  1. i love the color combo, really stands out from the crowd! that nostalgia rear tonneau is muy cool too.
  2. thats an inspiration, ive been wanting to build a chevy II gasser for a while now! i could only hope for it to turn out so well!
  3. clean!
  4. ive found its hard to go wrong with tamiya paint, right out of the can. oh what a feeling. great stuff there!
  5. ps: no offense bob, im sure it will be awesome and in the 1:1 world it would sure surprise a lot of people at the bugarama!
  6. i mostly chose this motor for its looks and the fact you dont see them every day (or at least i dont)...but am i wrong in assuming they basically couldnt get out of their own way? thats a big chunk of boat anchor there, isnt it?
  7. how about one of those zinger kind of kids toys that make sparks? you might have to press a trigger to make it work though. or maybe hook up some kind of electric motor to press the trigger for you. would be a neat effect if you could do it.
  8. thanks for the compliments folks! antonio did you ever look at hobby link japan? if i remember right thats where i got the garage defend kit, maybe they still have them in stock.
  9. sounds to me like you messed up a perfectly cool build there bob...but im a purist. much better if you scratched up a porsche quad cam motor. but carry on; im in the minority im sure and im sure it will be awesome anyhow! i have on the boards a tamiya ghia that im putting a twin turbo rotary from an rx7, so who am i to criticize? on the other hand a friend of mine has a 62 ghia with an rx7 rotary sans the turbochargers that has run like a bat outta you know where for 15 years now.
  10. well carsntrucks4u (your name is michael? i will assume), what you say about figures is true though in my case while i do dull coat them i usually see them as not the focal point but instead sort of like a mannequin, to stand in for a real person. i usually dont really detail my figures but instead do just a little detailing and leave the rest to the imagination...for instance i typically dont put in extensive facial features, just suggestions of them. i enjoy building cars not people but when the situation calls for people (race cars on the track and other dioramas like that) i think you cannnot avoid making them look at least a little realistic. but i think you would probably laugh at my attempts to detail them! anyway later this evening i might shoot the diorama i was mentioning and post some pics so you will see what i mean about my "technique", if you want to be charitable enough to call it that! again, way cool citroen and display there...i just wish i could do as well.
  11. Heres some photos of one of my lastest completions, along with a similar car i finished up some years ago. First the most current, a Nissan Silvia S-15 by Fujimi. I have to apologize for the photos, I've painted it a very dark very deep blue and i am having problems lighting it evenly. It sits pretty low to the ground, but I actually kept it off a bit more to give it a real life appearance and kept the stance fairly parallel to the ground vs the raked attitude of the Skyline companion. The wheels are XS Tuning things I believe. Thats a big metal wing hanging off the back, came as part of the "Garage Defend" kit and is actually pretty cool looking even to one who typically think those things are funny. The body kit looks pretty wild but was a real pain to make look good; theres a lot of filling there that you dont see. and finally a peek in the window at the dash and steering wheel Then we have the Nissan Skyline that i completed a couple years ago. It is painted in flip flop purple/blue/maroonpaint buried in clear, the photos dont really capture that too well but its pretty impressive in good light. The wheels and tires are from the Copperhead and this one has been slammed to the ground in the front while its actually higher in the back than the Silvia. The interior is a very understated leopard skin using decals from Scale Motorsport. To get the front so low I had to pie-cut the interior and then basically channel the front of the body over the frame. Both cars feature detailed undercarriage and even though they are both curbside, the engine detailing looks very nice underneath. All lowering is done in a realistic manner, I didnt just cut the tires off on top and glue them to the fender wells or anything. The photos of the Silvia are pretty bad, I think I will set up another lighting arrangement and try again later this week.
  12. yes those type 3 ghias are very nice. deluxe interiors with porsche 356 seats etc unless my memory has deserted me. corgi made a very nice one in approx 1/43 which is often available for an affordable price on ebay in mint with box condition. i think i also have a resin body in 1/25 from that guy in south africa along with an abarth 356, austin countryman or traveller or whatever it was, speedwell (?) mini cooper fastback and a few more. too bad that guy went out of business (so ive heard)
  13. i think its a revell/pittman rp77 but dont know for sure. it was with the (utterly destroyed) car when i got it. heres a kinda fuzzy shot of the chassis note the ball bearings on all four axle contact surfaces. it runs very smooth even if the rpms arent what you would get from a can motor.
  14. >tha Cunningham is an All-American design thats what i meant: new england. thats my story and im sticking to it!
  15. i was going to guess a cooper with a custom nose (or at least one im not familar with) or an elva. birdcage? bring it on!!! ive been hoping that tamiya would do one but i am admittedly dreaming.
  16. so since it seems like theres some interest in home built, realistic 1/32 scale slot cars heres some more pics of cars ive built up in the past couple years: first off, an allard (i forget the exact designation, J2X maybe?). this was a resin kit that fit over a heavily modified scaletrix lotus seven chassis. roughest part of this one was mounting front fenders to be strong enough to take a crash or two but still look elegant like the real ones: then theres this clear plastic bodied cooper in more like 1/25 scale, on a brass chassis thats been fairly heavily modified, with pittman motor:
  17. i think i have a 1/32 cunningham in resin somewhere yet to build. maybe i will dig it out and take a photo one of these days. so im glad theres some interest in slots here still; i had kinda given up the ghost plus me and my buddy took down our track so there hasnt been much motivation for me to do any for awhile. but as mentioned the 'cage has come some way since those pics, heres some more recent ones. still need to pick and mount some wheels and i need to perform surgery on a pilot figure one of these days. completely off topic but i picked up one of those CMC birdcage 1/18 diecasts, man what a piece of engineering that is. its as complex as the real thing, i swear!
  18. an allard is one bad a$$ vehicle...they came with a variety of powerplants and maybe even ardun converted flatheads. more typical was the cadillac and chrysler hemi powered ones. someone (art?) will probably correct me on that if im incorrect but ive known a couple allard owners; one caddy powered and one flathead powered. i built up a nice allard 1/32 scale slot car that resembles those photos quite a bit. will post pics in the slot car area later hopefully
  19. second one appears to be a cunningham, out of the uk. i believe there are several sources for resin bodies though they may not be made anymore. that first one...i believe ive seen it before but cannot recall where, petersen museum in LA maybe?
  20. i need to photo and post some other things here soon so i will do this one as well. truth be told im not sure much difference will be apparent but i will let the viewers be the judge of that.
  21. very cool, i like the driver too. its a real pain sometimes to get them to look real and in a realistic position. i made a diorama with three microcars (from memory, a honda s800, a subaru s600 and a toyota s800) on a racetrack so of course they needed drivers. i felt like a mad doctor performing surgery on those poor guys, but in the end they all fit well and looked good. im not sure but i think a couple of those cars ended up in model car mag from NNL west 04 or 05 but you cant really see the interiors in the photos.
  22. jairus im your man if you want to split that million $ a year salary with me. but hey dont worry about it...everyone makes mistakes. and i must not have gotten the most recent issue yet because i havent a clue what youre on about. but that never stopped me from responding before...
  23. bump for zebm1 this has come a lot further but i havent taken or posted any photos lately
  24. >Maserati 161 (Birdcage) bodies around see my post elsewhere of a typo 61 birdcage body that i rescued from the dumpster and restored. at the time i didnt know the manufacturer but then one appeared on ebay MOC. i bid on it but got outbid...dont recall seeing one since. russkit did one in their superleggera (sp?) series but its pretty basic without any tubular superstructure.
  25. >and Modelmartin aka Andy, any chance yu'll ever do a birdcage maser >again? X 10!!!
