That turned out really nice Marco!!! Love that color, and stripes. Excellent stance too!!!

WOW Bill, like others have said, you took a frog, and made a prince!!! Everything about this old kit looks beautiful, and those wheels really make the difference.

I'm with Sam on the fact that model kits need to make their way back into retail stores like back in the sixties. Back when I was a kid, almost every store you walked into carried model cars, paints, and glue. Man, what a time that was!!! A 1/8 Super bird? Hell, that would take up half a room to display Harry!!! It would be cool, but huge. I am glad to see the Big Tub make a return, less the six carb manifold (I have several vintage sets, so I'm good) Now if we can get the rest of the Big Drag, I'd be stoked.

That is an awesome build, and some great scratch building too. I love all the working lights, and opening doors as well!!! But.....It is freakishly over lifted, and wouldn't be street legal in real life.

Project Snowball is still alive, and last I heard Dave Mikrut had it to finish. I have heard so many horror stories about this project, that I wouldn't even want to attempt it. These projects start out great, and everybody has good intentions, but something, or someone eventually happens. The one idea of having just 4 people partake sounds like a winner, but I hope you all pick a kit that works, and goes together very well. Good luck!!!! Here are a couple pics of Snowball as it sits today. These pics came from Dave's album.

One more beautiful notch in your belt Gary!!! Your paint work is just amazing.

It turned out really nice Charles, maybe a little dark, but who care as long as your happy with it!!! One thing you did that I like is you didn't forget the white walls on the rear tires, one small detail most overlook.

Very nice build!!! I have always love the Deals Wheels kits, and they are actually a little more work than one thinks if you want them to look good. Only problem is your boards are suppose to go inside the racks.....

Memory lane, how many remember?
RatRod replied to RatRod's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks to everyone who joined in with some excellent stories from days gone by, it's always fun, to go back in time, and remember where we've been, and what it was like when we were kids. It's funny, I can't remember where I just set my watch or wallet, but I never forget the past....lol. -
Monogram/Tom Daniel Rommel's Rod
RatRod replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, in the start of this Rommel's Rod reconstruction when Moebius Models was going to it, Tom had said that it would be a much nicer kit than before, and the skeletons would be corrected. When Revell took over, and reverse engineered the original kit, and only changing a few small things for the better. I'm kinda glad they kept these original skeletons, even if they are way wrong, it just adds to the coolness of having a 40 year old kit back again!!! -
Great save Al!!! It's always nice to see these old kits brought back to life. My Harley was started, and whatever kid did it back then used a tube of glue on the few parts that were assembled, but the kit was savable. Yes, I do plan to build the bike kits I have, and even though they are rare gems in their boxes, they just gotta be assembled!!!

Well my local Hobby shop got the Rommel's Rods in yesterday, and every single one was gone today!!! I bought the last two they had, and the other four sold this morning. Any indication if they would sell, I guess that has been answered. I'm sure the Tijuana Taxi, and Circus Wagon will sell just as fast, and I will buy as many as I can afford!!! Hell, I might even have to skip a few meals (which won't hurt anything!!!) Bring back as many vintage kits as can be made!!! I myself would welcome back dating some kits to their originality, like the Little T, Little Deuce, Blue Beetle, Etc.

Memory lane, how many remember?
RatRod replied to RatRod's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW!!! Thanks for so many great memories!!! This was fun, and thanks Art for such a great story. In my small town in Oregon, we had stores like Woolworths, the 88 cent store, and Payless drug. They all had a great selection of models too, but Payless had an isle that was 25 feet long, and had kits stacked higher than I could reach. My parents always knew where I was at when we went there. They had so many models that it was so dang hard to pick just one, and those big scale kits were a whopping 3 bucks, so no way was I gonna even ask. I never had a paper route, but I did odd jobs, and mowed more lawns then I care to remember, and taking back all the household pop bottles was always a good way to make some cash. Going for a drive out of town was always an exciting adventure too, as back then models were everywhere, and who knew, maybe you'd find that one model you seen in an add that wasn't in your town yet!!! I know things have changed over the years, but it sure is good to go back, and reminisce about how simple things were back then. -
With so many members here, and ranging in all ages, just how many here remember nickel Cokes, penny candy, PF Flyers, and when you could walk into a hobby shop, corner dept. store, or local drug store, and pick up a new kit, for this, or less? If you do remember, then you'll remember how hard it was to scrape together that much cash too. Ahhh, the good ol' days.....lol, well....

Another great build!!! Can't wait for the reissue of this one!!
-
Great build of an extremely rare kit!!! Yep, I would love to see this resurface too.
-
Man, this is a beauty Jeff!!! Love that engine, and your body mods & paint work are top notch as always!!!
-
Yep Al, I went after every Triumph kit Revell did from 1964 on, and ended up with every one. The stretched frame Triumph drag bike is from 1972, and is probably the rarest one. Once in a great while you see one pop up, but they go high, I paid three bills for this one.....ouch!!!
-
Great restoration Al!!! I love these old Revell drag bike kits, they really bring back memories. I have 'em all except the Kawasaki 500 triple. Maybe you can make new front forks out of aluminum!!!

Monogram/Tom Daniel Rommel's Rod

OK guys......pics, we need pics!!! You guys are killing us less fortunate people!!!! Please charge your camera batteries, and shoot 'em, and post 'em......Golly Geeee. -
OK, I confess, I love show rods, always have!!! I to grew up when all these crazy, wacky kits were the rage. These two kits are two of the most sought after TD kits ever, and with the collector prices on eBay going through the roof over the past few years I'm glad to finally be able to add these to my collection!!! It's really great to see Revell jump in with these reissues along with round 2's "Show Rod Revival"!!! These kit's aren't for everybody, and the manufactures know it, thus they have subjects for everyone, and I'm stoked that us show rodders are getting our niche filled now too!!!

Everything on the engine of this 1/8 scale Triumph were done with Testors metalizers from spray cans, some buffed, others not. Nothing was sealed as it does change the effect. It does rub off a little, but careful handling will give great results!!! Good luck....

I'm a big fan of Dupli-Color paint over Plastikote, but I only use Plastikote sandable primers. I think it's the Plastikote clear that I don't care for mainly. These were done using several coats of Dupli-Color black, and clear, then polished..... I also agree about the Tamiya lacquers, lately I've been using quite a bit of that stuff too with excellent results.

Here's one on eBay..... http://cgi.ebay.com/HOT-WHEELS-FERRARI-F35...id=p3286.c0.m14 Any color car would do, you really should strip the paint off the diecast first, remove all the mold seams, and prep the body, and repaint, that way all the paintwork matches.
