Gotcha down in the intro post Mike!!
-
Never never NEVER buy guitar string unless you play. Almost any shop will be happy to hand you any string fragments. Plus you can always ask on here. I ask at the guitar shops when they are working on a guitar, AND I have some around here already as I play, and I same my old strings for modeling purposes. I don't change out my strings very often, but I have 3 guitars.
LOL!! I'll keep that in mind about the guitar string Mike! I'll get you down on the list good buddy! Glad to see you in this GB!!

At it again are ya Ira? Dude there's just no end to your imagination is there. Nice work!
-
Thats a project that would take me TWO winters!! Cool project philo!!
-
Thanks Wayne! Nope ...no hiding this puppy! I build almost everything I touch opened up these days. I'll get to a point I'm sure where I'll start building them buttoned up....................................................but not just yet!! lol
Looking forward to your follow up.

First off welcome to the forum and secondly Tom nailed it. Rome wasn't built in a day so having said that your model skills wont jump from where you are now to advanced levels overnight. As said by Tom , stick to the basics, ask questions, watch folks here and most importantly have fun at it. Glad youre here!

Hey Mike. Whats up bud? Ha ha!! Woo Hoo!!! Good to see you here man! Good lookin 16 you've got there. I'm going to PM you pal!

Ok guys here's the mostly finished nose module minus cowl guns and paneling.
The Jumo 213:

and one more just to reference the scale:

Really nice job on those tracks Wayne! I like the sag between the wheels man! Gives it a really authentic look. I spent about 5 years in Field Artillery around M 109's and know about not only the sag but the wear on those tracks. Lookin' good on those and the weathering so far!!!
-
Thanks Mark! Was wondering where you were! Looking forward to your build.
-
You know Wayne it's a never ending learning experience hangin' around places like this and it's fun at the same time. Can't wait to see some more progress on that Tiger!
Got updated pics on the nose. The prop spinner decal was a real challenge to put on this one. I spent around an hour chasing this thing around in circles to get it to lay down even remotely flat and applied around 7 coats of Microsol to get it suck down to the spinner. All in all I'm happy with it.
and together with the prop blade it really comes to life. This is after the dullcoat on the spinner as well.

Wayne:Man I've gotta say again that armor builds are mostly in the weathering and you've nailed this thing great! I've often thought of learning how to apply filters just because the effect they give is simply awesome!
Jim:Thanks brother! Actually Aires makes some of the best aftermarket stuff around and so far the firewall to fuselage fit is so good it looks like it was made for it!

The assembled engine/ firewall assy. Nose section almost complete here:
and starting on the nose:

Thanks Jim! I'm looking forward to it man!

Check out the Great Wall Devastator in 1/48th. Those things are da bomb!!!

Here's engine build up after being mostly assembled. Exhausts were at first painted a metallic silver, then sprayed with a light coat of rust to allow some of the metallic color to "bleed" through, a light wash applied and then ground up black pastel was dry brushed to the #2 thru #6 exhaust outlets for that soot effect.
and the other side:

I would like to join. Revell 1/48 B1-b Lancer.
Youre on the list dude!!
-
Come on with it Andre! I'll get you in the line up. Man if I remember right that thing is a whale of a kit. I got that one year for Christmas when I was in my teens...........................about 30 years ago! That was a BIG present under ....er....around the tree! Glad to have you aboard!
-
Man don't that suck on the "gotta go to work"? I can certainly identify with that!! Good goin on this build Wayne! The paint is turning out just right. To me it would seem that the weathering process is one of the hardest parts of getting an armor build to look worn and used.
-
Aww man you done made me bust out the research stuff! First off that's a nice spread of models. I really like the SBD and Texan aircraft. Just something about the lines of those airframes that just plain look good. I believe that SBD kit is a Hawk/ Testors 1/72 kit. There were a range 72nd kits with Airfix, Testors, Aosshima and Hasegawa in the line up. The rear guns here are the give away to Testors being the manufacturer. Aside from all that stuff that's a good paint job on the SBD-3 Eric.

Ok these pics are of the supercharger/ engine accessory gear box. This part was a blast to build and is complete down to lubrication lines.
If anybody is wondering if they have seen these pics before here............they have. I started this build last year and put it off for a GB at another site and then put it off again for the GB here. I'll be caught up after I post the completed engine /nose module pictures.
-
Thanks Wayne!! I've heard horror stories about working on road wheels. All the way from sanding to paint!
-
Here's where I started with on an engine:
and this is afer painting and weathering. The engine is supposed to be a dark color but I painted it a medium shade of grey (RLM 02) and applied a heavy dark wash to bring out all of the detail that this resin engine has to offer:

Oh Mark this is a geat one.
It's one of the Cyber Hobby "White Box" Limited Edition kits. I bought this one a couple years ago for asking price, $45, and now they're up to $55+ if your lucky. A friend decided to thin the heard and let me pick up another for $25.
I'll be building African panzers all summer!

That sounds great to me Wayne!!! Can't wait to see some good Steel Cat action going on here! NIce kit!!!
