A very different concept Bob, and it works fine!!! I don't know how well it would go over in 1:1, but us modelers can do whatever we want.....
-
Thanks a bunch guys!!! All your comments mean a lot to an old fat bellied modeler..... Just so you all know, I DO build more than just bikes!!! but for now, I'm addicted to 'em!!! I have amassed a huge collection of Harley's, model kits in several scales, and diecast bikes too, so when these kits hit the shelves, I bought at least 60 of 'em..... So I have to build no less than 10 to justify that to my wife....lol You know!!! I have just started a new bike this afternoon, #9 (almost there) I'm also working with a resin caster in the next few months, I'm doing masters for some really cool stuff for these bike kits, and that's about all I can say for now....

Beautiful cars Curt!!! One can never have to many older sports cars!!!
-
I agree with Peter completely, your work is just spot on!! Thank you for sharing it.

I know, another one!!! Yes, another one is "Under Glass" This bike was done as a tutorial on....gulp....another forum I did it to show some tricks in modifying one of these kits. I used several ideas used by a custom bike shop not to far from where I live....Felony Flyers Hotrod Bikes in Seattle WA. This has got to be my most modified bike yet, and I think it looks pretty kool. The paint is HOK tangello pearl base, with HOK orange pearl fogged in on the edges, masked, and Duplicolor metallic black shot on. All comments welcome!! For anybody interested, here's the build up.... http://coffincorner.proboards89.com/index....read=1201024497

What Is It With Wives And Our Hobby!?!?
RatRod replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife (#4) is really into my hobby, with the exception of moving my collection, which we just did three months ago, and now it takes up a 36'X60' storage. She is my biggest critic, and has a lot of input on some of my builds. It wasn't always this way, but I got her started collecting bells awhile back, and now she has her own hobby too!! Along with an eBay account, a PayPal account, and a nice oak china cabinet to display her stuff. We support each other in our hobbies now, and it has helped her get a better understanding of what I do, and where I was coming from. Great fix..... -
Terry, I picked up three of these kits on ebay for around $70. Two of them had dulled chrome (both of these builds) and one has excellent chrome. Keep watching on there, they pop up all the time. Good luck!!!

Down right awesome Lyle!!! Did you let Norm cast the body before you painted it?
-
Thanks Matt, I seen that when I went back and looked.....Duh!!! Thanks for the #'s also, I sure wish Don would put pics on his website so you could see the parts!!!
-
Holy big fat cow!!! That is an awesome deuce!!! Actually, they are both beautiful!! Great use of the AMT '37 Chevy interior parts, they fit well. Are the tires and wheels Modelhaus? I gotta get me some!! One more time.......You did an awesome job!!!
-
Now there's some classics!!! I'm not much into Nascar anymore, but it's pretty cool to see some vintage race cars being reissued along with the awesome drag stuff!! Were these originally MPC kits? Oh, btw Dave, the paint on your builds is top notch!! Great stuff!!!
-
Very nice build Chris!!! I mean who doesn't love a nice Ferrari!!!
-
Wow!! That was quick Mike!! Another great old school build!!!
-
Thanks everyone!!! These were a fun break from detailed builds, and since all us old fat bellied model builders are always asking "I wonder what that would have looked like if I could build back then, like I build now?" I have one more of these kits, and the chrome is bright and shiny , and looks great, I want to do another custom version in candy red, but the 45 year old styrene hates modern lacquers.... Bob, I do have the instruction sheet, but after moving to Washington from Oregon recently, 99% of my stuff is in storage until I find a home to buy!! I wouldn't even know where to start looking, but if I do run across it, I will send it!!

This Is National Tudor Sedan Month, Isn't It?
RatRod replied to Lyle Willits's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Since I'm an "older" guy Lyle, I'll just say that is Kool with a capital K Great ideas, Ardun, grey paint, red steelies, and a chop.......That's just sick man!!! -
WOW!!! It's, well, perfect, excellent, fantastic!!! The color, and details are just amazing!!!
-
Part 2.....I posted this custom version before, but here it is again for all the newer members. Just a good clean simple build, no extra details, the box art custom.....

After seeing Johns awesome vintage deuce roadster, I figured I'd share a couple box art cars I did last year. This one is the drag version of AMT's Art Box series. After picking up several of these old kits on eBay, I wanted to build 'em nice, but no extra detail added, just built like they would have been done back in the 60's (if any of us could have built like this back then ) I had a heck of a time getting the 45 year old decals of the sheet, and they fish scaled even after I rinsed them off, and used a hot setting solution, but after looking at it awhile, it was the perfect look, so I shot two part clear on it. Looks like is had sat on a shelf the last 45 years!!! Here's the Lil Viky....

Even though we have Revells much better deuces nowadays, it's great to see a well built vintage AMT '32, and you did a superb job on this one!!! Great old memories from the past, now I think I'll post pics of mine!!! Again John, very nice job!!!
-
I never would have have thought about doing such a project, let alone tackle it. That is just fantastic in every aspect !!
-
Geeez, only 2"!!! We got 9", on top of a good 1/2" sheet of ice!!! BTW, nice 40!!!
-
It really has a different look with the wedge cut!! I came up with a color similar years ago using Testors 50's aqua & pearl clear, I'm amazed that the pearl clear toned the candy lime green down that much. Your decals look awesome too!!!
-
Not my cup-o-tea, but that is some amazing work Virgil!!! You have some fantastic talents showing throughout!!!!
-
Man, there have been some beautiful models posted here lately, and this is another one!!!! I can't believe the finish you got on this one using model enamels!!! I gave them up years ago in favor of automotive lacquers, but this is a stunning color you made for this baby!! I have several of these kits, now i guess I need to get busy and build one.
