  1. Looks Real- hubcaps and under hood are Superb!!! nice color combo also
  2. nice paint and details-service station trouble call trucks are always COOL
  3. after reading the threads and realizing this has been going on for about 100 years....like anything else''-''yous pays yer money and yous take yer chances''
  4. That looks Tough-I like it
  5. great weathering. but was it not a 51 or 2 f-1 that Lamont drove?
  6. has anyone actually seen the ''metal'' deteriorate? I am wondering if it is in the prep of the factory paint jobs. I have stripped a few and found such thick paint and stuff that looks like ''Bondo''- maybe thats the problem. on my current rebuilds -instead of going through the long messy process of stripping- I dis assemble and scrub everywhere with a scotchbrite pad [etch] and palmolive. then prime and paint. I have had no problems yet and some I have left outside for years to let them weather on their own. I get faded paint and chrome but no bubbles I dont know why they picked 1/18 scale? I would have preferred 1/16. the Hubley Duesenberg was the 1st 1/18 car I ever built -perhaps that was a deciding factor??? after that Bburago was the next 1/18 scale assembled model I saw- it kinda boomed after that. it seems true-die cast is on the way out -however for me resin is too weak to hold up to the test of time-.it turns into rubber under hot water- what will it do if left out in the hot sun? I think I will stick to die cast and styrene thank you.
  7. Harry made a real basic model look like a million bucks on this one
  8. After hearing the sad news about Harry I decided to dedicate this build to him. I had dreamed about building this car and mentioned it to him as well- and now it is in the final stages . so this is for you Harry. the ''V8'' stamping on the hubcaps needed to be more sharp- so I had a printer do the inserts in vinyl and I like the way they turned out. they stick just fine and stretched to the convex of the cap-so that is done...... I scratch built a generator cut out for the engine and plumbed the carburetor. also made up hinges and pins on the doors- for a more authentic look. the body is now holding primer so I will work on the topcoat tomorrow-weather permitting.
  9. Well Done-interior is SUPERB - the shading on the seats a very nice touch-it just goes to show-''its all in the paint''
  10. I am shocked to hear the news. and very sad that we will not be able to hear his advise and critique on the large scale Models- Here is to you Harry. I am sure you are still building- where ever you are... one of my Favorite builds of his was the Aurora 1/16 Stutz Bearcat. he did a truly amazing job of adding details and even scratch building an engine for this car. several of my model building friends later caught the build /thread and I was proud to say I was there and a part of it. I sure will miss hearing from him on this site.
  11. that is nice paint and trim work. these cars look great when built stock like this
  12. that is true- the correct engine has the water outlets and pumps mounted to the front of the heads.
  13. the spotlight is perfect- shop has a perfect amount of grunge.........
  14. Thank you for the decal info- yes those old Joueff models needed lots of help. we did what we could because they were all that was available back then!!! Here is an early Hotwheels California Spyder I repainted body and interior. the Hotwheels cars have come a long way....
  15. that might be easier than you think if it was carefully cut around the base of the windows -all in one piece- take some measurements and see if things would line up. as far as soldering pot metal- very hard to do because of the different make up of the pot every time. some of it is really low grade stuff. a while back I heard of the die cast cancer where some peoples models were actually starting to disintegrate right under the paint. terrible! one thing I think I will do is use real automotive spot putty on my fill next time-I think the industrial stuff will have less tendency to crack. on the black custom F-1 below you can see the problem of filling the hood trim as well.this time no cracking but'' Ghosting'' my mistake was in sanding down the trim and filling it in. what should have been done was to cut flat patches and graft them in-then putty.
  16. thanks again Ted- did quite a few F-1'S- I have a couple 1/1 scale pickups so that got me going when these models finally started coming out. the last tan one is an F-2- split rims and bigger wheel openings on the fenders.full floating rear axle.[hub] the real truck would have had a longer bed -of course.
  17. Thanks Ted-yes there are problems with the patching-. a year after painting the hood had hairline cracks at the gap all the way around-the fenders -however never had a problem. sold the car on e bay a few years back so I don't know how it held out after that- but I have not heard anything. If anyone has a better way to do this kind of work on die cast maybe they could tell us. as I sure would like to chop a few coupes.
  18. here is what I did with the donor car. actually all I got from it was a rear bumper.
  19. nice work! I had a trail 70 when I was a kid. mine had the 4 speed with a clutch- which I believe this model is- with the script ''trail 70''
  20. 1/18 die cast rebuild
  21. nice color- and good work on the spark plug wire conduit!
  22. Jim Hall would be proud-a rare car for sure
  23. Hot Stuff- super clean build and I love the colors.
  24. I think it turned out SUPERB. color and detail painting are Excellent. I wish I could get those wire wheels in 1/16 scale!!!
  25. I could not find a 109 wagon in 1/18 scale, so I converted this BRUDER plastic toy into my version of a safari wagon. used wheels from AMT 1/16 Mustang kit. added windows, headlights, and lots of detail painting.
