Slumpbuster build: Dodge Sidewinder Custom/Kitbash (New pics 9-18)
Kennyboy replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey I'm back again......since last time I have completed ALL the bodywork ( ) and painted it. I decided on a color similar to Viper GTS blue (but I added a SMALL touch of purple Kandy into the mix......the pictures just dont catch it though. It is outside on this beautiful day airing out and letting the paint fume out. Here are a couple of pics that are ok but they just dont capture the true pearl color. Oh well, here you go. -

I have seen all three of those kits Bill and Jim. Bill knows me from the type of builds I do........I am not too well known for spending too much on an overpriced kit. I originally tried to get a C4 Vette rear window to fit, but it was too wide and would not bend even with heat (ended up breaking it down the middle. ) At the moment, I am trying to get a piece of clear acetate to work in there by using Mr Obsessive's method of building a channel for it to sit in. I have gotten the back end of the 1971 Revell Porsche 911 racing kit modified to accept the glass,( built the B pillar hoop and have installed the glass channels) just need to size it up right to snap in. Oh yeah, I am using this kit at the moment \/ (I have two of them)

I made the fender flares on my version of this kit by using Apoxie Sculpt (2 part epoxy...Ebay) and filling around a piece of sheet styrene bent around the wheel well (like if the piece of styrene was a tire in the wheelwell.) Once the styrene is in place, you just knead the two parts together and form a long slender "hotdog" of epoxy clay and push it into the styrene at the wheelwell edge. After about 2-3 hours you will be able to do some smoothing on it (gently). Sand/file to your liking the next day, prime and paint. Looks like this \/ -
NICE haul James!!! You build my kind of stuff! I just got the Toyota S800 the other night at my monthly model meet (I have the WRX, the EVO's, the Skylines, the Trueno, and many similar others in the stash already.)

Nicely done Luis! Satin is hard to get that smooth and you hit it out of the park! Doesn't need any graphics when the paint looks like this!

Hey Cameron, you could use BMF (as a mask) to do the trim around the windows, then just attach post-it note paper to the BMF edge and spray the black with your airbrush. I use it all the time

Thanks Jeremy! I didn't know they had a kit of this either until I saw it at a show/swap last year for a ridiculous price.......fast forward to last month's AMG meeting where I found it in a member's pile unopened for sale for a steal of a deal! I had to have it!! -

Thanks Bob.......it feels like it has been so long since I put something worthwhile up here! Good luck with your project. Looks better as a whole huh? -
Hey guys! Usually I would have done a WIP build thread....but lately when I have done that, I end up dragging it out too long so I decided to build first and get the build to the point of paint and THEN put some pics up..........so here is the latest build. Wanted to build a custom version of the rarely built Dodge Sidewinder. I picked this kit up at one of the last local meetings for cheap so I decided to use it as a slump buster build.........almost a big mistake! Anyone who has built this truck can tell you the body is VERY fiddly to get right......in fact, I have been mocking this up for the past week to get all the jambs to fit tightly. She is finally ready for paint!! WOO HOO! (I am thinking it will be a Indigo blue with bright pearl blue highlights.......should look good with the Hypersilver wheels!) The mods so far have been small (for me): The wheels/tires/brakes are from the diecast world. The wheels and tires came from a Maisto All Stars Camaro and the brakes are from a FD3S RX7 Jada diecast (both were broken and from a Goodwill). I had to narrow the rear track 5/8" and the front track 1/2" to fit the massive rollers! The front bumper was modified using the lower airdam from a Viper GTS. The mufflers are from the Saleen Speedster. The rear radius rods and coilovers were made by me from aluminum tubing and "anodized" with Sharpies. Still on the "to-do" list is the plug wires, throttle linkages and cables, painting the fuel cell and running fuel lines and brake lines, installing the rear coilovers, and then on to the black and red interior. Any comments are welcome! Enjoy the pics!!!

Nothing kills the modeling motivation like..........
Kennyboy replied to Jantrix's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
For me, going too deep into a design that involves building half (or more) of a new chassis/suspension, complete scratchbuilt transmission, blowing out the doors/trunk, and extensive body mods........ TOO much for one build WILL kill your drive to build altogether especially when there is so little time to spare given outdoor tasks and work of course. -
I agree as well! Great to see you all!!

What engine is this in the Dodge Daytona kit?
Kennyboy replied to wisdonm's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Not a 3.3 V6 in the Daytona.......they got the Mitsubishi 3.0 mini van engine. I remember the kit in question, it had a really weird transverse mounted dual quad V8 with a tiny transmission that made no sense whatsoever. -
I'll be there Nick.

This is looking great Zoltan!! This build spurred me to buy this kit.....it is sitting under my build table.
