1957 Chevrolet Bel Air from Return to Macon County
Bob Ellis replied to Atmobil's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I think you are doing a great job replicating the car from the movie. I find it interesting the movie claims this is Summer 1958. I can't imagine a 1 to 11/2 year old Chevy looking like this. I remember seeing cars like this but it was mostly in the mid '60s when they were relegated down to teenager use. Things like 3 in the tree shifting moved to the floor. Even up until the '70s the interiors of cars started ripping and falling apart after 5 years of hard use. I am guessing that using Tuck and Roll was to replace a beat interior? I like seeing people model all the details of a movie car. The seats and door detail is very nice. -
Monty, I believe you are correct about the AMT Mustang too. After Mach Won, never seen again.

Finally got some primer on this '61 Corvette. Just a couple places to touch up the body work. These head lights are more to size than the later issues of the AMT '62 Corvette. The headlights are some that I bought from JoAnn Fabrics and shaped and polished smooth.

That Revell 1969 Mustang was converted into a 1970. After that, it became a funny car. Any body know if the tool is still around?

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air from Return to Macon County

Which '57 Chevy model kit are you using for this project? It seems pretty interesting. Good point about multiple cars used in filming. I think I heard Two Lane blacktop had 3 cars used for filming. -
Resin Casting, First Attempt.
Bob Ellis replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't you need vacuum for the mold and pressure for the curing of the resin? -
This is a beautiful model. Great detail.

GTX, when I saw this, it reminded me of the Revell '57 Eldorado Brougham. I think the floor/chassis should be cut to be made separate from the sides. This way, the sides and the interior floor can built separately. This is how I plan to build the Eldorado.

R&R 1970 Impala Wagon
Bob Ellis replied to davysmodels's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Walid, Unfortunately some of those R&R wagons disappeared fast after Ray died. You might try the Facebook groups or ebay to see if one shows up. If you are not already a member of Station Wagons in Scale group on Facebook, I encourage you to join. Somebody there might help you. -
Mustang Cobra II decals?
Bob Ellis replied to atomicholiday's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That's the complicated 1978 version of the COBRA II. The '76 and '77 are much more simple. -

I think a couple of photos are in Resinrealm site. Since Ray has been dead a couple of years, or so, I doubt any are available. You can email Steve Kohler. -
This is an incredible project. At least SHIELD didn't use a '61. That would have made the project more work.

Dave, the thought crossed me, should the conversion have started with the new Revell '62 Corvette and the old Revell '59/'60 Corvette? If I made another, I would proceed that way. But I will finish this one since it is about done.

Ironically, the Revell '60 Corvette is really a '59, despite what the bumper says. AMT called their '60 a '59, so Revell called their '59 a '60. Confusing as that is, the Skip's Fiesta is the '80s issue of the '70s version I used. The seat patterns are the key. But I swapped the '59 seats for the '62 seats and it looks like you did too Dave. I fit the whole AMT '62 bumper, grille and valance to the Revell. I found it to be easier with less filing. I had to add some Evergreen Styrene as the AMT valance was too short along the side. I find it interesting the chrome headlight bezels molded in clear plastic even with the Skip's issue. I rough sanded the whole bottom of the AMT interior tub to seat onto the Revell frame that also serves as a interior floor. It is a little bit of more filing to get the AMT interior sides/doors to fit as they were a little wide. I could only use the real portion of the rear trunk floor from the original kit trunk. My biggest challenge was the issue of the wide Revell rear axle and narrow rear wheel well of the AMT Revell combo. This is a result of Revell designing a kit to use very narrow tires. Unless you have the original Revell 1959 kit with the narrow plastic tires, you have to be creative. My solution was to narrow the axle. I made new plastic axle locators with Evergreen. If I had to do it all over again, I would have replaced the rear axle and not modify the Revell one. I used steel piano wire to hinge the trunk lid. I left the plastic Revell hood hinge as is. I was getting tired re-engineering everything.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T?
Bob Ellis replied to Mr. Moparman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To me, the 1970 Charger is the most beautiful of the 3 years. For some reason, Revell put all their eggs in the 68/69 basket (because of the Drag cars?) The fact that Missing Link stopped making resin copies indicates to me that there is no market for more, or enough business to make it worthwhile to continue. I hope maybe someday Revell might do the '70. -
1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM,,quality questions?
Bob Ellis replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The X-el promo is the one you want. Johan acetate 1958 originals are bananas now, and they smile a lot too. Plan on dropping $50-100 for a good styrene X-el from the '80s. The Revell is as low as $12 at shows. It's apples and oranges in many ways. Low cost, multi-piece less precise and Cadillac Eldorado versus expensive, one piece nice shape and a Fleetwood. -
1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM,,quality questions?
Bob Ellis replied to gtx6970's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just picked up this kit at a show; $12 It's a good starting point for a massive '50s car. -
Doesn't Revell keep releasing it in a different box?

Yes, have this one cast by the link too.
