Mark are you on wastebook at all? There is some great vintage nascar groups on there.
-
That cars has been restored. It did run at Lemans back when. But that engine shot looks pretty typical of Fords back then.
-
Forgot to add above that I had to build a package shelf for this car. Looking closer at pictures all that metal remained intact on this car. Got a fuel cell made roll bar door and interior painted

It’s too bad the 366 Pontiac Motor wouldn’t stay together. That coupled with the bad aero at the tail end of the Grand Am killed the Pontiac NASCAR effort
-
That’s a better explanation than mine.
-
The blocked were slightly different too. But for all practical purposes a Cleveland was like a Boss 302 headed Windsor.
-

The cylinder heads. Are completely different on a Cleveland. They look like a Boss 302 head. A Windsor head looks like a 289 head.

I’m pretty proud of my cobbled rollbar. Made from MPC Johan and Polar Lights parts. The frt down bars are the only pieces I had to make.
-
Mark it would have been a Cleveland engine. I don’t have any pictures but it would look like the engines in the later NASCAR Ford kits. The valve covers would not have been Ford Motorsport like the amt kit used. I just sand the fins and writing off and paint them silver.

Also built up the hood edges. Hood was way narrow. And built the engine cage. Engine and radiator test fit again

Got this thing de trimmed. Opened the rear wells a bit and flared them out slightly. Also pulled the bottom rear of the rockers out in frt of the rear tires.

Ok so you did the same as I did with a Reventlow Scarab. I scratchbuilt a brass tube space frame modified the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of a Strombecker Scarab body then got lost on making a DeDion tube rear suspension . So it sits 20 years later. At least it’s in the company of others in the same boat.
-
I’ve never seen that kit.
-
I don’t know Dave I’ve been known as the undisputed king of unfinished projects. I’ve got models that have been half done for decades.
-
Since I’m stupid or something I always have about 6 cars going at any time. I switch off between them. This one is a pretty simple build aside from rollbar and interior stuff.

Thanks Mark As long as I stay focused it will be cool.

Capped off the top of the frame rails. Engine test fit. Had to move the oil pan sump to the rear. Rivs had an odd center sump.
-
Cut the control arm and spring perches from the old axle and put them on the new one.Quick mock-up for stance.
-
Drilled the spring pockets through the frame and floor. This will lower the rear even without cutting springs. Added these spacers. They have a smaller I’d than the holes I drilled so they limit the springs from falling through. They also look like spring pockets for screwjacks.
-
Progress pictures. Had to shorten the frame and floor at the rear. Narrow the frame rails by the tires. Hog out the wheelhouses too. Added a 9”Ford rear. Made a frt and rear firewalll. The 442 firewall was too tall and had too much stuff molded in.
