  1. Very impressive, Brian ! Looks much better than mine with those ugly fenders: I will omit them when reworking mine. Though more than 35 years ago, I remember fitting issues with the butterfly hood/fender combination, shortening the front axle is also a thing that I will do in the future.
  2. Thank you all for the nice comments, guys - very appreciated !
  3. Thank you all for the comments, guys - these 2 are my favorites of the newer Ferrari "Supercars" and I happened to find a red color that comes close to the originals. (I have Tamiya's F50 and the Enzo in my stash also, but don't like them)
  4. Thanks, Patrick!
  5. If you want to turn it into a more realistic model, here are some pics of the original (might be helpful with detailing) - the model represents the first version from 1968, in 1969 the works cars sported often full width rear spoilers, several cars were sold to privateers who mounted often various tabs and fins, for 1970 the nose was altered and the engine cover partially cut away to save more weight: Now some photos of restored cars from recent years:
  6. Few years ago I acquired a Politoys Abarth 2000 prototype in a fair condition: roll-bar, side windows and windshield wiper missing, some severe paint-chips, persistent residue from ugly stickers. But the car looked good, it has indeed a very short wheelbase and therefore very successful in hillclimbs on twisty mountain roads (2 ltr- 4 cyl. engine, 250 hp, gross eight ca. 575 kgs = about 1300 lbs.). This is how it looked initially: First, the model was cleaned, then the stickers were removed (hard work !) and finally the remaining glue residue was removed by using mineral spirits/petrol. Then it looked like this: As I wanted it to look like a typical period racer, I fabricated 2 headlight bezels with 4 lenses from the spare box (the model is missing front lights - this was supposed to be a toy), made 2 side windows from clear acetate, bent a rollbar from insulated wire, applied a wiper from my '64 GTO and several decals after repainting the whole body as well as some detail painting on the engine/exhaust and interior - here it is as it looks now: Of course, the license plate had to be altered - Abarth was situated in Torino and not in Milano, side indicators came from the truck spares. Even if some details are wrong (side windows too short, rollbar too thick, wip0er should be of the parallelogram type) it was a rewarding work - I recommend this model to all fans of '60s sports racers !
  7. Excellent model, Gary - looks like it doesn't have any issues at all - remember this is more than 50 years of age!
  8. Yesterday arrived this one from Italy: 1986 Ford RS 200 from the 1/24 WRC collection:
  9. Super Mario - you did it again - the last 3 pictures show the real truck, don't they? :-)
  10. Fantastic looking rustbucket, Mario - great photography, too!
  11. x 2: what Bob said : outstanding build, as always !
  12. Now something different (for me) : Old 1/24 Monogram kit from 1978 - built in 1985 straight out of the box - cut-out glass roof - black from the spray-can, clearcoated also. Trim is Humbrol silver brushed on - no polishing, no bare metal foil = old school in '70's street rod style. Her is the box (picture from scalemates): Now the model (pictures are from June, 2020)
  13. Outstanding build as usual from you, Mario ! Just the right amount of use on this one!
  14. Thank you Peter, back then I used car laquers from the spraycan bought in automotive shops (mainly duplicolor and Auto-K, both German companies). As this was more than 30 years ago and the paints have been used up long time ago, I can't remember the exact descriptions any more.
  15. Thanks, Gary - also have the Italeri racing version in my stash (Mike Q. had an article about this in MRRN's first issue, IIRC) - so these had to be built stock (a Fujimi street curbside of the F40 is also waiting - this one has correct wheels)
  16. Thank you all for the comments, guys - I normally try to avoid the almost boring red with Ferraris, but these 2 had to be painted in that color.
  17. Thanks you Anders - maybe I will correct the roofline and the hood scoop, but I think the dark red/burgundy color suits it well.
  18. 2 old builts from 1985 and 1988: Italeri's Ferrari Supercars - the 288 GTO from 1984 and its follower, the awesome F40 from 1987. Both spraypainted in red from the can, bodies well proportioned (at least to my eye), biggest flaw: the wheels are totally wrong - same dimensions front and rear! Another issue with the F 40 is the engine cover - you have to cut it open, and then it does not close/fit well - both built out-of-the-box. Anyway, here are the pics (taken yesterday): Here is the 288 GTO: and now, the F 40: this is how the other drivers would have seen it (if they ever did):
  19. Once again, an old 1/25 politoys toy car - heavy metal (chassis also !), everything opens, supension and steering work. I snapped this on ebay a few years ago - first 2 pictures of the 1968 original: it is one of the most famous creations of Marcello Gandini, back then Bertone chief designer - the first wedge design car with guillotine doors which later came with the Lamborghini Countach. The Carabo was a one-off design study on a chassis of the tipo 33, 2-ltr. V8 racecar. The photo on the right is of the restored car (air filters on the carburettors) Now the model - with a bit of TLC it can be turned into a rather good representation of the real one - biggest mistake is the hood louvers on the front : they should be rectangular edged and not round - the other things can surely be adressed to without big surgery - repainting and detail-painting. Here is the model:
  20. Thanks, Gene - but I have not done very much (apart from a bit cleaning an polishing) - I have no solution for the yellow tinted windshield (probably due to being exposed to UV light)
  21. Thank you Carl - it will be reworked some day.
  22. excellent weathering and rust holes, Mario - looks like the real thing !
  23. Thank you, guys - it is a lot of fun to modify a die-cast - at the moment I'm altering a little bit my second Danbury Testarossa 250...
  24. Thanks, guys - I think FM did really well with this one - it is better detailed than their earlier gullwing SL in every aspect.
