One might be reminded of Ed Roths Rotar or the similar levitation machine from George Barris and the feud between the dueling aircars. I am assuming this AMT celebration of space dorkism is from the same time period?

What's the deal with Johan

havent various resin casters reproduced every johan body at least once? if not, why not? -
How did I get signed up for this?
jbwelda replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
most likely you will go out and wake up in the next room. its not much trauma at that point. then you gotta let it heal and take care of your jaw and mouth for a while. but its worth it because they will just rot away and cause you a bunch of pain one day...so a little now vs a lot then. you will be eating ice cream for a week or so, which isnt all bad. -
i dont think the guy needs much advice, looks to me like hes got it covered except maybe a bit more driving skill, he gets out of control in both those vids and has to back off. that that pile is certainly pretty impressive if you ask me. not something you would expect and the voices in the crowd seem to echo that...sweet vids!

Revell/Gearz Contest - Official Thread
jbwelda replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
could you post some pics of your cars that won? that would be kool to see the model. when you respond to them, you might mention if you have 2 specific kits in mind you somehow "need" and they might just do it. good luck and congrats on the contest! -
question - New revell plastic issues
jbwelda replied to mademan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
fat brian, you and me think alike...thats EXACTLY what i was going to say. try tamiya paints, especially their primers. yes they are expensive. so is therapy. -
well i built it as a kid, dont remember much about it but i do know i built multiple copies of the fiat and kitbashed it a lot, often with the revell parts pack and fiat body. as i recall i never had any problems, it fit together nicely, at least for a kid. i do not know about the current reissue but i would imagine its the same except for a couple re-engineered parts (tires, windows) and probably has more flash than the original did. sorry if that didnt help much!

never too late and like everyone else has chimed in, paint is probably going to be your biggest most longest lasting obstacle. it really is magic mixed with luck and some days you got it and some days you dont. and thats for pretty much great painters, us mere mortals have to learn to live with less or plan on redoing them more than once in a while if we remain picky about it. and you also learn your environment and local weather conditions can really be a factor you cant do anything about other than wait for better conditions. course, you being in LA youre pretty lucky on that score but plenty of us have a lot worse to deal with and moisture in the air will be sure to ruin a paint job, not to mention winds blowing dust around etc. we in cali have it good.

R&R Vacumn Craft El Matador...Donor kit?
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
thanks rick, thats sort of what i was thinking since the revell 40 ford wasnt around when this resin body was developed, i would guess anyway. are you the guy who built the one i saw recently, must have been in the NNL East coverage in this months model cars mag? -
excellent and totally dig the weathering!

where did the original valiant body come from? an old johan kit maybe? should be sweet; i really love rodded station wagons.

Aluminum Willys Coupe: finished pictures posted 8/2/12
jbwelda replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
i had not seen this before...awesome! i love all those drilled panels! that polished flame look is gonna be a show stopper too if it comes off right! -
i just picked up an R&R Vacumn Craft resin body kit for the klassik kustom El Matador coupe. I am not sure what kit to use as a base kit. what i bought includes body with separate hood and interior bucket and pieces. i was thinking maybe an AMT 40 Ford if i can find one (whats the latest reissue of it?) or maybe the Revell 40 Ford that is just being reissued as i understand it. i have always loved this kustom and cant wait to get into it!

Revell Germany Ferrari SA Aperta & 599 GTO
jbwelda replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
i really wish someone would concentrate more on mid 60s ferraris with full detail especially under the hood. now that would be something worth celebrating. so many great designs... -
hey guess what...it costs about 8$ to ship from california to anywhere in canada. i am pretty sure it doesnt cost much more than that from anywhere in the usa. this is first class, no tracking, no airmail, no fringes, just delivery. so if the guy is charging more than about 12$ including a new box and packing material, he is totally ripping you off. ebay is fairly sympathetic to such things these days. tell him you will pay actual postage for first class or you will report him for gouging on shipping...and if he doesnt dont bother with that just move on. thats my advice from long time buying and selling... i hate people who try to make the shipping a profit center.

Tastes change ...... ?
jbwelda replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I started out building mostly imports and classic brit cars but now am more or less into hot rods or at least derivatives of them. thing is, i like to vary my interests even if they center around one style mostly. -
alright, happy to report i am putting this one to bed! was fun and no real complications i didnt introduce myself, i might want to build another and cement the fairing shell together because mine doesnt fit that great but i just created distractions to take ones eye off it! kool little kit and here it is with the original ford pickup and box: the split in the fairing matches the split in the go kart shell! remember though this was a replicas and miniatures of maryland recreation of the bike. worth every penny of the mid 30s i paid for it and like everything else from them haile recommended! now i am thinking about building the revell parts pack honda for ed roth to drive around on when his surfite is just too much vehicle!

Revell 2012 Fall New Releases Announced
jbwelda replied to TurboKitty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
july does look kinda bleak but there is that chevy truck with the snowplow. pretty interesting stuff there...is this new? (apologies if that detail is covered earlier in this thread, i just plead laziness...) -
just got mine today and the cover aint torn! yah! havent gotten into it yet but did read with interest the two how-tos (great features by the way, the scratchbashing one i mean), the drilled steering wheel build and the scratchbuilt headers. great features and showed me how to do a couple things i might want to do! excellent issue so far!
