Wow, that's insane, crazy, wild, cool, take your pick, but I'm drooling man!!!!
-
Hey man, cool car! I'm glad to hear my '40 got you going.... wild paint job, to say the least....
-
Richard, thanks for the heads-up info! I'll keep it in mind, and use your tip about scraping off the chrome trim. I got the hood to fit perfect, but eyeing the body from the side, the trim looks a bit off.... You'd be surprised and amazed at all the stuff we know about American cars and car culture over here. That story btw, was it something I had done, or was it done by Atle Eriksen? I checked your profile, and amazingly discovered we're born 6 days apart! That's cool!

That's what another friend suggested, since those "Agitator" decals are done in a varigated gold style. They came in Revell's 70 Torino GT, and I thought they looked so cool, I had to use them on something, like this one...... Kind of suits the car, don't you think? -
Since the Range Rover is a bit special.... I decided to build something quick and easy. I had a started '40 Ford - a project someone else had painted. It looked kind of ok, but you know how it is.... mold lines were present, and the front wheel wells looked a bit iffy. So it was dunked in the brake fluid/alcohol tank. A few days later it was rid of the old paint, and this is what I had planned: Moon discs are from AMT's Avanti, but then I tried a different tire; American Satco's beautiful wide whitewalls. See how the wheel well is uneven? Pic is a bit fuzzy, but I think you can see anyway. To fix the wheel well, I use a piece of sandpaper wrapped around a Humbrol paint tin, it's got a perfect radius for this. Problem fixed, but now I had to try another wheel..... The idea was to strip and repaint the black, but maybe leave it like this. Just sand the plastic and weather it with Rustall. What do you think?

Dave, I also feel the same way about this hobby! Since I got my new computer, and found my way out on the 'net, there's a whole new world that's opened up.... with ebay... hmm I feel like some drug addict that's in need of a fix, and the fix for us, is that old kit that holds a special memory of our youth, or something similar. Before you get it home, you're a bit of a wreck, and when it finally arrives, you have this stupid grin on your face, and you give up a big sigh of contentment. Am I right? The friends. Modelers are the best friends, I know, I've said it before, and it's true. Like you said Dave, I've also made many new friends on different modeling forums. Our swedish, and this one, and the other place - you know which one..... that I don't visit very much these days. Before internet, it was down to writing letters, and I sent pics of my models to Street Rodder. They published some of the pics in their first installment of Modelers Corner, and two years later a whole page of my stuff.... Wow, I had no idea! That led eventually to a trip to the US in 1981, where I met Tim Boyd. And it was like meeting an old friend, since we "spoke styrene" So cool to meet somebody on the other side of the world, and connect instantly! At the time, I used to write about models in Wheels, a swedish "hot rod" type magazine, and I did a story about Tim's models. At this year's NNL in Toledo, a swedish friend of mine attended, and met Tim, and he sent me a greeting through my friend who told me on our swedish forum. When I've been to a model contest in the US, and here in Sweden too, it's always a friendly atmosphere, and whatever troubles you may have, disappear right away! Puts a big smile on your face. Tonight I visited another modeling friend. He had a resin '58 Pontiac that I wanted, so I went for a drive in my El Camino to pick it up.... pun not intended... That was nice also, +5C and dry streets. But now I have to fix the Volvo.... -

The wheel tubs are now done, next up is to widen the firewall.... Still not sure about the color.... maybe go with a dark green, like the British Racing Green. Guess what, I found one up for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-ESCI-1-24-SCALE-R...id=p3286.c0.m14 Soo.... anyone else fancy a Range Rover....? -
Hey stump, it looks really mean now with the stripes! Cool idea for lowering the front.
-
Hello juergen, I think you're off to a good start. Nice color and wheels. Maybe 23' is a bit too large for the front, maybe the 19' would be better. What color are you going to paint the bumpers, body color, or some charcoal, or Alclad?
-
Hey evil, you got some neat projects going on! I like the Bullit Mustang, nice color you got there. Are you going to add the side scoops later? 'Cus it looks like the AMT Shelby GT 500 body.... that's a mean machine! Dave, it must have been cool to grow up in those days, eh? I wish we could have stayed longer in "'Dago"......

I've been adding styrene strips to the wheel tubs, since I thought it was too much of a gap between the body and the chassis. This is an in progress shot, I've added some more since.... it's getting better. I know, this might be totally unnecessary work, but I'd like to blend the chassis panels so it will look like it belongs under this weird body..... -
Why is it always some little glitch with new models? I've been thinking of buying the Revell custom '49 Merc, but the lower body panel behind the front wheel well look too flat-straight. When you look at AMT's Merc, it's curved like it's supposed to be. Oh well, I guess that's why we're modelers, can't leave well enough, can we...? Sounds like I have to hold off on the Nova, in order to get the corrected gas tank issue.....

'37 Ford, "minor adjustment"
Modellpularn replied to Modellpularn's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks guys, I just wanted to pass on a simple adjustment for this kit. It does make a big difference in the end.... oh sorry, bad pun.... -
It's kind of sad to hear all these rumours about Jo-Han. It's too bad the Seville people didn't pull through, since it seemed like a real serious effort. I actually visited the old place in Detroit in 1992, and it was a cool place. I have pics of the visit, that I need to make digital.... Sometime in the future I'll make an effort... George, that's not cool to get a resin blob as an interior, sorry to hear that. I've been having my doubts about this new operation.... Bottom line is: Jo-Han is NOT was it used to be!!

Art, a very heartwarming story in these harsh times! BTW, you still got the HOT ROD SHOW t-shirt I gave you in '99, at the Western Nationals?? -

A small update. The stock gas filler opening had to be filled. A piece of styrene have been glued in the opening, and some putty applied. Now for some sanding.... Also, this is the injection setup, not sure where it's from. I'll strip the chrome, and cut the stacks because they will be replaced with aluminum tubing. -
Pretty cool! How did you do the torn upholstery?

I was wondering what color to paint the old "brick", and asked my buddies on our swedish forum. One guy, a real close friend, came up with ORange, which would suit it, since someone here called it a brick..... I kind of like the idea! So O-Range it will be.... Or even wilder, a brick paint job...!!? Could I find brick decals anywhere? -
I've seen some builds of the "Revellogram" '37 Ford, and while dryfitting some, I was a little annoyed at this lip that's attached to the lower part of the body section. It won't tuck into the fenders, always a gap..... So I decided to do something about it, using the coupe version of this model. I simply removed the lip, and glued a piece of sheet styrene in it's place, but on the fenders. Like so: And after some grinding of the thick plastic on the lower portion inside of the body, it looks like this; Much better don't you think? I can now proceed in building a plausible replica of an old hot rod from Stockholm, called "Mystic Blue" 'Later......

Bob, I can fully understand if you made a typo. In fact, I got a bit choked up as well when I was writing my post. If the financial situation right now wasn't so bad, I'd hop a plane and head out to San Diego, no question about it!! -
Have I showed you guys this one before?? My memory is getting worse.... Anyway, it's an ESCI kit that I crossed with Monogram's "White Lightning" Pontiac. Wheelbase on both cars were identical, so no cutting was needed. Almost a drop-in of the old Pro Stock chassis into the Range Rover. Just some "minor adjustments"...... It's been sitting for some years now, as I was probably planning one of those superdetailed projects.... no more! Now I'll apply the KISS method: Keep It Simple Stupid..... The plan was to go with the tunnelram and big Dominators, but I think a set of high injectors would be wild, he he! Here it is, the "Agitator" I might build a Firebird 4X4 with the leftover parts.....
