  1. yes, I have read a lot of the info posted on these kits, and suspect there will be a lot of time involved in getting everything just so, but that's fine with me. I'm a hermit in the winter, and I am a patient man [except when I'm waiting for deliveries, haha], plus the info here will help greatly. Actually not dreading winter this year......
  2. as mentioned earlier, love the color combo. very nice build, keep them coming!
  3. that trailer is slick! great looking combo.
  4. wow, not much else to say really.....fantastic!
  5. nah, no lotto winnings [if only], I had a bunch of 'mad money' stashed away, and decided it was time to jump into modeling again. reason I bought all those is sort of a flash back to my being a kid. I can remember drooling over these back when they were probably on the original release. so I went overboard on my shopping spree......... matter of fact, just tonight my wife said to me 'you better be building every night this winter mr!' so all is good
  6. just got home from there, lol. bought the new pepsi truck with my 40% off coupon, and picked up some spray paint.
  7. welcome, new here myself, lot of great stuff here, get comfy, good reading here.
  8. well, see if this works had a few already here, and big brown left the rest this morning......
  9. thanks, I sorta figured that's how it would go, but thought i'd ask anyway, learning a lot around here.
  10. Thanks for the welcome, and the info. Any input on the striping question? I just got the rest of my trucks and trailers in the mail, and now it's idea/planning time
  11. since I haven't built anything in forever, may I ask how you all paint your chassis assemblies? back in the day, i'd paint all parts on the tree, then assemble and touch up. is it feasible, or easier to assemble then paint? and add little paint details after? also, [thinking way ahead here], what is the best way to do stripes on a truck and trailer so they have a matched continuous line? as I assume the trailer sides would be painted before assembly, or no? and finally, sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot thanks, ~tom
  12. well, i'm getting there. I picked up a few of the testors paint sets [general set, detail set and the camo set for flat colors], x-acto knife and spare blades, Tamiya thin tape, frog tape for delicate surfaces, testors liquid glue, testors liquid glue for clear parts, rubber bands of different sizes, files, brushes [from hobby lobby, looked better than the testors brushes], pack of wet/dry sand paper of various grits, a few pair of tweezers, a pack of emery boards [wife thought I was nuts in the nail polish isle at k-mart],some gorilla glue, cheap pair of side cutters for cutting things off the sprue's, and probably some other things I forgot. I 'think' I have the basics covered now. while I have you here, what is the general consensus on the testors glue for chrome parts? is it needed, or just stick to a little scrape/glue like days of old?
  13. years ago I had a 67 rambler rebel convertible, rough around the edges, but drove it every day for 8 months or so, then it lost reverse, after that I stored it for awhile at a friends, then life got involved and I lost track of the friend and the car. about 6 months ago I learned they made like 1700 of these cars that year. rare, yes, desireable/big money? probably not so much. although I wouldn't mind having it back.
  14. any more info/insight to this? reason I ask, I have a rather large r/c truck collection with around 30 bodies, as such, I have a ton of pactra paint in spray bombs and in bottles. sure would be nice to be able to use them [as the r/c stuff is gathering dust...]
  15. thanks for the replies everyone, biggest reason I was wondering is all the kits I have so far are 1/25 [rigs and trailers], but I saw a few 1/24th trailers I liked the look of. also being the genius that I am, never considered the actual math to figure it out . thanks again all.
  16. So, after looking at all the trucks and trailers available, I'm wondering how much a difference there is between the two scales? By that I mean if you put a 1/24th trailer behind a 1/25th rig, does it 'look right'? I know it seems like a silly question, but as I don't have any 'samples' to look at, I don't have a frame of reference. also, sorry if this has been discussed before, I'm reading all I can.....
  17. I originally went in the first time looking for metal signs for my garage, then noticed the 'magic' isle of plastic fantastic I think I have been there once a week since, lol.
  18. him, ' honey, look at our new caddy!' her, 'gee honey, we can hardly afford the twins and that new ranch house we bought, plus, didn't the Jones' just get one of these in pink?' or........ 'hey baby, how you doin?'
  19. Ya, I know, I am like a kid waiting on Christmas, but I can't help it! And I have a plan, sorta... but still can't wait for the packages to show up!! In transit currently are as follows [all AMT/Round 2] GMC Astro 95 Texaco tanker Chevy Titan 90 White Road Boss Fruehauf flat bed Peerless log trailer Fruehauf dry goods van Texaco chrome tanker Kenworth K123 Fruehauf post trailer Peterbilt cab over Tanker trailer [CCR transport I think] in the 'stash' already are, White freightliner dual drive Livestock trailer [original, had forever] Revell Peterbilt 359 conventional. Will try to post a pic of all the goods once I get them all 'home' Plan to pick up some paint/tools/etc. this weekend. Once the shopping is done, I'll carve out a spot in the house to set up shop, it also helps that one of my kids is looking to move out on her own, so that'll free up a room I can dedicate to building Winter is not going to be so bad this year
  20. Thanks for the tips guys, probably going to order/pick up some basic supplies this coming weekend. James, I mentioned it in my intro thread, but I'll say it again, thanks for pointing me over here from the H.A.M.B, this is a great place.
  21. thanks again for the welcome, and James, thanks much for directing me here, great place!
  22. thanks for the welcome, been doing a lot of reading here, lot of great stuff!
  23. Hi all, have a few simple questions on some stuff. Just getting back into doing models and as such, I need to aquire all the odds and ends to actually build them [i.e. paint etc.]. I suppose my biggest question is, what're you all using for masking material? I'm familiar with liquid mask, and fine line tape [been using this stuff on r/c truck bodies], but, those bodies are relatively smooth [i.e. no deep body lines or 'rivets' to contend with], so what's the best stuff to use to eliminate bleed thru? [hope that makes sense]. Also, what paints do you prefer to use? I see there are quite a few options out there now between brands and type of paint. Any advice on materials will be greatly welcomed. I lost my mind and ordered several rigs and trailers in order to keep me busy this winter, so now I need to equip the shop as it were to be ready to go when the cold hits. thanks again, ~tom
  24. hi all, have not built a model in a long time....a long time, but have decided to plunge back in with both feet. I got started off at a young age doing snap together funny cars [circa '74], and as I grew up progressed to glue, paint, spray paint, then seemed to have the usual blow them up phase, then back to make them pretty and keep them displayed. Then I got a little older, and gave them all away when I moved out of 'home' [sure wish I had kept them all], then had kids and such, so the hobby went by the wayside for other things. Well, it's time to get back to it , I have decided to go the big rig route this time around, sort of a tribute to my late grandfather [he sold GMC rigs for years]. I can remember him building some rigs and trailers and I have an AMT livestock trailer that was his in my attic, un built, so I thought it was about time to get back into it. I've already ordered about a dozen trucks and trailers, so I'll be busy this winter looking forward to learning from you all, ~tbill
