  1. I work as a taxi driver. Been doing it since early '93, so it's 15 years now...... Before that, I was a limo driver. Yes, I've met some famous people: Hall & Oates, Tom Jones, Gloria Estefan, U2, Bonnie Tyler, Black Crowes, Björn Borg, and a bunch of others...... I drive a SAAB 9-5 wagon, 2.3 liter BioPower, runs on ethanol: 210 hp. Pretty fast little sucker.....
  2. No, I'm keeping the Monte dash insert. That's the reason I got the dash, because I think it will add a bit of elegance to the interior. I've left the insert to a friend who's a furniture restorer, it needed some minor touchup. Even if it's a metal piece.... And now with the seat recovered, the interior will eventually look very nice. Not sure if I'll swap the dash in the near future, summer's almost here, and I don't want to be stuck in the garage with a non running car. Seems like a good winter project.
  3. Very cool and professional! I had the feeling you were some sort of sign painter, or artist.... I mean to do that kind of work free hand is truly done by someone who's talented! Or has done it a long time......
  4. Ohhh wow, really cool!!!! How about a big STP decal on the hood, as a tribute to Andy Granatelli...? I'm reading his book again; "They call me Mr 500" It's such a cool book, something every car nut should read!
  5. I've done some other work inside the cab, like add extra insulation on the floor. It's kind of like this Dynamat stuff, about 10 mm thick foam padding, with silver foil on one side, and self adhesive on the other. Cut to size, peel off the backing paper and stick it to the floor. "Hey, the whole inside is BMF'd"..... Some previous owner built this wall behind the seat, and it had to be removed, so I could get the carpet out. Those speaker grilles will be replaced with some oval Pioneer mesh covers. Not sure if I should paint them brown, or leave 'em black. What do you think?
  6. Thanks, I just stumbled upon it, when I was on a Hillman page.....
  7. Hey, I found this one as well! Knew it was familiar.... I have a relative who's got a Hillman wagon, and this one looks familiar, but it's a Singer Vouge, circa 1966!
  8. At first I was about to say Hillman, but it's something similar, rebadged..... unable to find it right now....tired uummm szzzZZZ
  9. I know what it is, a Rootes Asp - "sporting version of the Hillman Imp"
  10. Over here in Sweden gas prices would be around 9 bucks a gallon! But we pay per liter. Lowest rating is 95 octane, we can get up to 99 octane, but that's Shell's V-Power, and it is the better gas. But it costs more, of course. Diesel is now more expensive than gas. 10 years ago diesel was about 40 cents cheaper per liter. The taxi I drive, a SAAB 9-5 wagon runs on ethanol, but can run on gasoline too. And ethanol costs about 5.50 per gallon. But it gets lousy mileage, it drinks almost one tank per shift. The diesel cars will run two shifts on one tank!
  11. Here's the seat, just back from the shop, Got a package from Original Parts Group yesterday as well. Seems X-mas comes early this year.....a new steering wheel was ordered, this should look better than the other one. And I also got this steering column cover, for my Monte Carlo dash project
  12. Nice Camaro, but the Chevelle, Oohhhhh Wow, Gorgeous!!!!! Absolutely stunning!! And you so...... I know, I've been there, in the exact same position. I had a '70 El Camino SS454, also 4 speed; M22, Shadow Gray.... I'm still kicking myself for selling it.... arrggh.... I have another Elky, but not as hot as the other, '72 w. 350/350. But it's cool anyway!
  13. The engine looks really nice, but you installed the left (driver's side) valve cover the wrong way. The oil fill cap goes toward the rear, and the small black thing is supposed to look like a rubber grommet for the PCV valve. Sorry if I'm being so nitpicky, but I now have a set of those LT1 valve covers on the engine in my El Camino. Check some Chevy sites, you might find some other useful tips and ideas when it comes to detailing....
  14. Here's the Monte Carlo dash, a big plastic project...... I almost feel like the guys at Boyd Coddington: "I'm waiting for parts"... like the steering column cover, so it won't flex. It's developed a crack at the bottom of the speedo hole, and the column cover will get things in line, I hope And why do people do things like this??? Some major repair work is in order, but it'll be a challenge to fix it!
  15. Yeah, Pactra paint was avaliable over here in the 70's, and it was great stuff, just like the other "geezeers" said..... I still have a lot of cans left since the good old days.... Don't think they will spray any good now, but then I can decant the paint into my airbrush
  16. Hi! Your models look very nice, and very cleanly built. The Camaro could easily be mistaken for the real thing. Try a different background though, and then you could really fool people thinking it's a real car.....
  17. That Corvette issue featured my story of how I built the Corvette Summer car. A long time ago!
  18. Thanks guys! Steve, yes the shop had a few other projects waiting.... Like a complete interior for a Jag XJS, some boat seats, and maybe a few odd jobs, but he would look into it in between those other projects..... Sounded promising anyway. In the meantime, I have my work cut out for me, as I plan to swap the dash, among other things.... I now have the simple sweep dash, and I have a resto object of a SS/Monte Carlo dash. New parts have been ordered, like the tach and gauge package, and a number of other things. Just about everything needs to be replaced..... I'll keep you posted!
  19. The seat in my '72 El Camino was in a bad state, so I figured it was about time for some new threads. I believe it's from a '74-'75 Chevelle. I finally found a company that had the same pattern seat cover kit as my seat was. And after some emails, I could order the new seat cover kit. It became a special order, black vinyl with burgundy velour. Here's how it turned out. I got it Tuesday. It's now at the upholstery shop, and will probably be finished in about a month. And here's how the car looks:
  20. Very nice work Jim!! I have a resin T R that I might try to convert into a 500 Mondial from 1954. Pic will follow. What do you think about that? See, the thing is like this: I have a relative who's got a fiberglass replica of the '54 Mondial car, and he's installed it on a homebuilt chassis that he built in 1957. Engine is a 1936 Ford flathead bored out 1/8 inch. It's a true homebuilt car. The body was made by a guy in a town called Ockelbo, and there were quite a few of these cars built, using all kinds of different chassis. Because of that, these cars are known over here as "Ockelbo-Ferraris" My relative's car is now inspected and passed the test, so it's road legal, after all these years! I have driven it, in '84. But then it wasn't legal... just a short test drive on the local road.... I'd like to build a replica, if possible of his car, the Ockelbo-Ferrari. Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ockelbo-Lundgren
  21. Ohh cool, looks really real! At least the parts where you've done the weathering. It looks like it could use some more rust and dings on the body, looks too nice.... but the hood is great! Keep it coming.....
  22. Jeezz man, like freaky decals ......wow......
  23. You were in Stockholm!? When was this?? And what weekday was it? Olle, if this happens again, you have to let me know in advance! Send me a PM, ok? I would gladly give you "the scenic route"..... And you're right, it's just across the street from the museum. Oh BTW, I took the El Camino out for a spin tonight. Nice, it runs so smooth now!
  24. You think....?? Hmmm, I don't know, but then I never seem to catch the subtle signals.... if there were any... I need a big sign saying what they want. But I had a bit of an adventure a month ago, and that time it was no question about what she wanted....
  25. How cool, and a bit of a coincidence..... My first American car was a '55 Chevy Bel Air HT, and it had been ordered just like your model! When I bought it, it was blue and white, had been repainted a number of times, I was the 17th owner....
