It's a 48 year old kit that was a converted promo. At least the exhaust are separate. It seems okay to me. Can't compare it to the Revell 1966 GTO.

Nice conversion to HT

Impalow, your Ford kits are from 1967. First year of clear wrapping and $1.70 price. Nice items, I don't remember them. Almost like a Ford dealer item (except for the 37 Chevy)?
-
Only other item maybe deleted is the large fender skirts. That is a major '60s custom item.

Dave, you are correct. I don't know why I thought it was a 312. Only complete chromed engine of the group? Oh well, 5 out of 6 isn't too bad. Not only do the engines interchange, but you get 2 engines per kit. A lot of possibilities those old AMT kits had for the builder. This 39/40 Ford is worth buying. A fun kit to build.

I bought the 1968 Biscayne from MCW. Close to Modelhaus quality, but no chrome. I encountered some warp, as I have on other resin. At $40, the value is pretty good.

This kit came out in 1960. This means, unless you really care about a specific box, there are tons of these kits available. Also, the moon hubcaps lost favor in the '70s when mags replaced them. Another interesting thing is that the engine mount pins in the frame allow engine swapping from other AMT kits; Buick engine-40 Ford coupe Olds engine- 39/40 sedan Chevy 283- 32 Ford coupe Hemi-32 Ford roaster 312 TBird- 34 Ford 389 Pontiac- 36 Ford

AMT Prestige '63 Corvette convertible
Bob Ellis replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hahaha, we are on a crusade about the axle! The prestige issue is a really great kit with a lot of extra stuff. The next release of the '63 convertible was missing the removable hardtop and wheelcovers. Probably other stuff too. Remember, at $15 in 1987, this kit was 2X more expensive the usual AMT kits. Despite how good the kit is, they can be found cheap on eBay. That is good for the builders, not the collectors. -
This Mustang was originally a '70 Mustang by Palmer Scale Models. It got updated like the Challenger did. The plain chassis is really a copy of the AMT '69 Mustang annual kit. AMT designed that kit chassis like a promo; 1 piece. It's amazing how well Palmer copied the AMT. If you ever find a Palmer '70 Mustang, buy it. It makes a decent beginning to a Boss 302/429 in 1/25 scale. The other Bosses are the '70 MPC and '70 Monogram/Revell. The Mustang, Challenger and Corvette are the only 1/25 Palmer kits ever made. Not to be confused with those other horrible 1/32? multi-piece caricatures that box tops promised cars that could not be delivered in the box.

A good snip will cut brass or soft steel. I stuff the wheel back holes with strips of Evergreen if the rod too small or squish. -

T408 Street Shaker had chromed reversed baby moons in place of the chromed mags. The mags were un-chromed with the other body parts. T408s chrome set was pretty bare except it did have the display disc brake and fire extinguisher. -

The is the first re-issue of the annual AMT 1964 Impala HT sold in 1969. Some call it the Woodward Ave issue. Kit T222 has all the original parts except the battery box and grain of wheat bulbs . -

Very nice work

Nice work. I forgot about face's Corvette. It's funny how the A-Team never gets caught and they always drove noticeable vehicles!

Wally, if it is the AMT body (not MPC) and it is a '63 with a backup light in the center, it must be the early Street Rods issue. Mine was molded in white plastic though, not black. Most early A163 box tops state 25th anniversary on the left with Street Rods on the right. Only the 1973-74 kits had advertising on the box bottom, something else that differentiates early 163 boxes from late ones. The reason early A163s have a center back up light on a 1963 body is because AMT converted it from the last version, a 1967. It is not clear to me when AMT figured out the mistake. I would be curious if any 63s from Lesney or ERTL had this mistake. Can you post a photo of the body with the incorrect backup light?

AMT Prestige '63 Corvette convertible

The Prestige Corvette kit has a lot of good parts. I believe the TV camera was part of a parts pack AMT used to sell. It is worth buying for the wheel covers and 2 extra tops. Last of the whitewall tires from ERTL, though some are mis-printed. -

I have to re-check, but I believe the original '63 annual hood and the ERTL era '63 hood do not interchange. Sometimes if you look inside the model body, you can see the mold lines (like veins and arteries) that feed the styrene through the tool. If they are the same, it is the same tool. If, not, there is more than one tool. I am sure that the original question concerning the '64 is as the following. It is the exact same tool on the '64, from 1964 until 2015. -
I opened up a bag of potato chips, and inside were a lot of '58 Lincoln promos. Actually, the potato chips were flatter.

Yes Art, that one (and all the next re-issues too?) are missing a firewall. Isn't that a big screw-up to forget the firewall? You can tell immediately the difference of the modified Craftsman '63 body (1988 and later) against the original annual '63 body. The tail lights are filled in (no red lenses) and the lip on the body and the hood are missing to hold the metal hood clip. The '64 firewall approximates the original '63 perfectly.
