I would probably have to do a Youtube video to show how.......I learned how to do this about 4 years ago from Mike Lavallee's True Fire video (GREAT learning video!!!) Bought the templates, and the video and started going at it on motorcycles, car hoods, and helmets (to name a few.) Got out of doing it on large objects because people did not want to pay the price.....the clearcoat alone was over $125.00 a quart not to mention all the colors. Fast forward to last year.....I bought the True Fire templates for models and .....well....here you go.

Sorry Matthijs, it wasn't until last night that I was able to get the Callaway Speedster kit I needed for the rear clip transplant......the build was stalled because of this......anyways.......cut it out and grafted it in this morning. Should be able to put up some updates soon. Thank you for the interest and support!! -
Great to see you guys as usual! More projects ideas....... (yay!)

I thought I heard it was next weekend........ Would love to get to Greenfield but I am sure it will probably be empty by this weekend......see you guys tomorrow!

Datsun 240zg. In no way shape or form is this stumps build?
Kennyboy replied to lanesteele240's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking great Gary! For that part that keeps cracking......you could try a trick that I use when I cut apart and glue bodies together. Re-enforce the backside with ca glue soaked toiletpaper....sounds funny but it bonds to the surface like no tomorrow!! -
Suggestion about works in progress postings

I am probably one of the offenders here for dropping off the map on my WIP's......I am sorry for doing that..... ......but what you need to understand is, I try to build as much as I can but alas: I am a father (that helps frequently with homework), a husband (that must keep the other half happy), and a hard working auto crash test technician (that is ensuring you have a safe trip home or where-ever it is you are going to.) -

'39 Wagon rod/Boyd Smoothster Kustom kitbash
Kennyboy replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thank you guys! I chose the orange(y) pearl because I thought it would work great with the later woodgrain.....the blue....well I had to use it up! -
This has been a side project of mine....always wanted to combine the Boyd Smoothster front end with the 39 Wagon Rod. That is just what this is........cut the Wagon Rod at the front of the doors and worked in the Smoothster front end. I like how the chrome matches up with the Woodgrain panels on the side (just like I hoped they would!) Color is HOK Majik Blue on the top with a Kandy Purple over it and the lower level is HOK Molly orange with HOK Goldmine Pearl over it. Did the body first on this project (which is odd for me......who knows could be a new trend!) Pics from the booth:

Thank you James! Thank you Mike! I have yet to have any issues like that .........boy I hope I don't! J/K.... I tend to use lacquers that will bite into the primer no matter what....also i lay the basecoats on with an airbrush with 3 light coats before a medium/wet top coat. (before clear of course.) -

Thank you Carl and Jonathan and Wayne, I LOL at that one Wayne! Been working on the wheels (ready for paint) two piece ZR1 wheels, staggered bigs and littles. (19 inch rear and 17 inch front.) Also, been working on the body......got the rear skirts matched in, chassis adapted over, and filled the rear taillight holes/Corvette script/third brake light. (next will be vent cutouts.) Pics soon........ oh yeah before I forget, I think I am going to do the color like the picture in my profile.....the blue one. -
Callaway C4 LM Corvette Kitbash WIP........ New pics 1/18!
Kennyboy replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Worked on this again today..... Got the chassis modified/mocked-up to fit the new front end and the extended side skirts. Also, built and filled the rear skirts, built the new wheelset (ZR1 wheels mounted in 19 inch hoops) and wetsanded the hood down to 12000 grit as seen in the pictures....the hood is officially ready for paint. The reason I have so many pictures of just the hood is because that is where most of the work took place. Needless to say, this should move along a little quicker from here on out. Pics: -
This is just outstanding work Delfin! The details are magnificent. Great work on the carbon too!

Still up in the air on color (was thinking of doing it a yellow with a gold pearl..... probably going to do the wheels in the traditional black of the GS..... BUT, they will be a larger staggered low profile two piece ZR1 "style" Good suggestions for color schemes! got me thinkin'...... -

Callaway C4 LM Corvette Kitbash WIP........ New pics 1/18!
Kennyboy replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Been working on smoothing out the hood, wetsanding on the primer with several different grits (started with 400 and finished with 4000 grit.) Spending so much time on the hood the body is starting to look like a "second class citizen!" Some quick pics with both light and shadow to show the surface is close to paintable: -

Thought about doing this.......but for me it is just not worth it in the long run. You see, the hood is made up of six pieces glued together then laminated (per se) on the underside with toilet paper soaked with glue to make it all one piece <----this method works great for piece-ing things together out of multiple parts. Patching the holes and re-drilling COULD cause issues with seams opening and such. Besides I think it looks alright with them in their orientation. I do appreciate your thoughts and ideas though. Cheers! Thanks Oscar! I dont know I guess I just see it when I look at something......I find myself thinking thru a mental database of different cars and shapes to come up with the right combination.
