Cool idea! I seem to recall a sketchpad rendering by Jairus, if I'm not all wrong. It was in SAE, and the car was done as a fourdoor. It was black also.

Yeah, I think so too, wonder why they were removed. Looks kind of tame now.... The story goes something like this: Someone of the Shifters car club built the car, it was sold and ended up over here in Sweden, where a guy from a club called Jokers owned it. Now it belongs to a girl and her boyfriend, but as he told me, it's her car! Isn't that cool?

Last Saturday the 5th of July I went to a custom car meet, about an hour's drive from Stockholm. The club Custom Kemps Of Sweden held their outdoor car show at the same time as the big Power Meet, but at a much quieter location. While walking around checking out cars, I almost froze in my tracks..... "This car looks just like the one I took a picture of in San Diego 1999!!" At the time we were driving around in a posh neighborhood, on our way to Point Loma I think it was.... Ferraris and Lambos, Porsches, Panteras were seen at every other driveway.... Somehow we got a bit lost and just drove around, trying to find the right way, when all of a sudden there's this cool '56 Ford parked outside a house! So I stopped the car, got my camera and shot a pic. Here's how it looked: And here it is in Sweden, minus the lake pipes and Foxcraft fender skirts.....

I got a letter from some collector in the US, and he somehow got my address. He was interested in buying my Corvette Summer model. It's a few years ago, but I've never considered selling it, since it involved so much work. Not sure if I'm up to that challenge again. Right now I don't seem to get any modeling done......

Good luck on your bumper hunt! The car will look much better....
-
Cool cars, and you scored some good stuff! It's good that you have two of each, to get the best parts and build one really nice car. Is it possible to ditch the big bumpers?? Rework them to make them slimmer would make a lot for the looks! Good luck on your project..... Now I have to get down in my garage and jack up the El Camino. Need to change the trans fluid and filter, messy job I guess.....

Hej Olle! Ohh cool, you found one of my favorite models! I remember when I saw this one for the first time, I just thought it was SO COOL!! All the neat little details you incorporated, and the fact that you called it the "Old Unreliable"..... How did you do the lettering? I mean, the changed letters were so right. It has character, attitude, and still looks like a race car, but it has seen better days. A masterpiece! I think it would stand up(out) in a contest today, no question about it, old friend.... So where is it now? Back in the "old country", or stateside?

What's this?
Modellpularn replied to paul@detaildownunder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's also called "Daytona Transport Truck", and yes, it was made by MPC. But this version didn't have a model car to go on the back part. It was molded in red, no metallic. It should have a clear top/canopy to cover the car on the back. I used to have one, unbuilt, but sold it on the 'bay maybe a year ago. Got pretty good money for it.....! Not sure if I still have the pic I put up on ebay.... -
Cool build, mate! You know, it's funny what you said about the Jo-Han chassis, 'cuz I've had the same thoughts too!!! I used to think it was a very nice kit, with all the details, engine and so on. But looking at that chassis now, jeez man, no detail whatsoever!! And I happen to have, I think,... a spare '71 Charger chassis....? have to go look for it now Ha-hah, found it! I bought a started project, a '62 Dodge Dart convertible, that someone had already grafted the chassis and inner fenders from a '71 Charger. Then as a bonus, there's another complete chassis in the box, but it looks more like a Road Runner chassis. Fuel tank is long and narrow on this one, whereas on the first chassis, it's more square in shape. It IS the Road Runner chassis, compared it to one I have in another project; a '70 Coronet Pro Street kit that's converted to stock. Started this before AMT released the Coronet in stock form...... Oh well..... maybe this means I can "deep-six" the old Jo-Han chassis....
-
Oohh yes, very nice "body shop" work!! I have that kit, unmolested...... Cool to see a Camaro with vinyl top, not too common these days. How rare, odd, unusual is that color combo? Look forward to seeing it finished!

"Holy Grail" Models?
Modellpularn replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Holy Grails.... hmm, let's see.... I guess I got hooked by this collecting bug in the early 80's. Some of my favorites, that I do own, are: The first issues of Monogram's '40 Ford pickup, '55 Chevy, '58 Thunderbird. Li'l Coffin, Uncertain T, Beer Wagon, Garbage Truck and Hurst Hairy Olds. Let's not forget the "Silver Flash" all chrome quarter midget..... AMT: '25 T kits, '28 Ford tudor, '32 Vicky-Phaeton, '40 Ford coupe, '49 Mercury, '56 Ford, '58 Impala, '59 El Camino, '65-66 Impala. MPC: '32-33 Chevy panel truck, "Wild Ones" - '28-29 Ford roadster pickup/woody, '57-60 Corvette, '65 Corvette w. parachute, '68-72 Corvettes - 1/20 scale also, '73-76 Caprice - a '75 will be built as a tricked out lowrider.... Revell: Lincoln Futura, Pontiac Club de Mer, Mysterion, Road Agent, Outlaw, Surfite, Mickey Thompson's Challenger 1, Stone/Woods/Cook Willys, I could go on a bit more, but I'm getting too tired now, have been working all night, taxi driver..... -
'fraid not, it was like 25 years ago I built it. But I guess I had to carve and file some on the back and bottom side of "him" for a better fit. And the hands are always a problem, if you need them to grip around the steering wheel. I've been building slot 1/24 NASCAR's for a few years, so you need to have a driver, and the hands always give me grief. Yet to come up with a clever solution.....

