  1. geeshhh....I didn't want to hear that....I hate when things like that happen. They never happen to me anymore,,,,,that's because I finish so little these days...lol....oh, also, when you mentioned about doing the car white as the box shows, a nice choice, but the green really sets it apart. I will get a can of Tamiya Emerald spray next stop to my LHS, now seeing a piece built using it, the possibilities are endless. Don't feel bad about the body mount's either....I recall a very unfortunate occasion in the early 80's when I finished a 68/69 MPC super stock Cuda that I was well pleased with after a couple of weeks building, then, the next evening in moving my coffee cup from my bench to add one more thing to the Cuda,,,,,proceeded to drop it on the floor then watching the Hemi and all else leap across the room.....I still haven't found everything for it ...lol.......the Ace...
  2. .....that's great info about this, and regardless of the shortcoming's of the kit you mention, that one looks terrific. Might grab one to have one, but I'll probably just look at yours and bypass the build problem's...lol....lol........thanks for getting back to me...best Tony, the Ace....
  3. .....I think Fred Cady did them way back originally.....but I also believe other decal printer's made set's some year's back as I recall.... the Ace....
  4. ...the Sock it to Me has an Ansen or another brand that have a textured center, not really right for you. If you check out the wheels in the new or old issue of the MPC 60 Vette, and find they will do, I can send you a pair,,, no need to waste bread on a kit....let me know...the Ace...//// should even be a kit review here about the said Vette kit...
  5. .....Lets have a round of applause for Vince Nelson, known as VINTAGEDRAGCRAZY as I just received a mint sealed kit not 10 minutes ago from the new ' Pay it Forward ' trade thread on our forum. This is one stand up member sending immediately and packing the kit just perfectly.............THANK YOU, VINCE...A-1 forum member......the Ace....
  6. My stash of wheel's hasn't anything exactly as pictured, but as mentioned prior the MPC 60 Vette Astro's are about as close to a match that I can come up with.....the Ace...
  7. .........Both the build and color look just great,,, beautiful example of this kit expertly finished. The green and gold lettering combo are perfect together as well.......tell me, why were you going to toss it back in the box,,,, does this kit have building problem's....I ask as I have considered buying one.....thanks, and great work, the Ace....
  8. The only thing close that I know of and might do the trick are the ' Astro' chrome wheels in the newer Round2 MPC 60 Corvette kit....you may have to open up the openings a touch for the look you want on the rears. I will look thru my other rim's to see what I have, but nothing except what I mentioned above comes to mind.....the Ace....
  9. .........like many said here , run the bottle under some very hot water a couple of minutes, then try it,,, and better yet twist the cap while wearing some rubber gloves ....that works more times than not....however, on some occasions when I'm not winning the fight I go with this solution....first, turn the hot water tap off, then remove the rubber gloves....next, using your right foot, depress the black plastic pedal on the nearest trash can, and at close range, fire that bottle deep into the bottom of it,,,, then lastly grab your car keys and head for the nearest hobby shop to buy a fresh bottle...lol............the Ace...
  10. actually, the car on that Hot Rod cover is their 1968 Roadrunner , and that car was the one with the ' cloud '....the Ace...
  11. Hi Ron, actually, reading your story bring's back several memories about this topic,,, big block Ford headers from way back....I have owned many car's over the year's equipped with header's and other speed equipment, but not a big cube Ford motor. However, several friend's and such did. I totally relate to what you stated in recalling looking under the hood's of many 390, 427, and CJ car's that ran at the four different strip's I used to frequent. Shock tower's cut, hammered, torched, and pipe's bent into every configuration just to find fit somehow....but here is a story, a true one that guy's around here remember that are still with us. A local shop called RACE CAR SERVICES was in business around my area from the early 70s into the mid 80s as I recall....the owner, unfortunately no longer with us, was a drag racer that had year's of experience dating way back even then, and he liked Ford muscle even though he built and tuned all makes and was very good at it. Anyhow, he had a menu board at the front desk because back in those day's popular item's like shifters, tach's, trac bars, etc had a standard price for installation....and so did headers.... His price to install headers was 65.00, which back then was expensive, because I got my first set installed for 40.00 by another hi - po shop and that was painful back then....my point....a guy came into Race Car's shop one day in 1973 driving a mint yellow 70 Torino 429 SCJ.....he brought a new set of Hooker's with him and asked the owner to install them. Sure, call me tomorrow afternoon to arrange pick up time, was his answer. Now, he had installed dozens of set's on Nova's, Swinger's, GTO's, Chevelle's and bla bla bla....but NEVER one of these......the car was there 3 day's after he figured out the engine had to be bumped, a bunch of front suspension was apart everywhere, and then the banging and welding started......he never charged 65.00 bucks to do header's for those again...lol...lol..........thought you may enjoy that one......best, the Ace...
