  1. Rob: When you get the BRAT, can you let us know how the decals and tires look? How's the Pinto looking? I should have mine in a week or so (Canada is a bit slower to get stuff), so I'm starting to Jones pretty hard. Of course, I'm also Jonesing for Monzas, since I just picked up three old MPCs...
  2. I'm getting pretty excited. I think my '77 Pinto is due to hit my LHS soon. I ordered two; one for me, and one for my brother. I didn't want to fight him for it! I wonder, does the reissue BRAT come with pad-printed tires? White lettering the originals is going to suck...
  3. HOLY SH... That's one fantastic bike! It reminds me of the show bikes I used to see at the London (Ontario) Autorama back in the day (like '79 to '86)! Unreal work, my friend! Inspirational and nostalgic all at once!
  4. I do love a good mech, and I have a particular fondness for mech shows and designs from the ‘80s. Even though I didn’t grow up with a lot of mech shows, there’s something about the animes from this time frame that others just don’t have. One thing that was nice is that there weren’t ‘rules’ yet for how a Gundam, or even a non-Gundam should “look”. Before EVA’s “Stringbean Chic” approach, mecha could be chunky and still look cool. A perfect example are the mecha from Metal Armour Dragonar. While they have some Gundam in them, they are just as much equal parts Layzner and there’s a hint of “super robot” in there too. I was very lucky when I found pretty much every Dragonar kit had been reissued a few years ago, and go my local shop to order them for me. Since there hasn’t been much new in the world of mech kits that’s grabbed my attention lately, I decided I’d bust out a classic and review it! If you want to see how a Hero Mech was done in 1987, then check out my out of box review on the classic 1/144 Dragonar 1 + Lifter, below. In some ways, we’ve come a long way, but there’s still a quaint charm about this guy! https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/bandai-1-144-xd-01-dragonar-1-xdfu-01-lifter-1-oob/
  5. Thanks, Dann! I hope I don't disappoint! Despite it's many flaws, it's so cool to have a kit of Subaru that's NOT a WRX/STi. That's why I have my Rex Combi as well! Definitely get the reissue. We've got to support Round 2 and let them know we love the weird stuff!
  6. I'm glad there are people excited by this one; old and new! I hope Round 2 does some other oddball stuff, too. The BRAT was certainly out of left field. Now, we NEED California Sunshine, the Sneaky Pete and the MPC Rolling Thunder, if we're talking truck reissues... Round 2: You pickin' up on this? I would love to build all of those! SHOW TRUCKS RULE!
  7. Yeah, AMTs have some issues. I mean, so do MPCs and Revells and Monograms; nobody's perfect! However, this and the reissued Gremmy (the '76 in the art box) are horrible fitting kits. I actually think the Gremmy might be unbuildable. Well, I thought that when I got it years ago, but I might be able to tackle it now! I never built a lot of AMTs, but my uncle did. No wonder he gave up modelling!
  8. Well, it’s taken me a while, but I’ve finally managed to make some headway on the BRAT. I was very excited to get one, since I had turned one down (stupidly) years ago. I think it was a good thing, though, since I’ve built up my skills at cars in the meantime. And let me tell you… boy, do you need to be ready to leverage some skill against this thing! After a lot of work, modifying the body and interior pans, adding, reshaping and scribing parts, the body is pretty much ready for paint! However, it was a long haul. Given that the reissue is due out in a month or so, you can get a preview of what you’re up against here. It won’t likely have gotten any easier with age! Despite it all, though, the BRAT’s such an interesting, niche vehicle that I have to say it’s worth all the work. Check out the first build update below, and get ready for a workout! https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2019/05/22/brat-update-1-grind-that-body/
  9. Where's the '77 Pinto in that list? They showed it on the Round 2 video? Has anyone seen the decal sheet for this thing yet? I'm curious to know what I'm getting myself into! Thanks!
  10. Yes, I already have two Pintos reserved at my LHS! One is for me, one is for my brother. You must have known I'd be in for one or more of those! I'm one of those guys Alan was referring to I guess! No surprise that I want one, eh my friend? I love that it's the "Camaro-nosed" (yes, that's what it looks like to me) version. The early ones are kind of pretty; I want people to remember Pintos as horrible, dreadful and ugly little beaters; in other words, how they ended up! Let the full weight of corporate indifference and Governmental interference with automotive design be remembered, so they are not repeated! NEVER AGAIN! I'm glad the Brat's not out yet - I'm having enough trouble with the original, not sure I'm ready for a reissue yet!
  11. Is the new BRAT out now? I didn't realize that. I've got to get my tail behind me and get mine done! I wanted to be able to showcase it so people would know what they're getting into. Be warned... it's a kit that needs A LOT of work to work out nicely.
  12. Thanks guys! I agree the Civic was a functionally excellent vehicle, but for me, the little coal-bumpered econobeater was just not the way to go. My dad had a '76 Torino (Until 1991) and my mom bought an '85 Grand Marquis in the spring of '85, so I was use to big, rear-drive V8s with huge bumpers, chrome and all the good, old-school stuff. We had the Marquis until 2006, so anyone daring to say that American cars couldn't compete on reliability aren't entirely right. The Preludes are much better, as are the CRXs. At least they have some style; the Civic is just that; a cornflakes box with pretentions to being a rollerskate.
