In the fall of 1976 my Dad bought a used 1969 Ford F-100 pickup Custom Cab. The options were a 360 V8 engine and 4-speed trans. To say that the bed needed some work would be an understatement. It truly looked like swiss cheese. After work each day and whenever he could over the next 6 weeks he worked on the body. There was a lot of screen and body filler used along with a lot of sand paper. But he managed to get the holes cleaned up and plugged. When he was done he brush painted it with gloss black rustoleum. He also painted all the white parts with gloss white rustoleum (including the rims). When done and from about 15 feet away it looked pretty darn good. Up close you could see the brush marks. Dad had this truck until 1985. None of the body filler fell out! Dad passed this past May. I miss him a lot!
About this build: This build is that truck. It is the Mobius / Model King kit. I swapped the 6 cylinder for the 390 from the XLT kit (even though Dad’s was a 360). If I found one of these trucks today and was to restore it, it would be done with modern day techniques and paint. Since I like glossy (as many of you can tell) it would NOT be brush painted. Details: Nason black paint and cleared with auto 2-part clear. White trim is duplicolor white with duplicolor clear. The kit built as best as I can remember.
This is a very nice kit. On to the pics. Comments welcome.
Thanks for looking!