  12. Well, I am not familiar with that chassis as far as building or owning that kit, but I think my suggestions still may fit with some work.....also, a possible set, not certain if they will fit.....are the ones in the AMT 66 GALAXIE kits, not the 65 as it has none,,,,I spent quite some time filing and fitting them properly for the intended kit mentioned even though the build is not finished, the headers look great....But not sure if they are a win in your application................the Ace,, n
  13. .....the best route is one of the following.....Johan pro stock Maverick/ Comet Ford big block headers are the best IMO, but hard to get now, compared to years ago when I was building lot's of Ford super /stockers when those kit's were plentiful and cheap.....anyhow, if you can't grab a set, then the AMT 68 Shelby Cobra has a nice useable set too, and every issue new and old should have them,,,, but keep in mind either set here I mention will need some fitting, filing, and possibly slight bending in some spot's.....hope this help's you out some, and good luck..the Ace...
  14. ....I sure like this, Bruce....and I know what you mean about the kit being a little tough to get everything together to ones liking....I have 2 original MPC 56/57 Corvette '8 in 1' kit's I have been itching to build, and seeing yours give's me that inspiration....nice work there....best, the Ace...
  15. Yes, but I'll bet that you eventually will see a flip nose if the upcoming 75 annual sells well, and it probably will...the Ace...
  16. .......with some of the cars I remember seeing back in the day, and the detail of restorations on a caliber of this CV as you mention, I totally agree.....I asked a local friend about this last evening, He mentioned that his cousins car, a 70 Coronet 500 with a 383 automatic had the grill striping, and that car was bought new by him.....anyhow, that's all I can add from my original thoughts....the Ace.....
  17. ok, but did you know that some 1970 dealer brochure pics showed some that way......strange, I owned a 69 340 Swinger and 68 Road runner, so I'm no expert on 70 Coronets on trim and accent .....however it's a mystery as to why the dealer cat's show some like the car in the picture here.....very strange.......the Ace...
  18. I knew I had seen that red grill accent before....even though I was told it never existed....strange, unless it may be a Hemi only deal.....the Ace....
  19. ....There are resin ones made that are far better.....however if that isn't the way for you, in the past I have built 3 or 4 MPC pro stock Vegas and made my own 3 or 4 link set ups, loop, and cut out the shocks and removed the diff cover, to add a Dana 60 cover as well. They can be improved, but it is quite a bit of work. the drive shaft should be cut out too, and replaced after fitting up a fresh one......hope some of this helps a bit...the Ace...
  20. I built one years ago, the MPC version, and found it a great kit in almost every way.....I would build another one at one point too.....nice kit in general.....the Ace....
  21. Nick, I deleted my post probably as you posted, as I also checked on this a moment ago, and was thinking of another vehicle. my mistake....the Ace...........a 1970 Dodge ad shows a 70 R/T Coronet in green with the red in the grill.....guess it never went into production, but knew I'd seen it somewhere...
  22. ....I have used mild dish soap, even the generic stuff from dollar stores to wash out brushes for years now. It cleans out residue as you mention, and freshens the brush once again.....great tip ......the Ace...
  23. no problem, Mike.....it's worth the wait regardless.........keep us posted when fresh info comes your way, please...best, the Ace...
  24. Hi Mike, and thanks for that info.....tell us, is there a release date you know of on this little gem.... I know you have close ties to Round2, and I really think this kit will be a winner for them, to say the least....best, the Ace......
  25. ....here too, it's actually a warm 70 degree's or more.....if I had some ambition I'd go outside and paint a body or something...lol...the Ace...
