Bomber....? Sorry if I'm not up to speed on the lingo, but I thought that term applied to old style hot rods..... Oh well, whatever. But the engine you have is no small block, sure looks like a fat block with those valve covers and exhaust manifolds. A good heart transplant! You have the Pro Touring look on it.

I like your choice of paint. And the black stripes are perfect!! A pseudo muscle car; Chevy Vega SS _ _ _ Reminds me of my old '70 El Camino SS454.... sigh.... it was Shadow Gray with black stripes!

And here I am showing off one of my oldest projects
Modellpularn replied to tim boyd's topic in WIP: Model Cars
TIM, the time frame of your project is the same as when I built my Chevy van. It was completed in time for the Hot Rod Show in 1977. Later, in early November it was stolen from a display case, in a hobby shop..... Only pic I have is a yellowed newspaper clip. So, will you ever finish this one? A flashback to the disco era. When life was simple and good,...... right?! -
I have to second that comment about the Firebird, it's awesome! Like the Impala too!

Yeah, nice color combo! I was thinking about doing some car like that, but wasn't sure if it would look good..... Now I know it does!! There's a model contest coming up in a months time. Better get crackin' ! Really need to get something done around here, to break this builders block....

Anyone know where I can find.....
Modellpularn replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or.... Reliable Resins also has one! -
Ohhh, I guess Dad is proud of his boys now! The paint jobs look great! Keep up the good work boys, and you'll be building show winners eventually. A nice paint job gets attention, but don't forget all the other details on a model car...... I'm sure Dad will show you how to do them as well. I'd love to see the finished models.

How about a little model car history?
Modellpularn replied to tim boyd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well thank you for showing me your stuff! It was some time ago, eh?! 1981. Let me know the next time you're heading my way of the world.... I took the liberty to "proof read" and correct your comment. Sorry can't help myself.... HANS -
Wow man, that's a wild sucker....!!!

How about a little model car history?
Modellpularn replied to tim boyd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Shhh, don't tell Tim..... I've actually seen the Tangerine Dream, and the Pink Flamingo - '58 Impala, live in person when I met Tim in 1981. I took pics of a bunch of his models, and devoted an article in our swedish Wheels magazine to Tim's models. I used to write about models in Wheels back then. -
That's a very cool Stude custom you've built! I like the headlights. Gives it a certain early 60's Mercedes styling. The MB headlights on the 220 models were big one piece units. That plastic wrap stuff would indeed make for some interesting upholstery patterns...... if you can find some that is....

I like this build-up, so I'm going to be a bit of a nitpicker... The steering wheel is Chevy '58-'60. But that's the one from the kit, isn't it? Did you know that Ed called it "Excaliber" from the start? It had the same steel wheels front and rear, and a..... handmade aluminum top! It's featured in Car Craft January 1960, and yes, I have the magazine.... I met Ed while on a vacation trip to San Diego in '99. I attended the Western Nationals NNL in San Mateo, with Darryl Gassaway. The next day we went to the Oakland Roadster Show, and there were all these cool cars, live! A lot of those old cars I'd read about in magazines as I grew up.... Wow! And I walked up to Ed's booth, talked to him, and then all of a sudden, here comes George Barris. Snapped a pic of them together. That's a cool memory to have, now that Ed is gone.

What a cool conversion! This is the kind of stuff I like. But haven't done so many myself.....

Wow, that's a beautiful panel truck, Tom! Great color and wheels, sits right. Very cool!

I remember reading about these contests in Car Model, and was very impressed. I guess I picked up a tip or two..... Over here, we only had one place, once a year, that was the Big One. The model contest at The Hot Rod Show in the "Marble Halls" Sadly, that place is ruined. Gave way to car park on the upper floor, where the marble was paved - asphalt!!! Back to the 70's: Those contests became the place where I showed my stuff, and usually came out on top. 1973-76 were the golden years at the Marble Halls. Then the Hot Rod Show had to move to a new location, and the magic of the old place was gone forever. But I kept on building. 1978 Was a good year for me, I got coverage of my models in Street Rodder, and almost landed a job at Revell. But it never worked, being a foreigner, green card and other red tape problems..... I should have hopped a plane, swept up some babe and gotten married. Then maybe.....

Not quite finished, been sitting like this for years..... Sorry...but I felt compelled to show them anyway. Just needs some final assembly. Based on the old Monogram kit, that's how long ago I started.... I think the black one was painted with Pactra paint, I used it a lot. It's what was avaliable. This one was painted with real GM color: Shadow Gray, since I had used it to touch up some areas on my real '70 SS454 El Camino. Had some paint leftover. These models were built from a memory of two Chevelles I saw at a coffee shop in 1973, and later at the racetrack. These guys left the diner in a big rush. They raced to the track..... we came upon them several miles down the road, they had been pulled over by a motorcycle cop!! I think they were LS6 cars.

The gold does look awesome! Are you going to keep it clean, or..... use the kit decals?
-
Wow, great job, Zed! It's perfect, and the '59 as well! I really like the way you made those frenched headlights. I have to try that myself. Got lots of '55 Chevy wheelcovers......

Lower Left Coast NNL

Wish I could be there........ -
That top chop looks perfect, just the right proportions!!
-
With that candy in the first post, I thought you were going to call it "Hot Fudge" or something.......
-
Cool conversion! I've thought about that too. And of course did I sell my late reissue of the 1/24 rpu..... Have to look for some junk body at swap meets. Or maybe ask some friends.
-
If you had some bigger rear tires, it might look good jacked up, but not with stock redlines. Why don't you drop it back to stock ride height. Yellow maybe, with black stripes...?

Lindberg 66 chevelle SS. Any good?
Modellpularn replied to Dragline's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just checked the one I've got, and the intake manifold looks a bit strange, and way too narrow. That's probably why I haven't built it..... lame excuse, eh? An engine swap, and you're all set! Hmmm, better get my hands on this one. How shall I build it.....?
