  1. im with you on that dave. i would black out the spokes of the fuchs wheels myself.
  2. if your dremel is flinging hot plastic then you are running it too fast. personally i use the "mighty mite" cordless one even though i have a full featured variable speed plug in one. the cordless one doesnt really have enough power to melt plastic which is exactly what i want. and its pretty harmless too...ive jabbed my finger with a rotating grinder bit and it didnt even break the skin. now that nasty looking circular saw thing...watch out! but i do always wear eye protection when i use it...i have seen stuff get flung across the room even with the low power one on slow speed. i find it most helpful during final assembly when the part you swore fit the hundred times you test fitted it somehow doesnt fit. its great for a little localized grinding in spots it would be near impossible to get a file or sanding stick into.
  3. >they're always running off the track and i was always running into 1:1 scale trees too...until i learned how to drive! personally i prefer road race courses to those flat out courses...i rarely use the 1/32 scale cars at full throttle except on the short straightaways we have on our group track...to me that makes it more realistic unless youre talking about nascar and that particular form of racing has always puzzled me, big straights and left hand turns: gets pretty boring pretty quick. so i guess maybe we have different expectations which is ok. i gear all my cars down for rapid acceleration but not top speed. i would have to regear them for running on a commercial track but again i prefer sears point/laguna seca style layouts myself. ps: we use the "four wheels off course" rule when we race...that is, if you go off the track during a race you just lost. it keeps the speeds realistic and forces you to learn to control your vehicle which isnt hard with strong magnets but did i forget to mention we usually dont use magnets?
  4. bob why do you say they are more fun than 1/32 scale?
  5. i did a quick google but didnt come up with anything, i need to be able to order up some stuff from rmm for an upcoming project and would like to be able to do so over the web. do they have a website or is there a dealer out there who does and can direct order from them? my problem is i need some flathead speed equipment for a club project and i need it fairly quick... on another issue...in case rmm doesnt have them are there some decent ardun heads in an easily sourced kit or would anyone have a set they would like to donate to a car being built to give away at the 07 NNL in sunnyvale? many thanks in advance...
  6. i dont but i do have a friend with a large HO layout in his garage. they are too small for my own tastes and its difficult to get a car to look realistic but they are still THE THING for some folks.
  7. looks like hes doing what hes signing: hang loose brah!
  8. >I must ask, why resin? It seems there is so much in plastic. Are there >any advantages with resin? the advantage of resin is that it is easy to make only a few copies without having to invest millions of dollars (literally) in injection molding equipment that is required to make plastic parts...or at least injection molded plastic parts. resin can be used for 1 to a fair number of copies with little other than the original part and a rubber mold to cast into with possibly some centrifuge like equipment to get rid of bubbles etc. thats why most garage manufacturers use resin i believe
  9. just an update...i scrapped the wooden panels i built earlier because they didnt really fit that well and im trying again. i got jairus to agree to think about painting the grafix so im hot to get it done now...but at the rate i work i will probably have it done by jan 1 at the earliest!
  10. wow very cool. i love the way youve detailed the undercarriage too.
  11. i especially love that roots rack you got going on there. looks straight off the hawaiian beach.
  12. the pics seem to have returned! im actually not done yet...last night i added half-rolled down windows to both sides and now im detailing the wheels a bit more. it never stops.
  13. dont mean to be a bother but if youre in the sacramento area be sure to attend and enter the model car contest and show at cal expo this weekend!
  14. well i used the hosting feature offered here on the board. worked good for a day but now it seems the site is kaput or something. any idea whats up gregg? i could put them to image shack...i think thats the service i usually use. yeah believe me it was difficult making that little mr-s look like a red "x". turned out pretty nice though dont you think?
  15. future floor wax to the rescue! works better than any other thing ive tried, all combined.
  16. heres some pics:
  17. i got somewhat the same reaction when i brought some fairly well modified vintage dinky toys to a model show one time. i had lowered and painted a 50s land speed record car and done some metal crafting and shaping on it as well as removing seam lines etc. no one seemed to appreciate it much. oh well, it looks good on the shelf. some folks got small minds i guess. its one thing to try and get over with a stock diecast but if you ask me it becomes modelling when you start applying your imagination and modify it in a meaningful way. some dont seem to love slot cars either, even when youve taken pains to create realistic ones with some amount of detailing.
  18. you could count me in on one of those esp if its engineered to fit the tamiya kit! and then do a THING!
  19. im pretty sure my local hobby shop has some resin skull shift knobs from an aftermarket firm...im currently afflicted by CRAFT syndrome though and cant remember the firms name. model car garage maybe? one love jah bill
  20. may be one of the biggest abominations ever but you did a very good job of dealing with it! looks like the right front wheel is catching some air but that may just be the uneven pavement and the lack of foresight on the part of the builder to not make the suspension fully functional! just skidding of course, great looking build...i would have guessed it to be the tamiya lotus 25!

  22. >Gilbertsville is so nice this time of year! if its so nice then why would anyone want to be inside? it would be better if it was cold and wet outside.
  23. yes those kits are kind of a joke and very expensive to boot. i bought one that had surf motif on the box art but got disappointed when i saw what was inside. i was going to use the fujimi enthusiasts 356 quad cam motor and the wheels and tires from there as well. probably get to this one of these days. it was going to be a sister project to a couple others i have planned: a tamiya karmann ghia that i am going to transplant a mazda rx7 twin turbo rotary motor into and a similar project but with again a quad cam motor (i picked up about 6 of those testors repacks of the fuimi 356 one time real cheap so i have an endless supply of porsche parts) and an abarth porsche resin body i got from scalekraft a few years back. should make a nice trio. one love jah bill
  24. hey louis when you build that track be sure to post here. i will come all the way out from cali just to race you! oh and yeah fly etc cars are nice but theres nothing like building up vintage ones. and you soon get tired of the magnet business and want to build and race cars that require skill to drive...but i have to admit a fondness for occasionally throwing a mega magnet monster on the track and letting it go all out! ps: when you build that track be sure to include lots of right *and* left turns, and some decreasing radius ones (using inside and outside curves)! one love jah bill
