Where is this kit now?

1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit
Bob Ellis replied to W-Machine's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wish they would include the convertible up-top. -
I had a 1969 AMT Riviera that the frame was molded with voids. It happens. The question is where was quality control?
-
I was referring to the kits. It seemed like AMT Torinos and TBirds were the same in 70-71, just different boxes. Not sure if AMT bothered to modify the tool.

The AMT 1967-1969 and AMT 1970-1971 Thunderbird kits are totally different. The level of detail is lower on the '70-71s because it really was designed as a promo only (added and engine deleted engine plate). Similar to the '71-73 Mustangs and Pintos. Is there really a difference between a '70 and '71 AMT Thunderbird?

It looks like Heller did a nice job on the K2 seat. It is a one year only with the piping dropping on the front of the seat. In 1973 the piping was horizontal across the whole seat. Those cylinder heads are 1969 to 1972; there are 4 vertical supports viewed from the side. It may be possible to mix parts and use the necessary MPC K0 parts on a Heller to make a better K0. Just a thought though I know it is a big expense.

The Heller may be entirely superior in some detail respects, but whether it is accurate is another question. The CB750 was made over a 10 year period and it changed from beginning to end. The picture on the Heller box looks like a composite of a 1969, 1970 and a 1971. Maybe even a 1972. The picture MPC box and AIRFIX are 1969s, for sure. The Heller picture shows many inaccuracies. I would like to see what the kit pieces look like. If the kit is like the picture on the box, it is not worth the $78 they are asking. I have owned 1:1 CB750s; 3 1969s and 15 others of different 1971-1978 years. I am sure about the details as I have restored these bikes from ground up. It would be good if somebody proved me wrong and the parts inside the Heller box are true to the actual bike. Pictures?

Nice job. The black looks good on it.

New item: GM Door Handles--> Now Mopar!
Bob Ellis replied to Chief Joseph's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Joseph, you are welcome for the support. The product is great. The packaging is super too, that protects the door handles. -
Steve , that's a nice Beaumont. Model Car Garage has the grille, right? I am curious about the front seats with correct backs.

It is strange that the '68 windshield is still in the kit. ERTL removed the vent glass from the hardtop. I liked the '68 glass to do a '68 convertible. The turn signals are on the annual, Countdown and Matchbox issues. ERTL opened up the bumper in the '90s and forgot the turn lights.

I just ordered some resin parts from them. Due to the death in the family and increased volume from posted shut down date, they quote up to 3 month delivery.

I just got my package of Joseph's door handles. Wow, they are really nice. Shipped when he said too. Now I can make some 4dr cars out of 2drs. Thanks for the very nice items. -
Hendrix Mfg. -- Recommendations..?
Bob Ellis replied to Ramfins59's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have the stated above '58 Ford from Hendrix, though I think it came through Model Roundup. It is pretty much a perfect copy of the original AMT kit, less kit type glass. It has vacuformed glass. I might use the glass from the AMT 57 Ford? All the screw posts and characteristics of the original kit are there. You could re-screw it. It has whitewall tires with nice inserts. Takes a little trimming to get the wheel cover in the tire. The body was straight, no thicker than the original (the original '58 AMTs are way thicker than todays kits). Had a couple of pinholes to fill. I think it cost me $60. Except for chrome issue, really not worse than a Modelhaus resin. You have to alcad or send out to be chromed. -
Interesting why it never got fixed

You are very brave cutting that grille. Don't think I could have done it.

There are a lot of options to the builder of this '69 Chevelle convertible kit. I think the '69 Cutlass is a great choice to update the old Chevelle kit chassis. Another option is cut 4 scale inches off the front half (forward of the firewall) of the new '70 AMT Monte Carlo kit. The Chevelle wheelbase is 112 versus 116 on the Monte Carlo which is a modified A body. I guess it depends on how much kits cost and whether you have a Cutlass or Monte in your basement for parts. My observation is the '69 Cutlass is cheaper to buy? About the 375 hp engine; I thought I was a matter of aluminum heads on a 396. Paint detail might imply that engine?

I think Meobius has to do models never done before to have a business plan that succeeds. There are millions of '69 Chevelle kits out there already and I figure that would hurt the volume of business needed to make it go. Most guys have already made the '69 Chevelle better, or happy with the way it is. Round2 has done a great job making it possible to buy the older kits. If it wasn't for them, the tools would be left out in the weather like they were in Baltimore after Lesney/Matchbox had AMT.

Model kit subject builders block
Bob Ellis replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jantrix, good post about parts. I do the same. I buy kits to rob parts for my projects. -
Model kit subject builders block
Bob Ellis replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have about 20 projects going at the same time. I go back and forth depending on how I feel. There is some truth; buy while you can because this industry runs in batches and you never know when it will be back. I remember in the 1972-75 era it was impossible to find some AMT Trophy models. I just bought 4 1979 AMT F350s because I doubt it will return soon. I have kits that I may never build, but I have them if I feel like it. -
