Thanks Gator, The Q-tips were used so I didn't have to sit for hours waiting for the white glue to dry.White glue sure works well for windshields and if you get any on them it comes off really easy and drys clear. Once the paint was done with the rest is easy. I have the cab interior almost done should have pictures tomorrow I hope. I added a few things to it. Ken. -
Here are some pictures of my building space. When I was a young boy I had a small area,I mean real small area in the basement between the Mason canning jars and the boxes. I would sit down there for hours building my models. Once I was older I moved to a one bedroom apartment where I built models on a very small desk in the bed room. I got very used to working in the small spaces that I had. Now that I'm older I moved into a three bedroom townhouse where we had a spare room used as a guest room/model room. Well I have now taken over the room a got rid of the bed and repainted to get rid of the eggshell white. It's now painted Dale Earnhardt colors Gray with a red strip and a big black desk. I now call it my man cave. I also have a security guard that stands watch or sleeps out side the door when I build. Wall unit is from IKea. The security guard. Thanks, Ken.

Cat 3408 brake saver
Kenny B replied to Kenny B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What I'm looking for is a hand valve that is on the right side steering column I think just below or above the trailer service hand brake. I have a picture that someone had posted but don't remember the reason he added it to the column. I thought it was some kind of brake saver or engine retarder on a cat 3408. I'll up load the picture. Here is the picture that I'm talking about. I don't remember the story behind it. Ken. -

Jim, These snap kits sure end up looking good. Ken. -
I have a question for you.On the old Cat 3408 engine they never had a Jake brake on them. I read somewhere that they had a brake saver. Was the brake saver a hand valve on the right side of the steering column or on the dash or was it a switch on the dash.Ken.

Thanks John. One thing about the large scale trucks is that there is so much you can do with them. The only down side is that nobody makes after market parts for them. You are pretty much on your own . I hope you do build one it was a lot of fun to do even with the paint issue. My next one in line is a 1/16 scale KW w900. Plan to have fun with that one as well. I hope that you do build one I enjoy looking at other peoples ideas as well. Ken. -

Looking through my parts box I found a poor looking CB unit that needed a little work. It's missing the back and the bottom of it and no cables. A bit of plastic, a little silver wash and some wire makes it looks alot better. The CB will be mounted on overhead compartment. The windshield was glued into place and is now drying. I like to use plain old fashion white glue. Works every time. Easy clean up. That's it for now. More to come very soon. Ken. -

Thanks guys. It sure has taken me a while to get her done. I'm sure not one to throw in the towel. The paint thing sure set me back a bit and even thought of stripping it right down and going to a different color. I'm glad that I stuck with it for sure. I've started on the cab interior and have a few pics to show. I made the template for the headliner out of paper to get the right fit. Once I was happy with the fit I traced it to a thin piece of cardboard and then glued on the material. I really wanted to use the same leather that was used on the seats but didn't have any pieces big enough to use. So I had to settle on the same material I used for the sleeper walls. The marker lights were made from Plastruct fluoresent rod painted clear orange. The idea was to light the truck up but I have now decided not to do it. An over head storage compartment was made to cover the inside . Head liner installed Storage compartment test fit. More pics to come........ Ken. -

Well I'm at the point of my build that everyone thought I would never get to. It's now time to put it all together. The cab marker lights and back cab wall are now installed. Carpet and seatbelts are installed also. The door panels were re done because I wasn't happy with the door handles that were built the first go round. New wood trim and door open handles were built. The windshield was in real bad shape. It was so badly cracked that I just couldn't use it. I looked around the house to find some clear plastic to use. I ended up using an old tape cassette tape box that had a bit of a tint to it. I had to make it in two sections and fits alot better than the original one. Seats are ready to install as well. And at last the rest of the parts and pieces are ready to be put in the cab. Once everything is assembled the hinged doors will be installed as well. Will post more as soon as she comes together. Thanks for following my build. Ken. -

I have finally set down the sanding pads. I have wet sanded just about as much as I can. It was time to drag out the wax and polished the sleeper. I see a few small things that still need a bit of work but no big problem. Well I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. There is still a bit of wet sanding to do and a few touch ups but most of the headache is done. Almost time to start putting her together. Thanks to everyone that is following my build. Ken. -