  13. Anyone who knows me knows I love loser cars. There’s a lot of things that can make a car a loser, though. We know that Pintos explode, and Vegas melt down, Citations fall apart and anything that’s a mid-to-late-70s Ford can slip a gear and run you over in your own driveway. However, there’s more to loserness than just that. For me, a lot of loserness just comes from being no fun. I am someone who likes to drive, and likes to drive cars that are interesting. I have no love of “Soulless personal transport modules” that blandly do little more than move you from point to point. For that reason, the mid-80s Honda Civics have always been losers to me. They had lots of ugly black plastic, and were these revvy, sputtery little econoboxes that even made Citations look stylish. Thus, when I had a chance to get one, I knew I had to have it for my loser car museum. While it might be mechanically sound, it’s still one of those cars that I hope we remember so we never go back to anything that bland again. Check out my build of the Tamiya ’85 Civic below, and tell me what you think. https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/cars/tamiya-1-24-1984-honda-civic/
  14. Wow. I have a tonne of Mbox kits, and other than the Skyraider that I had and gave to a friend (he was down on his luck and loved mulit-seat Able Dogs), I've got NONE of those. Impressive!
  15. Wow... I'd never heard of the Buccaneer, and then I was able to find a YouTube video of a training film for it! Shame it sucked so hard; it's actually a somewhat pretty aircraft! I tell ya, Brewster is the AMC of plane makers. No, that's not fair, because AMC tried...
  16. It’s not just loser cars that I like. I also like loser airplanes. For all the great aircraft that have served the US Navy over the course of its lifetime, there have also been a few… well… flops. The word “flop” really seems appropriate when you consider the Brewster F2A Buffalo. Sure, it was the first USN monoplane, so you have to cut it some slack… but still. I have several 1/72 Buffalos, like the Farpro Japan and ancient Revell. However, it will come as no surprise if you’ve ever visited my site, that I’ve always wanted the Matchbox. It’s been hard to find, and the first time I’ve seen one since I was a kid was this year at the HeritageCon show in Hamilton, Ontario. Of course I got it, and it won a poll I ran to see which was the kit most people wanted to see reviewed. So, check out this classic bit of Matchbox engineering, and remember, it doesn’t get any better than this! https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/matchbox-1-72-brewster-buffalo-oob/
  17. Glad you liked it, Mike! As for the wood effects, they're all yours! Let us know how it goes!
  18. One kind of modelling that has always been near and dear to my heart is “What If” stuff. I love project aircraft (particularly Luft ’46, but others too) and weapons of all sorts. Of course, What If can encompass a whole range of things, from Nazi UFOs to simply applying some different markings to a particular vehicle to represent it in an alternative service or capacity in which it was never found. The one kind of What If that’s pretty hard to come by, though, is a “real” What If. In other words, hardware that was developed, but only barely made it into prototype or limited production but didn’t get used. One example of this is the Bachem Natter; the Ba-349 was produced in small numbers, and was deployed in Operation Krokus. However, Natters never saw action (much to their pilots’ relief, I’m sure) and while a few were captured, nothing ever became of them. To go along with such a rare “real” What If, Brengun made another “real” What If kit – the wooden trailer/launch rail that was supposed to be used for launching the Natter! This is a really weird kit, and is, very unusually for me, a resin model. However, since I do like Natters, I thought it would be cool to build it. Check it out at the link below, and you’ll see how you can probably imagine a couple of other uses for it too! https://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/brengun-1-72-natter-trailer-launcher/
  19. Oh man! I agree totally! The '88 show was amazing! SO many Rhinos all in one place! I think it was 26 on the ground and 4 flying by to honour the 30th Anniversary. I've got that program and the poster for that show too! It was the first airshow my brother went to - he was 7 at the time - and he loved it too! Such good times... Really? The Walshes are still at it? I didn't know that.! Now I have to look up the Willow Run show! Thanks for the heads up, man!
  20. Hey Ed! Nice patch collection! That's awesome that you used to come to the London Air Show! I went with my dad and uncle, and later my brother, every year from 1981 forward. It was so cool to see all those planes, and I realize now how lucky I was to have had the chance to see my hometown's humble airport stuffed to the gills with legendary aircraft, so many of which are gone now. I, too, loved the Voodoos as show planes. Good and loud!
  21. Yeah?? Well... get in line! I've been looking for one of those for years! I can hope we'll see it again, now!
  22. This is good. Heller kits are a pain in the backside, with all their raised detail, (since I rescribe everything) but they ARE very well detailed and nicely proportioned. They had awesome subjects which make them second only to Matchbox (for me) in terms of quirkiness. Who else made a Lansen and J-21 in 1/72? What about the trainer Javelin? Yeah, baby... that's pure Heller! Don't forget they were doing early F-94s (the "B") before anyone else thought of it, too; WITH the wing guns, no less! I only have one bit of Heller Armour; a 1/72 Somua (I think it's 1/72, not 1/76). That's something cool too. Ah! Glad someone linked my Amiot! I have the Bloch 210 and Potez 540 I have to review sometime too. I doubt ANYONE will bother to kit them again! Long live Heller!
  23. Wow... That is cool! I've never seen the Revell boxing. I've seen a lot of other big Mboxes in Revell clothes (Victor, Do X, He-115) but never that one. It's an awesome looking bird, but I'd rather have it in 1/144; a bit easier on the shelf space! Howard: That's a lot of entries kit-wise, and a tonne of paid admissions. At $15 a head, the Museum did well. If it helps keep the Lanc and the rest flying, then it's money doubly well spent!
  24. Hey Mike! You are right - I've still (amazingly) never seen an Mbox Mossie. It seems unbelieveable, but it's true. It's a shame that guy has never been back. My brother has a Privateer. it's a huge, but very cool, kit. Has Revell Germany ever re-released that one? I saw that armoured car on the CSM website. It looked really neat. Those old "Model T" armoured cars make me laugh! They're so frail, but so aggressive at the same time. Like a Chihuahua on steroids!
