an Ed Roth t-shirt print: "Camino, Hauls In Style" and on the bottom: "Wanted: Chick to share front seat, must have hair!" Darryl Gassaway got me the center caps for my old style "Americans" So now it looks the part, or it's in "Day 2 trim" After you got it from the dealer, and added your favorite wheels and such things. My daily driver is a red '83 Volvo 240 wagon with a turbo kit. It was something Volvo sold so people could convert their carbureted cars into a turbo.
  19. Cool! So, what's this, a COPO Firebird??
  20. Maybe it's supposed to be pronounced with some kind of Mexican accent.... Otherwise you'll just have to dig up some old employee from the old days of AMT. Maybe Mark Gustavson knows? Or Jim Keeler? Cool model! I like the idea of box art models, it's not something you see very much. But I think it's very cool.
  21. Ohhh, very nice Andy! Looks real slick with those wheels.
  22. It would be the venerable ol' 392..... 8)
  23. Hej Olle! I see you found this forum as well. Was it because of my note about it on our Swedish model forum? The Chrysler looks stunning! Could help that red is my favorite color..... I have to try and paint something other than red on a couple of models in the near future.....
  24. It might be the surface of your track that's the problem. Our track is smooth, and we can run any type of car. But that means the track has to be prepared accordingly. We have run with silicone tires, we had a special Cobra class. The cars used Kyosho MiniZ bodies, with chassis of your choice. Worked great! But we have to clean the track with alcohol. When we run our NASCAR cars, we use tires that are called "Black Magic", and they work perfectly, but the track has to be clean! We have to wipe it with alcohol to get rid of glue residue from the saloon cars. The saloon cars need a spray glued surface all over. Tires are Alpha medium. I raced the saloon cars a couple of years, but it got to be too intense, people were almost in each other's throats when there was a pile-up.... Some guys run the "wing cars" - G27 or whatever they are called, but that means they have to really prepare the track in order to make a lap time of 2.2 seconds!!! No kidding. Please check out the pics of our club track.
  25. Wow, looks spot on! Very nice build-up.
