Freight liner FLC and tanker
tbill replied to tbill's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Jim, I added some parts, and left some off to try to make a cleaner look -
Finished this pair up the other day, the rig built up easily, the tanker on the other hand was a warped mess. Other than decals and mud flaps, the rig is box stock. On the trailer I decided to make front fenders for it, added flat pads on the landing gear rather than the kit supplied wheels, made new rear fenders to match the fronts and used moebius super single wheels/tires , all in an effort to maybe try to give the tanker a slightly more modern look. The service lines are all that’s left to glue in place, they fell out before the pics, lol. As always, thanks for looking.

Don’t know how I missed this one first time around, but boy, what an eye catcher! Bit of an unusual color combo, but it really works on this rig, sweet build. -

Thanks guys, I’m hoping to get some outside pics later on today

Well I cracked it open and started on it. Parts are molded in blue, kind of a greenish/white, chrome and that weird metallic gray/silver. I got the mold lines off the cab and hood and painted them in testors blazing black. Got a good start on the frame and put a coat of clear on all the box chrome parts. Will probably have another update later on tonight.

Looking good? -
I fully intend to document my progress right here in this thread? . I’ve been staring at this box for a couple of years now, it’s now time to crack it open and hopefully do it justice. Stay tuned for progress....

Well, I’ve picked my next victim. So far during the plague I’ve built 3 rigs and 4 trailers, this kit has been above my bench for quite some time, and I look at it often. Since the freight liner and tanker is done, I needed another project and decided this is the one. I’ll probably break the seal on this tomorrow......

So, pretty much calling this one done, if the sun ever comes out again I’ll get pics and do an under glass topic. I left some parts off, and added some others. Trailer was a warped mess of parts, but I beat it into submission, overall, I’m fairly pleased. Haven’t permanently attached the service lines yet.

This is kind of geared towards rig builders, but could come in handy for cars as well. I build a lot of rigs, and for those that build them, you know that you get to a point where turning them around on the bench to work on one side or the other can get tricky. As I was working on my freight liner the other day I thought , boy, a lazy Susan would be nice right about now . Fast forward a few days, my wife had to go to Walmart for groceries and asked if I needed anything, so I put in a request to have her look for a cheap lazy Susan. What she found was a turntable for cake decorating. It has adjustable height, the legs fold inward to create a lower stance and a locking mechanism for the table so it can spin or not spin. Also has non slip pads on the legs. I think it’s going to come in handy, and for $20, I thought it was cheap enough. Just thought I’d pass along the idea if it hadn’t been mentioned before.

Water based acrylic is the ticket for that, cause as you say, a bit of water and a q tip and you’re back in business -
Thank you, I’ve had a lot of free time lately.... got the tank painted, trailer frame in color, and painted the fenders. I’m thinking this whole project will be wrapped up by Monday.

As in the 1:1 world, they are only original once ...., I’m not much on buying built ups, but I think I’d clean that up and keep it as a bit of a time capsule myself.
