  1. Tonight I scratch built the tarp cover for the dump box. The frame "bow" is 16 thou rod , and the torsion spring mounts were made from plastic strip. I punched a few discs for the springs. Searching for suitable material for the canvas tarp, I settled on airplane tissue from lhs. A light dusting of acrylic paint, and it should look the part..
  2. Just saying thank you to all those who are / have previously served your country . US Army Ft Hood Texas 1 Cavalry Division
  3. Thanks guys, I have a few updates to photograph then I'll get them uploaded. Only thing left to build is the tarp roller for the box
  4. The truck I'm basing this from gets a pole barn paint job every spring. Keeps it looking ready to work
  5. Thanks Harry. I want to try a oil dot technique on the cab, armor trick. Trying to imply a dirty cab that's been streaked by rain
  6. Thanks for the feedback! The truck I was loosely basing it from had a similar scheme. More build coming..thanks for checking in
  7. looking good so far !! The airlines on your axles and frame really bring the model to life. The greasy handprints on the frame and foot traffic in the cab are very well executed
  8. Tesla- thanks! I found quickly these kits have a very thick chrome layer. It takes the scuffing great without breaking thru
  9. Very nice work, the interior looks great! The color looks good on this one
  10. That little box hiding in the background...my lift axle from gw trucks you voted for arrived !! Time to get building A tarp over the box is underway, and painting the fuel tanks.
  11. The major parts are done, just waiting for weathering. The cab / hood was painted w Testors True Blue enamel, I added a few drops of dullcoat to the mix to fade the finish. The box was a chore. Primed w Duplicolor , Testors Steel was chosen purely to enhance the blue. I really liked this combination. My Iwata airbrush handles all the paint work, until the steel . The metallic pigment kept clogging the fine tip , no matter how thin it was. Finally my harbor freight airbrush I use for clear was used. This gun is a joke, leaks like crazy, uncomfortable to use, but dumps clear on like glass...an AK might not be pretty , but it goes bang every time! any constructive feedback welcome!
  12. I wanted a distressed , dull look to the chrome on this build. Trucks seen during my research showed the pitted and dull sheen , now how do I do it?? A quick search here found the answer.. steel wool. I very LIGHTLY buffed the chrome grill and bumper w super fine steel wool..0000 grade, The pic of the grill shows one side done, vs the untouched kit chrome opposite.I had already tried spraying dullcoat over a test part, but it didn't impart the look I wanted. The hydraulic tank was a simple build from plastic sheet, loosely based from photos I took of my step dads truck. Thanks for looking
  13. Thanks!! I have a few pics to upload, most of the painting is complete. If ya like your trucks shiny, sorry. I wanted a well used, but cared for truck.
  14. Just a note, gwtrucks sells cnc cut frame rails in various length. Makes a frame stretch much easier..
  15. Good job so far, keeping an eye on this one!
  16. Thanks guys for looking in &the feedback. I was gonna mount the hydro tank by the fuel, but adding the lift axle will fill that space. I started scratching a frame mounted cell forward of the body lift cylinder..pics soon
  17. Thanks for the feedback on the lift axle. Better get an order into gwtrucks ! Would I need the high float fronts tires for that combo? question, would a hydraulic tank mounted by the fuel tank be correct? I've seen a few mounted under the dump body, and was considering one mounted in front of the lift cylinder, but what's everyone's thoughts? Thanks Jeff
  18. I'll tip my hand on the paint scheme, I'm planning a faded blue cab and an aluminum dump body. The spoke wheels are staying, but still on the fence about adding a lift axle...
  19. Above you can see the crossmember I added to keep the frame rigid, and made a perfect spot for the carrier bearing I need after the frame mod's. Searching for truck info, I stumbled onto a build where the front wheels were turned. This subtle detail always looks better to me, easily done when building the newer kits from Mobius. This kit had a solid beam, but modifying the axle hubs and tie rods, I had the turned wheels I wanted for the build..hope ya all like it.
  20. I chose to stagger the cuts to make the frame stronger. Then just added .040 strip and re-align the sections! After everything had a fair time to dry, I boxed in the frame rail with more strip . Time for a test fit, everything looked right, frame actually dried straight, off to the evil web for paint ideas!! Jim- I picked it up last weekend in Binghamton during the model swap meet.
