This is with the CMK tailwheel retracting mechanism "guts" in their undercarraige set for this bird. I simply could NOT resist doing this. The fuselage is together with no cockpit assembled yet. The assist spring that came with the CMK kit SUCKED so I bought some guitar string, cut to proper length, painted steel and applied a MIG productions dark wash to the spring.

Ok fellas I'm going to kick this thing off with a little recap of this kit. I had already started this kit last November but put it on freeze for another GB thats going on elsewhere and then again for this GB. Here's where it all started. My Tamiya Fw190 D-9 fuselage halves laid out together before any cutting took place:
and after carving the front of the plane from the fuselage and the tail fin access panel from the tail:
This'll be the update that I'll be using for this beauty:

Wayne:Now that's an in depth weathering tutorial there! I remember seeing something like that on a Vallejo dvd that I have here at the house. I've watched it about 3 or 4 times just for retention sake. You've added a couple of things that aint on that video though. Thanks for sharing that info and look forward to seeing it in action.

Thanks Jim! Alot of the detail was robbed from the Hasegawa SBD-4 kit I had in the stash. Monogram certainly didn't go to any length to offer any detail in the cockpit area thats for sure but, hey, aint that what kit bashing is all about? I'm just glad I had a decent kit to "go to " for the extra detail.

I have the highest respect for anybody that builds 72nd scale aircraft and can pull it off to look like 48th scale stuff. Got pics?

Nice aircraft and nice build. Indeed it has been said that this was the best aircraft of the Second World War. They certainly look the part. Nice panel line detail as they are really standing out.

Greg:Thanks for the congrats. I've got plans for where to move my bench to. I may have to split it up a little but plans none the less.
Richard: That bench looks sharp. Sometimes I wished I had a set up like that to make it more living room friendly.

Greg:Man I'm facing that one too. My wife and I are moving forward with adopting a child. The spare room that all of my stuff is in (workbench and all of that) is gonna get cleared out. I'll be building in the garage this time next year, but hey, I'll still have a place to build!

I have can of the 1500, oh wow, that stuff is as smooth as a babys rear end, try, I am pretty sure you will like it , I have not yet tired it through the Air Brush yet, but one of the LHS stocks Mr Hobby products and do have Mr Surfacer in the bottles, I am going to have pick one up and give it a try
What PSI do you shoot it at?
I usually spray mine at around 30 psi. Broad coverage and decent pressure gives a good smooth coat.

I hear ya Wayne! I'm wondering if I should initially extend this GB on out for a year due to the complexity of some of the builds that are in here like yours and Rileys. I can do that if it takes some of the pressure off of you guys so you can take your time with the builds. Lemme know.

My sister gave me a "visible P-51D" Mustang. It had retracting wheels, spinning prop and it dropped bombs. I dont think i ever got another that i did not have to pick out and order myself....
