  1. I hear you William, but rally cars of that era needed quite a bit more clearance for wheel travel than current rally cars. Even on tarmac events.
  2. Thank you for everyone's interest so far. Here is a comparison of the modified and the unmodified body sitting on the same chassis. Modified wheel well. Unmodified wheel well
  3. First mock up, still a long way to go.
  4. Its pretty much an unwinable argument. Just wanted to stimulate some discussion and have an excuse to posts some cool rally photos and pictures. Also raise awareness of this sport.
  5. Hey Matija. Yea I ordered the Reji PE set. If I like the PE grill better I will use it or save it for a later build. I want to build more that one of these kits.
  6. Are you working from scale drawings Randy? If not where are you getting your dimensions? It looks good.
  7. If you know Petri please tell him I said thank you. His build is a great reference and an inspiration.
  8. Yea there is one on ebay. Last I checked the bid was $51
  9. Looks great Marcos. What did you use for the cable? Looks very realistic.
  10. Opened up the front cooling vents and created radiator opening. Opened up the grill and head lights.
  11. Very cool project. I have contemplated doing a full detail build as well but in plastic. Thunder Valley Miniatures has the best GT40 wheels I have seen. The set on the left. The Fujimi wheels are on the right. The problem is Thunder Valley no longer sells their transkit. It may be worth contacting them and see if they would make you a set.
  12. My clear body Escort had a casting deformity in the front edge of the roof. I had to repair it with putty to make the kit buildable. When I build it I am going to paint the body.
  13. I did remember correctly. Although the box art for the Crystal Escort shows the rally car the kit actually includes the touring car. I believe this is all of the versions issued to date.
  14. Revell of Germany was the most recent re-issue. They Issued the Escort along with the Fiat 131.
  15. I record episodes. I was watching the Cosworth Sierra episode and they said something about Fuzz being in a band. Is that right?
  16. Is it available for trade?
  17. Looks like your kit is sealed Geoff. I have an opened kit of the Crystal Escort. I will dig it out this evening and post some pictures. Maybe I am misremembering that it is the Zakspeed body.
  18. We are now getting, in the States a cool British car restoration show called "Car SOS". I love watching them restore the small saloon cars. Geoff, I have followed several of your builds and you always do a fantastic job. I'm sure this build will be no exception.
  19. Replica & Miniatures has a very nice Ford 6-cylinder engine is resin. I highly recommend it.
  20. Thanks for the tips Leslie. I am going to modify the suspension so I will make sure to correct these issues. I am currently waiting on the photoetch kit. William / Geoff, If I am not mistaken the clear body kit is actually the touring car (Zakspeed) even though it comes with rally decals. The only difference between the touring car and the rally kit is the body & wheels. Everything else, chassis, engine etc. is the same.
  21. Very nice Douglas. Where did you get the decals?
  22. There was always something that didn’t look quite right to my eye about the rear flairs on the kit. I have heard many people say that the flair should not extend above the body crease. Yes there are versions of the car with the top of the flair below the belt line. However there are also versions with it extending above the belt line. So that wasn’t it. After studying many photos of the 1:1 car I think I figured it out. The top of the rear wheel well on the kit is too low. If you draw a line through the apex of the wheel wells it should be parallel with the belt line. You can see this in the photo on the bottom unaltered car. The car on top I have raised this apex about 1mm (one scale inch) to bring the lines parallel. Its subtle but I think it makes a big improvement.
  23. Very nice. Don't know much about drag cars. I assume the fuel tank is offset to allow some cooling to the engine. But shouldn't it be on the passenger side for better weight distribution?
