  1. Oh no, more sad news. I've known Darryl since '99, we got to be friends over the phone, would you believe it!? He's truly a great guy, and has helped me get some stuff over the years. I regard him as one of my best friends. You know, with some people you just connect instantly, and Darryl is such a person. He has mentioned in email and over the phone that Karen wasn't feeling too well, but I never expected something like this to happen. My thoughts and prayers go out to you my friend. RIP Karen. Btw guys, it's Gassaway.
  2. George, I was there in 1992....! Jeez man, it's 16 years ago.... wow, does time fly, eh? Hmmm, have I said this before..... uh-oh, it's the glue affecting my memory.....
  3. Now I wasn't there, but #19 is our Norwegian friend Joern B Svendsen. He and "Darryl" Olle Möllheden are great guys. I'm really happy they made it to Toledo! "Been there, done that, almost got the t-shirt".....
  4. Cool Merc, Sully! Where do the wheels come from? They're different, but do work with the whitewall tires, I like 'em! Haf'ta get me one of them Mercs soon.....
  5. Hej Olle, what did you do with the leftover narrow halves?? A rod highboy?? Or.... Bonneville streamliner maybe...?? 'Later, Hasse
  6. Great looking Chevies Peter! The '57 looks much better without the uptop. The '56 was also very nice!
  7. You're quite welcome. It was details like the taillights, grille and engine compartment that I thought looked very good - realistic, with that argent paint around the taillights and grille, for example. Keep up the good work! Now let's see if I can get something done around here..... too many projects and stuff.....
  8. Oh, this is sad news. I'm not sure if I did meet him at the Western Nationals NNL in '99.... But anyway, he will be missed as he was a great model builder! I recall a story he told on this forum, about the box art for the '57 Nomad - the 1:1 one from 1968 or so, with the bronze paint and flames. They needed chrome wheels for the box art car, and took pics of some other car with chrome reverse wheels, but those pics were black and white, and then somehow managed to cut and paste the oldfashioned way for a very cool looking '57 Nomad with chrome wheels. I have that kit, and looked at it, and you cannot see any flaw on that car! That's one of the coolest box art I know, and with Mr Paeth's story, makes it even cooler.... My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. I think Revell should honor him in a special way! A reissue of that '57 Nomad kit for example....
  9. Absolutely gorgeous! Almost Juha Airio class... Very nice details.
  10. I could tell you the names of my Swedish and Norwegian friends, but maybe I should let them do it. They are the guys at the far right, one is kneeling, and the other guy is the one in the black t-shirt behind him.
  11. My thoughts goes out to him bigtime!! I know what it's like... I was in an accident three and a half+ years ago, got hit in the right side by this drunk who ran a red light, probably doing 40-50 mph! I was lucky to be out of the hospital two days later, but with a big bandage around my head.... That Chevy truck SS454 red and black, he did was something else! I'm working on a similar truck myself, but not as wild. Hope you get well soon man, but it takes time for the body to heal. Just take it easy, and remember we're thinking about you! If you need any model stuff, I'd be glad to help out. Styrene Greetings from Sweden!
  12. I haven't even started on it yet....... Inspiration is the one on the cover of the latest Rodders Journal.
  13. Ohh, how could I have missed this one.....!? Cool, and that new hood is sick, Ghoul Induction was a cool name..... Will it rise in the back, instead of the flapper door opening....??
  14. I met Gregg at the Western Nationals in '99, at the dinner after the show, and he was a real nice cool guy! He had hair back then..... I have a pic or two with him and Jim Keeler, also a great guy. You wanna see...? To say the least, I had a blast that time in California!!
  15. The PT has a 2.0 liter engine and manual trans. I've seen lots of V70's on this ad site over here. There's a white one, a '99 GLT with auto trans that caught my attention. It's 10K SEK less than the PT; 47.000 SEK which is about 7000 USD. I know a guy who is a Volvo mechanic, I think I'll have a chat with him what to get.
  16. How about a P/T Cruiser? Found one very close from home, a 2003, Limited Edition, metallic blue, optional 6-spoke 16 inch chrome wheels, low miles, and quite reasonable in price. I've checked with some friends that own PT's, and they are satisfied with them. ?? Or go for a Volvo V70? There are soo many cars for sale now, it's insane! Toyota, Skoda, Nissan..... jeez man, what to get??
  17. A friend from our Swedish model car forum found this pic: Olle to the right, and Jörn is behind the guy in the foreground. http://public.fotki.com/Tomk/model_shows_a...08/img0172.html
  18. George, it could have been our Norwegian friend, Jörn Svendsen, since Olle and Jörn are very close friends.
  19. So you met my old friend Olle Möllheden. Or as he sometimes calls himself: "Chromecop" or "Darryl O Möllheden" he's a big fan of Darryl Starbird and bubble top customs. I guess he brought his tiny dune buggy pedal car. I've been there myself, but it was a long time ago now that you count the years..... 1992. Wow, does time fly!! I remember I also had a blast at the show, and we were four guys from Sweden.
  20. Bob, I have already poured lots of money into the old wagon, which at the moment I won't get back if I should try to sell it, so like I said, I'll keep it and fix it up. Some previous owner did a trick taillight treatment; three lights on each side. "Volvo SS".....? Looks kind of cool, and I guess you could say it's got a safety factor as well; lots of lights!
  21. Here's a pic of the old "turbo wagon" Sorry, I forgot to mention it's got a turbo-kit installed, something you could buy from Volvo, to convert a carbureted engine into a turbo. The old engine had blown it's head gasket, so in 2001 an engine swap was in order, along with a lot of new parts.... rebuilt turbo etc.... Here it is, at my summer house: It's been sitting since early May when the clutch gave up. I think it's something wrong with the clutch fork..... so I have to remove the whole trans/bellhousing, it's like 1 piece..... feels like a nightmare job, but I guess I have to grit my teeth and dive into it.... If I buy another car, I might keep the old warrior and fix it up little by little. I have four better doors, that needs to be repainted - light blue now....
  22. That should not be too difficult. If you don't have any sheet styrene, get some! You could bring the piece you want to copy, to your hobby shop, to compare the thickness of the styrene. Then it's just a matter of copying the pieces. Make paper templates that you transfer to the styrene. Remember to reverse them for the other side. It's a square box shape basically, so just take your time, and you'll get it done. Why not post some pics of your work?!
  23. I'm about to go and buy a better car than my old Volvo 240 wagon, and I'm thinking maybe the little Chevy Nubira... Ohh, I know it's Korean, and some of my friends will probably hate me for getting one. My boss now works at a car dealer selling SAAB, Opel and Chevrolet, and I've been looking at it, and kind of like it..... So what do you guys think? I mean, you get three years new-car warranty with it. Or is it "Korean ######"?? Or should I buy a five-ten year old Volvo instead? I do like the V70 wagon, since I've driven them as taxis. Soo, what to do??
  24. I'm 52, pushing 53 in a couple of weeks. I started out with ships and planes, but being a car nut from day 1 almost, I finally came to my senses and got into cars. I might have been 7 or 8 at the time. But I think it might have been a mix of kits in those early years..... Eventually the cars took over, and I got into slot racing. I was probably the only kid in my 'hood that bought HOT ROD magazine at 11 years old/young - in Sweden, mind you!! And I picked up english from the magazines also. I bought them mainly for all the pics of cool rods and dragsters, that were cut out and taped inside the lid of my desk in school.
  25. Cool looking scoop! The color, is it House of Kolor, Planet Green? I bought a bottle of the stuff and have plans to paint a Chevy truck with it. It looks very much like flake on your truck, not so in the bottle. Looks like a pale green pearl to me.
