  1. don't do face book, I spend enough time on model related sites as it is.......... I am going to pick up some striping next trip to the hobby store and give it a try.
  2. haha, ya, I get a bit crazy when i'm working on something and spend more time looking for stuff than I do actually working.
  3. the glass is mint, one A pillar is slightly bowed, but not too bad, I think it'll be ok. doesn't look like the box was stored under a pile of stuff. boy my build list is getting longer by the week lately, lol.
  4. actually i have been thinking about that, guess i need to get some striping material and see what it looks like.
  5. yes, eventually it'll get built. i had one when i was a kid. i also had the iroc, the 65 vette, the trans am, the 78 vette and the t bucket when i was younger, who knows where they ended up..........
  6. hey all, i picked this up today, i built this kit when i was a teenager when it was a fresh release, it's going to be awhile before i get to it, but was wondering if you had any tips/advice on what pitfalls i may encounter. i'm sure last time i did this kit my standards were way lower and i rushed to build it, this time around i'd like to do it justice and end up with a nice model. any thoughts?
  7. went to a IPMS show today and scored these, none of which I was looking for, but for some reason, I couldn't live without them at the time......
  8. anyone make a '55/'56 dodge pick up? my brother in law is building a 1:1 truck, and we got talking models, so I told him i'd do some looking for one. any out there? thanks, tom
  9. nicely done, looks ready to drive!
  10. that's what I was thinking. so, question 301, how long should I wait to un-mask? and should I scribe the tape/paint line to keep from lifting paint? not scribe really, just break the paint from the tape.
  11. well, count me for the dying breed too I suppose. I work for a chevy dealer, and the owner has a nice collection of old fords [ from 1930 thru 1950's], and we have a few customers that bring in old cars. I do most of them, we have one other guy that's capable, but he usually isn't interested in working on 'old junk' as he calls them. just walk in and ask a few of my co-workers what a dwell meter is and compare the look you get to that of a startled deer, lol. or ask for a carb overhaul. it's amazing they don't know the difference between a flat head and a Y block, and present them with a front brake drum.........look out..... I've been lucky enough to work on and drive some really cool cars over the years, I think my favorite was a 1959 caddy convertible, that was like driving my living room
  12. so, when doing a two tone, after it's all masked and painted, can ya throw it in the dehydrator with the tape still on? or will this cause tape removal issues? just wondering if it'll dry out the tape and cause it to pull the underlying paint off with it when removed? silly question number 300, but i'd rather ask, than try it and have to re-do another paint job...... p.s. using Tamiya tape [thin] and frog tape for delicate surfaces [wide].
  13. that's going to look slick.....
  14. getting there. my body work seems to have turned out well, granted it was only filling a seam, but as it was another first for me, and i'm pleased with the results. paint is also getting better, way less orange peel in this one. I wet sanded it, and I think with a good wet coat, it's going to be smooth and glossy [i hope, lol]. I wasn't happy with my paint line on the hood, so I revisited that [drying now], so I hope I have that sorted. here's some updated pic's.
  15. absolutely love it! how bout a pic with full trailer? please.....
  16. I've got some duplicolor hunter green, still need to inquire over at hanks board. thanks for the responses.
  17. you sir are a building mo-fo! wow that is one sweet looking rig so far!
  18. as long as we don't forget where we left the magnifying glass......lol.
  19. well, i'm makin progress, albeit slowly. first time working with putty. i'm using Tamiya white putty. still needs a little work, but happy so far. got the hood masked and sprayed some black on the nose, that's about it for now, still want to massage the cab a touch, can still see a little bit of a seam.
  20. that's gonna look sweet! your a machine, I don't think the paint is dry on the freight-shaker, and here you have a trailer and 1/2 a truck done already! p.s. the car hauler shoulda been orange, you threw me off with a new color
  21. a few months ago, I thought all models were over priced [i'm talking new, on the store shelf stuff], now, it's a whole new thought process for me. now that I have jumped off the deep end full force plastic-wise my views are different on prices. I unfortunately have a longing for kits I couldn't buy as a kid/youth, and as such, have been buying 'vintage' kits. my realm has been limited to big rigs and trailers. I do prefer sealed kits, but, if it's something I want and it's all there, good enough. I am not buying for an investment, I intend to build all I bought eventually, some I am saving until my skill set improves, but by golly, i'm building them. it's reliving my youth to an extent, and I am in the position to be able to spend a little too much on something if I think I want it bad enough. having said all that, a few months ago if you told me i'd spend $100 or more for an old kit, i'd of said you were nuts, now i'd say you were right. but at the same return, if the market holds as it is for awhile, if I needed to, I could get my money back......if the market stays the same. it's all relative.....
  22. good looking build. love the color combo too.
  23. welcome! I work in Chittenango, sure is funny how the world wide web makes the world really shrink sometimes. i'm just getting back into building myself, and doing big rigs as well. it's a lot of fun, and this place is really packed with info. enjoy.