Check out my thread about the "Jeep in a mudhole". I used a mini-man for a driver.

Well, I know that a guy in England has built a boat for road use, and I think it's a threewheeler as well..... Andy Saunders, check the link to his boat: http://andysaunderskustoms.freeservers.com...0runaground.htm

I started out building ships when I was about 6 years old. One of the first was an aircraft carrier. I didn't look very much at the instructions, just kind of slapped everything together.... I had the stuff laid out on a newspaper. When it came to putting the tiny planes on the carrier deck, I just squeezed a pool of glue onto the newspaper, and dipped the planes into it, and put them on the deck..... Too bad we didn't keep it Might have been some more ships, but the next big one I recall was the Revell F-102A Delta Dagger. That first issue had a clever lever mechanism inside the fuselage. When you lifted the canopy, the landing gear came out! But I didn't understand how to make it work, or maybe I wasn't aware that it was supposed to work.... So I went and bought a second kit, think the first was a gift. I think I wanted to show or prove I could build it and make it work.... Didn't get that one right either, so a third kit was bought.... and finally got it working!!! Now I would really like to get my hands on that old kit. But they're not easy to find.... When I started to build cars, one of the first was Aurora's XKE Jaguar coupe. Think it turned out like a bit of glue blob. Discovered AMT's hot rods, but was puzzled by the 3in1 options.... like how are you supposed to get all that stuff onto the engine...??? But my skills improved, and got the Uncertain T, and built it very clean. At least I thought so. Hand brushed Humbrol red metallic on the body. Everything was painted before assembly. It looked a lot better than the one built and displayed at my LHS. It had been built, and then painted!!! Bugged me like crazy.... Some years later I got to build models for them, that were displayed. Oh boy was I proud, and got my revenge! Maybe that's the reason I started building and competing in contests, which I won many times.... I was the model building king at the time: mid 70's. This '56 Nomad was built in 1975, and was my "killer entry" at the Hot Rod Show model contest that year. It won Best in Show. Painted with green Murano pearl over hot rod primer. Superdetailed engine and chassis, svivel seats..... The grille has melted some. A friend helped me take pics some years later, and used 500 watts photo lamps, and 1000 watts did some damage......

Thanks, that sounds like a good tip! I might just try it......

Here's something I built many years ago, about 25, it must have been in the early 80's. It was a buildup for our Swedish magazine Wheels, I was the model editor at the time. First I built the Jeep, the MPC "Grrumbler", but raised it up, changed the wheels and added typical 4X4 gear to it. I swapped the flathead four for a V6 out of an AMT Mustang, I think.... It was painted a bright shiny orange, looked really nice..... until I decided to make it dirty! With the help of a friend we built this diorama, where the Jeep gets stuck in a mudhole, and has to use the winch to get out of there. Maybe the trees should have been a bit thicker or bigger..... I guess I can always try and find some other "trees" later, but this is how it looked when it was finished. It had been sitting in my basement storage since I moved to this apartment, almost 23 years ago. A fellow modeler on our Swedish forum has started a buildup of another Jeep, and I told him about this one. Some other guys remembered it, so I got it out and fixed the broken parts. Good as new!

1960 el camino
Modellpularn replied to sdrodder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys scored bigtime! Seems you might just need to do some paint touchup? add BMF, a little detailing here and there, and you've got a cool model! Be careful of that nice box, they are almost like fine art in my eyes...... But I'm a bit of a box art freak.... -
It wasn't today either, two came Friday. Revellogram '37 Ford coupe, and Lincoln Futura. A few weeks ago I got the Kenz & Leslie Cougar F/C. But it won't be a Funny Car, it will be a fun car......dune buggy! Iv'e got a parts kit of a "Ramchargers dune buggy" and this kit has the stuff to complete the buggy...

I know what it is now, the prototype Volvo Philip. But it looks like a Kaiser..... rumour has it Volvo used the Kaiser body panels straight off. So finally,... I can now go to sleep for a few hours.. yawn, good night, or...good day, it's 10:22 in the morning here now, and have to get up in a few hours, at 3:00 PM....jeezzZZZz
