Tyrone Malone's Hideout Truck
ewaskew replied to bitner's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That is a very nice build. I have the PA PA truck and the long frame AMT VIT cabover I plan on building my own race set up with those two. Or maybe a tri axel kw conv. Either way I hope they come out as nice as these .Thanks for showing them. God Bless -
That turned out nice Brett. Now on to another one.

Thats some nice builds.I'M not a rat fan or a rust fan either when it comes to what I build. I just like to see the details and craftmansship in any model.

Welcome Jason As for the tools, seems like you have a good start. The kit is a good one to,the frame fits real tight on that kit. That being said, remember that when test fitting,be sure thats done before final paint so it want chip on you. The primer that I use is Dupli Color Gray filler primer its a high build primer that you can fill minor scratchs as you sand it smooth. It can be covered with Lacquer and Enamel paint [Testors OR Tamiya] Just do'nt mix name brands on your paint job. Do'nt ask me how I know that want work. LOL If you go to this [Genral topics] under Finish for paint.I did a reply with photos on paint job steps I do. Maybe it will help you without looking all over the place. I also know about the OTR deal, and hope I do'nt have to do it again. It's not fun anymore to many rules for me.LOL Be safe out there and God Bless Earl

It's looking good no matter what class it lands in. Real nice paint.

You hit it on the nail.Thats why I show the diffrent photos of gloss some are deep and some are not. The one thing to remember is that you will see it on your shelf more than anybody. Maybe you could put up some photos of your builds on here for them to see. I have seen some of your work, and it seems to me that the way you rust them out, unless I have you mixed up with some else, is a craft all its own its not as easy as some may think.

I can tell you guys this much. [1] I do all sanding before any paint getting the body preped removing all mold lines, any puddy work, body work using 150 grit sand paper [Dry sanding.] [2] Then I spray Gray dupli color filler primer about 3 thin coats you will see all of your scratchs from the 150 grit. I let it dry 12 hrs or more. [3]After it dries I mist coat it with black OR what ever color I'm going to use, then start wet sanding with 400 grit untill all is even and smooth.Solid gray no mist paint showing. [4]I spray it untill it is covered about 5 thin coats of what ever color I use. And let it dry for 2 days or more then lightly wet sand with 600 grit staing away from edges and [high areas trim, emblems, acc.] [5]If I do'nt sand through,.I start clear coating up to 3 or 4 coats most of the time it is smooth and no more sanding is done. If It do'nt look slick enough I add more thin coats of clear untill I get it the way I want it. The coats of clear needed, depends on the color being used. The dark colors slick up with a few coats it seems like. All of my painting is done with cans.I set them in warm tap water a few minutes.NOT HOT WATER JUST WARM TO THE TOUCH. As for the young builders on here talk to your PARENTS FIRST before warming any paint. I wash them after each step with Dawn then after they sit around driny.I wash them one more time before the paint go's on. During this process of painting if any trash pops up I stop, let dry,fix it,then back to painting. The 57 chevy was painted 14 years ago and I can still see my tv screen clear from 10 feet away. The 41 red truck painted 2 years or more. The dodge 1 month ago. The 55 chevy is current it has dust that has to be removed and it will be wet sanded then more coats of clear. Thats how I test to see how smooth it is LOL. I hold it up to see the tv screen clear from 10 feet away and then I'm happy with it. Over time I may wax them if they get real dirty.I had to do just a couple of them to clean them up. I never use a polishing kit. If the car is going to a show I may wet sand with 1500 up to 2000 grit if needed between coats.

This should be good, looking foward to it. Keep us posted Me and my 13 year old grand daughter did one and it was a lot of fun. She did the paint on this one.She was 12 at the time.

Heres the latest 90% is painted and the building has started. When the body is finished the trim will be the same color as the eng. light gun metal. The bottom shots of the eng show the scratch built oil pan,oil filter, oilfilter housing and cover plates better
-
Thats a nice first build. The color you picked is hard to get right and it looks like it came out good. Keep building and keeping us up to date.
-
Well Jared your having a run of bad luck on this one, hang in there. You can build a pick up pulling a trailer with the broke one loaded up for a project. Davin the truck looks good. Did you cover it with white primer or milltary flat yellow before the gloss yellow? Pali good color looks nice.
-
Thanks again for the comments. Chuck that idea you got may work out pretty good. This one will not have the blower on it but the rest of the eng will be used. I have another 53 that is custom and I'll use it on that one.
-
Good idea there Pali I'll have to try that sometime. Earl

Thats looking good nice and clean Are these kits still on the market? If they are can someone give me a company and kit number? Thanks Earl

Got the bed done. The mustang bumper did'nt look the way I wanted it to,so I cut the top off fliped it upside down, then blended every thing in.It has a full tub so that I can get the height low for a car show stance. Thanks for looking God Bless Earl

Sergey That truck is very nice and the way you show the photos it's like a how to forum on building parts please keep us up dated. Thank you Earl
-
Thanks for the comments every one. Davin that build is looking good. Whats the latest with your truck Clay?
-
Yea man that is cool looks real good. Reminds me of the time the guys at work had me build one like this and we had a guy thinking he was going to get a company truck and I was bringing it to him. When he found out it was a prank he was still happy with the model.
-
Well this is the latest. The rear bumper and light together just was'nt looking the way I wanted it to,so I cut the top half off'narrowed it then turned it up side down, then worked the fenders out to blend in. Then built the flush fit bed cover to cover up the full lentgh tubed wheel well so that I can get the height I want, it will be built low as if at a show. Next I will be droping the top , go'ing to get that rear window closer to the bed. Enjoy Thanks Earl
