Thanks. I had to redo a lot of it, as i did it first by eye looking at real pics, for size of items based on the distance from top of the dash to the roof lining....but then when i placed them into the kit they were way off size, way too big. The distance wasnt scaled down the same. Im happy with my finished item. The next one i do will be quicker but better, and i might make a few copies in resin

thats a idea with the bits. I added a bottle as you can see. I reworked lots of the electronic stuff, and i added a small LCD screen that they use for replays i have seen in pics. Still more to do....The body is painted and varnished and just waiting for the decals, NYPD HP to arrive. I checked the 3 wheel options, and asked people what they thought looked best, showing a couple of real pics, all but one said they liked the chrome real one, so i went to use that but then noticed the way the spokes sit, shaped inwards are not the same as the real thing. gutted

Dumbest Question Ever: Weathering Pigments?
English Jules replied to clovis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
i use hairspray. I am doing a AMT dodge van at the moment, to be a rusty old run around. I aint put the pics on a photo share yet. but if anyone is on FB they can see the whole build process here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154139972875571.1073741889.857305570&type=1 -

please stop it now lol. cant wait!. Going to be a while before i can afford Im used to resin being a military modeller so its not all new to be, although would be my first resin car build, although for 10 years or so had a nice Challengers R/T body and bonnet waiting to be done. over here the AMT 70's Ford goes for about $40 or so, seen them at $16 on US ebay so that might be the way to go, save up and grab a few more kits from the seller towards end of the year..

I was shocked nothing was done even for a quick conversion. Spent the last 2 days going through all my books, reading up on things, inc the A38 police package etc. Also at the moment, some of the 20 odd police and sheriff guys by AMerican Diorama that came the other day, i have already started changing and primered. I want to back date some to late 70's and other periods.

i love 'Der Trabi'. Spent a lot of time in east Germany myself, seen many of them. I cant stand the VW Beetle (or Kaefer as the Germans know it as)....never been a fan of old VW's, campers etc....hate them. Yours looks nice, reminds me of the good times over there! Prost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

theres a guy who bumps his own stuff every couple of hours on a facebook modelling page.....annoys me. His work isnt that good at all, and when people give him tips etc he just says hes the best and everyone else is wrong.....i made one comment that the soldiers ww2 helmets he had sat on a tank at the back, that was going down a very rough track road would have fallen off etc and he said no they wouldnt......i have been a military modeller for a long time, i look at hundreds of pics for each project i plan, and im still learning new stuff every day, but just about everyone would know a tank blasting down a rough track at full speed like he had, if it wasnt tied or strapped down the items wouldnt be there by the end of the track. Offered him painting tips etc but wont listen....his loss i guess

looks good. i use 4 different colours for rust, from orange to brown, mixed in different ratios. I use hairspray to hold it in place. Im doing at the moment the AMT Dodge 911 Ambulance as a old piece of junk that stills being used.

ah thanks, i had noticed on a few US cop shows in the last week they just plant their right foot down and that was it. I think over here now, traffic cops are using BMWs and they could be autos. I never liked driving autos, until i had one few years ago, when i picked up a mid 90s used 5 series BMW touring with 200,000 miles and went on a long trip around Europe, i had done the same trip in a manual one and the auto was quite nice, kickdown was good. Not sure i would like one as a cop car though but i guess a modern auto isnt too bad. I picked up a 97 Cherokee jeep a few months ago with a manual box, i dont think i would like the auto box as its not a powerful engine at all, lots of torque but no horsepower being the turbo diesel one. I am surprised though that muscle and mopar like the new round of Chargers, Challengers and Camaro's are auto though. Thought they would be most popular rather than a auto

Sevre spinal injury when i was 24, so 18 years ago, broke my back in 4 places. Horrendous back ache, even worse when damp (in UK thats just about all the year round). One destroyed knee, crunches and gives way, stairs etc are a pain. Dislocated hip that i was born with, just aches a little. thats about it, so often cant sleep cos of the pain. Its how i got into making models as a adult as not much else i could do to pass time after my accident

After looking at hundreds of pics, comparing my AMT Monaco and my Yodel M/F decided to have a crack at sculpting some and then getting someone whos good with resin to do them. Either the 18 holes drilled, otherwise a small decal. As i was looking around for pics, come across the idea of a new steering wheel, and the column, gear lever and the small display showing the gear you are in. Seems a TUFF wheel was very simular to the AMT Monaco one, while the one in my AMT Rescue 911 ambulance is pretty close to the other, and i can tweak that a little to make it better. The tyres will be hardest part. As a military modeller, i dont mind resin tyres, and i prefer them over rubber. In resin i can get the nice little bulge at the bottom. I started last week the AMT Monaco as a LAPD Fury, so will resize the Yodel 1 piece grill and fit it for the Monaco, i know the rear light units are different, will play around with that later. Looking at doing various in car radio/CB, speakers and mics etc. I have some Classic Hobby resin lights and sirens, which i now know are done by policecarmodels but the quality is poor, full of holes in the resin. Also want to make the handles for the inner part of the lights on the pillar. Surprised me all along that they were never a feature of the cop car kits. It all started with the wheels and chrome hubs, but as a military modeller as i said i always try to get the correct as poss detail and if i going to do wheels/hubs then i might as well see what else needs doing :-)

thanks guys, useful info. I would love to build many more of my AMT Monaco's, play around with the side of the body long strips that vary from one to another. I was awake late into the early hours with bad ache, so i was looking online, came across some pics from a guy called Dave Neuman. Some nice models and photos on this link. http://copcardotcom.fotki.com/miscellaneous_photo/modelers_bench-1/dave_neuman/dsc01094.html

I think i should be ok now, a friend has the road runner wheels, and i will shape down the ones in the AMT Monaco, which see to match the style for a 74 vehicle, although a little rough around the edges. I will see if the drilled holes can be done into a resin hubcap otherwise i think a small decal would be the best bet. Im going to see what the Yodel Fury grill looks like on the Monaco also, see about making some in resin. The steering wheel from memory is wrong in the AMT kit, will check out the Yodel kit. I got a reply from that Scenes unlimited guy, quick response as i still not got a reply from Jbot in well over a week now. Some great resin items and when i am a bit better off financially off i am sure getting a few items at least

Import Duty?
English Jules replied to Stuntman Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well lots of ebay sellers state they will NOT put gift or change the value..... Some will, esp in China etc. LIke i said i got stung for the 5 Lindberg Chargers, not a lot extra, i guess about $20 but its 20 i didnt really have to spare. These are for me to build... I had bought a lot of American Diorama cop and sheriff figures, asked him to put a lower value and tick gift.... -
thanks. going to be a pain in the ass, might have to try to make some and cast in resin. I had thought of using the AMT kits crome caps, smoothed to the correct shape and drill holes, or at least decals so represents dots. I am working on a car now, but i would have done so many more if the wheels and tyres were upto the job. I looked at the Yodel ones i had and year not quite good enough.... Suprised no one has made some, i have spoken to some other UK cop car fans, and they also say they have the AMT MOnacos, but never made due to no good wheels and tyres.

Im involved with a model build, of a RAF 70's Jet fighter, EE Lightning..for injured ex servicemen here the charity H4H. So far raised just over £1000 Its been around the world with bits of the build by lots of people in each country. Anyway the person posting it back to the UK, thought to himself this must now be worth a couple of thousands $'s....so thats what he wrote on the customs form......................................and you can guess what happened next.
