  1. Wow, Tommy! Hope we can see a build thread on the '57 Buick - that must have been a bear to create the master; I'm assuming it's a shortened Roadmaster promo with the roof borrowed from a Jo-Han '57 Olds. It's still the only game in town for that car and I've been wanting to build one because it was the first car I ever rode in.
  2. Aurora Demolition Demon '56 Ford (real pricey now) Aurora Meat Wagon Packard ambulance (also pricey) Aurora Alfa Romeo (tough to find for some reason; used to see 'em all over) AMT '61 Ford Sunliner (not too tough to find since it was reissued later in the '60s; AMT dropped the ball losing the molds) AMT Craftsman '59 Continental Jo-Han '67 Chrysler convertible promo (dark green) (played with to death) Jo-Han '69 Cadillac promo (light brown) (also played with to death) I've got an incomplete one if you need it; I'll send a PM once I dig it out and inventory it.
  3. Maybe he was deadheading with an empty trailer? That would also answer Dennis Weaver's question, "How does he go so fast?" In the original short story which appeared in the April 1971 Playboy (see, you can read it for the articles!), there was a big explosion at the end. You can hear Stephen Lang reading it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJcaNXymg74
  4. Just finished a test piece of side trim from a '58 Ford which I want to use for my '56 Plymouth. I rubbed down a piece of aluminum foil over the door trim, lifted it off and added Bondic - it seems to have worked quite well. The foil didn't stick to it strongly but it could be re-foiled using adhesive.
  5. Sounds like you and I are on the same wavelength with un-Sport Furies. I just now finished attaching the '64 kit package shelf to the USA Oldies '62-but-really-'64 interior, and test-fitted the dash - looks like it will work. Guess I'll do the Dodge next now that I'm on a roll. I should mention that the promo/Oldies interior is 1/8" shallower than the kit interior, and a bit shorter in front (although the dash hides it).
  6. On the lower right corner of the instructions there's a wiring diagram for lights - are they in the kit?
  7. Quite a few here; looks like they used some Jo-Han promos or kits as well as Monogram '58 T-birds in various guises, plus an AMT or Monogram '36 Ford, and even the Silhouette: http://www.imcdb.org/movie_57790-Thunderbirds.html Note a couple cars are misidentified; check the descriptions...
  8. I remember that article - sharp job; nice to see it in living color again!
  9. Wait a minute - weren't we recently talking about a kit that had a short run, and was believed lost/irrevocably modified, whose parts may have unexpectedly turned up, as a possible 2016 release? Hmmm...
  10. Must have been Revell - I had a couple '60s era Revell kits that were clear underneath.
  11. Here's the original thread:
  12. Did they have the tooling for the glass as well? I'd like to see a photo of this test shot if you could post one. You can't really build an accurate coupe from the convertible kit as-is; the interior isn't correct - the promo tool has the right one with the package shelf and ventilation louvers.
  13. Not too bad; it was molded with a separate roof and chrome B-pillars. The windshield frame had sun visors. I wonder if they were jumping the gun to make a convertible but it turned out there wouldn't be a 1/1 until '62 - did Chevy plan a '61 vert but had to delay it? I went ahead and built mine as a phantom convertible using the top boot from the IMC '48 Ford:
  14. R&R '59 Chevy convertible top, cheap, for my '59 Pontiac - figure since it's a vacuform part it can tweaked to fit without much grief.
  15. That was a '59; I had one as a kid but I don't remember if there was a top boot in it. Funny they didn't modify the '59 tooling to make the '60.
  16. MPC '32 Chevy panel truck? I hope I hope I hope...
  17. Green Christmases in Chicago seem to happen about as often as white ones, according to the Tribune - I just hope for no big storms in February or March when we're all sick of looking at it!
  18. Got some Bondic today - looking forward to experimenting with it!
  19. That Vicky wouldn't be the first VW Deuce. This was posted on the H.A.M.B. by member Bashnscratch: Could have used a bit more finesse... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/sitting-and-rotting-picture-thread.330573/page-345
  20. Heard back from the seller on the '40 Mercury parts - wouldn't budge on the price but would throw in the custom half-top he found. He relisted the items and I grabbed 'em - somebody had already put them on their watch list. I figure it this way - I got the rest of the car for free in a bag of junkers so I'm still ahead, more or less. And just so you know - these were the only pieces he had; he didn't break up a whole kit.
  21. Is the kit molded in gold? If so how does it look (swirls, etc.)?
  22. Not a bad idea (except for the calories). One suggestion: Turn it upside down and use the larger part for the lid. You could even fill the recess in the bottom (formerly the lid) with plaster to make a base.
  23. Excellent kit. If you want dual exhaust you'll have to source it from the convertible. The side trim is all separate pieces that fit into deep depressions in the body, so there's a bit of work if you want to delete the trim. I have one that's a long-stalled project - a mild custom with an AMT parts pack '57 Buick grille and '60 Olds taillights, and a Caddy V8.
  24. That's OK - I found a windshield from an incomplete '62 convertible I parted out (the one that gave its back half to the '61 vert).
  25. Please keep us posted on that one - I've never seen one built with the camper. Got plans for the tonneau cover?
