That's a great picture Bill, I didn't have that one. I think that maybe during practice, note the object (identification light?) mounted on the roll hoop. I believe this photo is from the race and note it doesn't appear to have the Autolite or Goodyear stickers. Looks like there maybe a little toy bear strapped to the base of the roll hop.

Thanks for the kind comment gentlemen. I am in the home stretch on this one but I can't figure out the decal that is just to the right of the Gulf sticker. VRM didn't send along the placement legend. Anyone recognize what it might be? If you click on the photo you can see it in full scale.

Pictures of the kits mentioned would make this tread far more interesting. Reading a bunch of lists is not much fun.

Yea that is not an original badge. My reference tells me all 289s had the "Powered By Ford" badge and all 427s had this badge. I have about a dozen Cobra books and to the best of my knowledge all original Cobras came with the fender vent body color. However there are a lot of cars out there with bare aluminum fender vents.

I think once you start adding turbos and exhaust a little extra room between the engines will be welcomed and will quickly fill up.

The volume of vintage race cars in 1/43 scale is mind blogging. I wish even a fraction of them were available in 1/24 scale.
