Paint Strippers - What to Use?
tbill replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
KJ, give it a few more days. I just did a body I painted about 10 years ago [one coat, no primer], took 2 weeks in the pond, but it's paint free now. I found if you can 'scratch' the paint some, it'll let the degreaser 'under' the paint and speed the process some. -
good mistake, that looks killer!

How many of you participate in contests ?
tbill replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've only recently got back into building, and luckily Jim B is close to me location-wise and clued me into a few shows. until he told me, I really didn't know such a thing existed [ya, I don't get out much, lol], but since, have been to two shows to see what it's all about, and what kind of builds show up. I think eventually I will actually enter a build, as I saw some builds that were awesome, and some that were not, and after seeing what was entered, I feel at this point in my short career I fall in between stunning and why bother, lol. I also realize after doing the 1:1 car show thing, someone always has a nicer/better detailed/spot on/perfect stance build, so i'm used to the competition thing, but I also try to take something away from the experience, as previously posted, try to make yourself a better builder. -

so, the wife made the mistake of letting me roam free around hobby lobby today found a lot of cool stuff, but thought i'd pass this on to you guys. I wandered down the doll house isle, and found picket fence. it's 5 'sections' in a pack for $2.47 this is how it looks out of the package, cut the points off, and you now have shipping pallets [or close anyway], I thought it was a cheap way to get 5 pallets

What to do when the love is gone?
tbill replied to freakshow12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i'm just back into building, and I use it to wind down from life. some days I come home and right to the bench I go and get tons done, other times, I sand one seam, then come here and a few other places, and then do something else. I find if I don't set a goal where plastic is concerned, it comes together by itself, as in, I sit down and putter and before I know it, something got accomplished. when it seems like work, let it set, it'll be there when you're ready. -

Anthony, thanks. I used bits of frame rail from a diamond reo kit, one cross member from same kit to tie the end rails together, and cut the daylights out of another cross member to 'make' some gussets at the 'scab' point. probably not even close to real life, but I like how the frame came out. -

looking good! I have one in the stash waiting.....i'm painfully slow building these things..... -
did you guys make it over? I scored some kits and saw some highly detailed builds, was a good time.
-
did you hit the show today? I spent way too much on plastic...... some of the rigs looked fantastic! the lonestar w/featherlight was amazing [to pick out just one], and some of the cars had amazing detail. I really enjoyed going, got a lot of ideas for future builds.

welcome. I have just recently got back into building myself, good to see another new Yorker [long winters make for a good build season, lol]. amazing wealth of info here, and some spectacular builds as well.
