  1. ya, forgotten treasure, lol. I was talking to my son this morning and he says I should have more stashed away in boxes wrapped in shopping bags.......maybe i'll hunt around more tomorrow up there and see if he's right.......
  2. So, I have officially deemed myself an idiot. I haven't built a model in a very long time, so I decided to get back into it, and have been stocking up on big rig kits, paint and supplies [and reading this forum a ton]. I decided on big rigs, as I knew somewhere in my attic I had a 1/25th Wilson livestock trailer that was un built, and was my grandfathers that he bought new 'back in the day'. So yesterday after I got home from work, I decided to dig out the trailer to put it with all the other trailers I have. I get up in the attic [which looks like an episode of hoarders] and get looking around. I find the trailer in about 2 minutes and set it aside, all of a sudden, I spot another model box behind a pile of other stuff, so I take a closer look, and find these.. these have been up there so long, I completely forgot I had them! I guess when my revell auto transporter shows up, I don't have to buy anything to build to put on it, lol.
  3. things are trickling in thru the mail...
  4. I've been lucky enough to work on some old stuff at the dealership I work at, nothing like a hand choke, mechanical brakes, and the starter button on the floor! then there's adjustable generators, tightening the water pump packing etc.. my favorite is probably the lack of oil filters on the early stuff. finding a good power valve that won't leak seems to be a challenge in itself at times. i'm a chevy guy, but nothing sounds so nice as a ford flat 8 cranking over......, well, maybe the sound of it running thru headers and some porters......
  5. nice work, that looks fantastic!
  6. nice collections, must feel good walking into your own hobby shop I've only got about 2 dozen kits so far, but I've only been back into it for a month or so.......
  7. I've been stocking up, as I am getting back into this after a loooong hiatus of building, I had to start from scratch supplies-wise. Things are looking good though
  8. yes, I have read a lot of the info posted on these kits, and suspect there will be a lot of time involved in getting everything just so, but that's fine with me. I'm a hermit in the winter, and I am a patient man [except when I'm waiting for deliveries, haha], plus the info here will help greatly. Actually not dreading winter this year......
  9. as mentioned earlier, love the color combo. very nice build, keep them coming!
  10. that trailer is slick! great looking combo.
  11. wow, not much else to say really.....fantastic!
  12. nah, no lotto winnings [if only], I had a bunch of 'mad money' stashed away, and decided it was time to jump into modeling again. reason I bought all those is sort of a flash back to my being a kid. I can remember drooling over these back when they were probably on the original release. so I went overboard on my shopping spree......... matter of fact, just tonight my wife said to me 'you better be building every night this winter mr!' so all is good
  13. just got home from there, lol. bought the new pepsi truck with my 40% off coupon, and picked up some spray paint.
  14. welcome, new here myself, lot of great stuff here, get comfy, good reading here.
  15. well, see if this works had a few already here, and big brown left the rest this morning......
  16. thanks, I sorta figured that's how it would go, but thought i'd ask anyway, learning a lot around here.
  17. Thanks for the welcome, and the info. Any input on the striping question? I just got the rest of my trucks and trailers in the mail, and now it's idea/planning time
  18. since I haven't built anything in forever, may I ask how you all paint your chassis assemblies? back in the day, i'd paint all parts on the tree, then assemble and touch up. is it feasible, or easier to assemble then paint? and add little paint details after? also, [thinking way ahead here], what is the best way to do stripes on a truck and trailer so they have a matched continuous line? as I assume the trailer sides would be painted before assembly, or no? and finally, sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot thanks, ~tom
  19. well, i'm getting there. I picked up a few of the testors paint sets [general set, detail set and the camo set for flat colors], x-acto knife and spare blades, Tamiya thin tape, frog tape for delicate surfaces, testors liquid glue, testors liquid glue for clear parts, rubber bands of different sizes, files, brushes [from hobby lobby, looked better than the testors brushes], pack of wet/dry sand paper of various grits, a few pair of tweezers, a pack of emery boards [wife thought I was nuts in the nail polish isle at k-mart],some gorilla glue, cheap pair of side cutters for cutting things off the sprue's, and probably some other things I forgot. I 'think' I have the basics covered now. while I have you here, what is the general consensus on the testors glue for chrome parts? is it needed, or just stick to a little scrape/glue like days of old?
  20. years ago I had a 67 rambler rebel convertible, rough around the edges, but drove it every day for 8 months or so, then it lost reverse, after that I stored it for awhile at a friends, then life got involved and I lost track of the friend and the car. about 6 months ago I learned they made like 1700 of these cars that year. rare, yes, desireable/big money? probably not so much. although I wouldn't mind having it back.
  21. any more info/insight to this? reason I ask, I have a rather large r/c truck collection with around 30 bodies, as such, I have a ton of pactra paint in spray bombs and in bottles. sure would be nice to be able to use them [as the r/c stuff is gathering dust...]
  22. thanks for the replies everyone, biggest reason I was wondering is all the kits I have so far are 1/25 [rigs and trailers], but I saw a few 1/24th trailers I liked the look of. also being the genius that I am, never considered the actual math to figure it out . thanks again all.
  23. So, after looking at all the trucks and trailers available, I'm wondering how much a difference there is between the two scales? By that I mean if you put a 1/24th trailer behind a 1/25th rig, does it 'look right'? I know it seems like a silly question, but as I don't have any 'samples' to look at, I don't have a frame of reference. also, sorry if this has been discussed before, I'm reading all I can.....
